Franzen should have been at Tae Bo class during the lockout

I'm going for an and-now-it-has-come-back-to-haunt-him kinda thing. -
We'll make the playoffs. And then lose in the first or second round. Again.

Because everything a person says to and in the media is wholly true. (Sorry, not trying to be a ****** bag. Just saying.) He probably does indeed want to stay with the Habs...but I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that he might be considering a move. That there might be more to this than meets the eye. Again, though, who knows for sure.

Maybe he wants out of Montreal. I get that he grew up on the Habs, but, well, who knows. What I do know is I feel comfortable calling him a kid, which is weird for me because I'm but a wee 26. I think it reflects the good and bad of this package. On the good side, the kid is only 23 years old, and already he has established that he most definitely has the skills to pay the proverbial bills, and this on a shoddy team (2010-11: 14 goals and 24 assists in 17 regular season games with the Habs, 2011-12: helped lead the Habs to the ECF). On the decidedly bad side, the kid does seem to have some "issues." But he's 23. And he's not a Wing. Being a Wing has a way of humbling players and bringing out the best in them. Is he exactly what we really, truly need on D right now? Not quite, no. But, beggars and choosers and all that. And he does have some great things to offer, no doubt it.

Former Red Wing Marian Hossa scored his NHL-leading fifth goal on a power play 1:41 into overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 comeback victory over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night. -
To get this thread back on-topic...

1. Actually, the answer might be Samuelsson or Bertuzzi. I really don't care enough to check the facts (no offense intended, of course). 2. All of these guys (and many others) came from outside, not from within: Bertuzzi Calder Chelios Coffey Corazzini Cullen Drake Draper Duchesne Ference Fetisov Hartigan Hasek Hatcher Hossa Hull Joseph Larionov Maltby Murphy Olausson Rafalski Ranford Robitaille Samuelsson, M. Samuelsson, U. Shanahan Stafford Thomas

If we're not "historically" big on acquisitions (granted, we haven't really been for a few couple seasons now), I'm not sure what team is. I guess we could agree on the tired line about the salary cap era - that you just can't do it ("build from without"). EDIT: To answer your question: Hossa, I think.

I'd rather have Subban than Lashoff. Now, granted, it'd take more than Lashoff to land Subban via trade. But if it came down to "Throw Lashoff in and you've got yourself a deal," I'd pull that trigger. Lashoff has been good. I don't think he projects all that high, though. He's here as a necessity; it's not that he was so strong in GR that Holland had no choice but to promote him to the big club.

One clean hook from Johan Franzen would cripple Thor himself. With great power comes great responsibility. -

I grow weary of this "He's our leading scorer!" line. The guy's good for 20-25-ish regular season goals. Which is nice...except, that's it. He plays like an old Brett Hull, minus what made Hull elite even in the latter stage of his career. He is breathtakingly inconsistent; he can disappear for weeks, or maybe (just maybe) he'll carry the team on his back for a couple postseason rounds (if he feels like it, and as long as the opposing teams aren't especially tough or imposing). He's not especially physical. He's not great defensively. He doesn't intimidate anyone. He's got great speed, but rarely gets going, so you'd be excused for thinking he's 40 years old. He has the tools to be an absolute force in this league, but he doesn't seem to have the head or heart, doesn't seem terribly into the requisite work, commitment, dedication, effort, etc. And what has he done in the playoffs the past couple of seasons? Sorry, but, being a Red Wings fan, I've learned that regular season success can be incredibly misleading. etc. -
I know what MO stands for, I'm challenging the idea you're putting forward. This "dynasty" of the past couple decades or so has most definitely lurved teh free agents and trades. It's why Hollland is beating the we-can't-do-that-anymore;-we-have-to-build-from-within-now drum.

"Hi, guys. I'm Doug." "Hi, Doug." "There was a time when I had a pretty good thing going. But then I wouldn't trade Filapoola. Before I knew it, I was on a real tough road, a downward spiral. Spent two years fighting, scraping just to get into the playoffs. Oh, sure, I had my moments, but..."
