I think one of the major knocks against the non-elite "senior Wings" (Cleary, Bertuzzi, Samuelsson) is that we know what we're getting from them. There's really no chance of any of them knocking anybody's socks off with an incredible season, not at this point in their respective careers. There is, on the other hand, a not-entirely-insignificant chance that one or two or all three of them might, well, kinda suck. Holland likes familiar, likes "we know what we're getting from them." And that's not so insane. But there is, I think, something to be said for fresh, young, eager talent, with all its possibility and potential, and stuff.

January 22 = National holiday for NHL goalies

0-15 across three games. Our first three power plays against the Stars generated a cumulative total of one shot on goal. The corresponding Stars penalty kills? Four shots on goal.

I'd feel a lot better if this roster were really great on paper, as that would make our performances thus far truly WTF-ish. As it is, though, you tend to get what you ice, and, IMHO, we're icing a very shaky roster. So, it's not that surprising that we suck. But, alas, all we can do is wait and see how things unfold. Hear's to that, I guess.

Same story if he gets hurt. How scary is that? -
We must find this "penalties" character and kill him.

On a more serious note the Sharks are beating the Oil 6-1 after the 1s

I really dislike the Sharks' fruity jerseys. Just saying. -
They looked very good in the second. I missed the first. They had a complete and utter meltdown in the latter half. Datsyuk pulled them out of the fire and they halfway regained their composure. They went, what, 0-6 on the PP? I know, I'm just being Mr. Negative now, but...not a whole lote to be satisfied with, IMHO. And anyway, satisfaction is death in this context. It is the ultimate no-no. Do you suppose Babs is ever truly satisfied? nevar.

No one is asking this of him. Holland is a genius. He figures these things out. That's what he does. (Unless it all was, in fact, Bowman et al.) Lately, he's not figuring them out. Lately, he's just acting like a blockhead. (I realize how juvenile and uninformed that sounds. But it's true. Just look at our blue line - injuries and all.) I think he quite likes the "Parity!" card. It's like a get-out-of-jail dealy. If I were him, I'd probably just want to make my millions and do as little real solid progressive, constructive, shrewd, intelligent work as possible. OK, I'm being too hard on him, because I'm tired and in pain. But hopefully someone who doesn't already catchy my drift is catching my drift. Which is, The guy is gold. Probably a bona fide genius. So why is he pretending to suck so very much? -

"Every other Holland critic"? Really, Buppy? I expect better from you. Look, we're all making this way more complicated than it needs to be, than it is. I'll say it again: you lose Rafalski, Stuart, Lidstrom, you, at the very least, bring in a heavy. No way should Kronwall - Ericsson/Quincey/White/Smith/Huskins/Lashoff be our first pairing. Common sense, really. Why is it so hard to swallow/understand? So many of us treat Holland as if he's utterly infallible, incapable of being in the wrong. "He mades a mistake? He dropped the ball? No, you're just a Holland critic. You're just spoiled." It's just as silly as The Holland Bashing. Ken Holland is the best GM in the league. But the way he's handled our D corps (and, arguably, the team at large) lately borders, I think, on braindead. It's almost as if he really does want that first overall pick. I have no other explanation for the sheer lack of those trademark Ken Holland Smarts (see, e.g., "Lets save money and sit on it, and then do it again next season, and then do it again! OH NO, NOW WE'RE IN TROUBLE! SALO! CARLE! SUTER! HEY, Y'KNOW WHAT'S GREAT? BUILDING FROM WITHIN!) It's weird. Really, really weird. (To which someone will say, "No, it's called parity/not having Nick Lidstrom/transition etc., and I need to adjust my expectations and reconcile them with Reality." To which I preemptively say: I know you, are but what am I?) -

Big effing NO to Scott Gomez. He is the very last thing this club needs.

One thing we excel at: getting hurt. Often in ridiculous, highly original ways.

I think it's more that we just suck. Immensely. And need a trade. Or several thousand. Badly.

Gold. You can hear me yell it when I streak down the ice if you're sitting close enough. -
I'd assumed Jagr was on the top of Holland's wish list. Pleasantly surprised to find he wasn't. Nothing against Jagr, mind you. Just not really what we need. (Or maybe he is? Seems to have retained some of his scoring touch.)

Not an unimportant point right there. We shat the bed against Nashville even with Lidstrom and the generally solid, dependable Stuart. All the more reason to "overprepare" and lasso an all-star and a solid, dependable #3-ish type. Instead of, like, counting on Ericsson to be a beastly #2. -
I want a Brunner hat trick.
