It was honest. You're a young star. Loads of pressure on you to perform and sell the sport and breathe new life into the Oilers franchise etc. And you score that goal. You're probably gonna lose yourself for a few seconds. We watch hockey for the entertainment, the drama. The escape. The excitement. The rush. That's what this is. And that's why it is, IMHO, fine.

Point taken, though I'm not sure it's really fair to compare the two. Franzen's been pissing us off for some time now. Brunner's a blast of crisp, clean air-conditioning. What I'm trying to say is, f*** Brunner.

No, at the time as well. Franzen was still a question mark at that point in time. A Very Sexy question mark? Sure. But a question mark nonetheless.

I was going to mention Hull, actually. Brunner's a sniper-ish goal-scorer; I don't think he should be expected to do a whole ton of work in the rough areas. Certainly not at this time, given his frame and his sheer lack of experience with the crash-bang-muck of the NHL. He was brought here to do one thing, and he's doing it. Anything more this season (e.g. say he becomes, I dunno, a reliable two-way player) would be a pleasantly surprising bonus.

We're always complaining the NHL is too boring. Stuff like this sexes it up, adds some drama, flair, theatricality. Do I want to see him do this after every goal he scores?
