Funny thing is, I like Semin. I actually have a soft spot for guys who are only in it for goals. My problem is, like Rivalred said above, he's more of the same - and we're talking about a team that just s*** the bed because it is so one-dimensional, so samey. If we had our s*** together on D (on the blue line and team-wise), I'd be more for it. If our forecheck was big and fast and nasty and Built Ford Tough, I'd be more for it. If Semin were only one of maybe two lazy, floating, non-physical guys in our forward corps., I'd be more for it. I keep bringing this up, but, seriously - what are we going to do when we run up against a team like the Preds again in the postseason, and they beat us down, grind us out, throw up the lockdown D, box us out in their zone? Is Alexander Semin just magically going to be the one who breaks through the box and crashes the crease and mucks and bangs in the corners and changes the complexion of the series? I don't think so. Give me Bobby Ryan and Shane Doan, then we can sign Semin. Maybe.

Soft, lazy, underachieving, bloated sense of self-worth, all offense, ultra-streaky....
-
Remember - having Ryan would, I have to think, only help our chances re: landing Perry and/or Getzlaff. Imagine a top-6 with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Ryan, Getzlaff/Perry, and Doan. [/supremecreamdream]

With cap space to clear, do Flyers become a Wings trade partner?
Dabura replied to Yzerfan1999's topic in General
Oh, he's plenty dirty. But, honestly, that's a huge part of his appeal (if he's on your team, and/or you can be objective about him). The Flyers are my hometown team. I've hated them - or, at least, their fans - with a passion for most of my life. But this roster is something else, something pretty special, I think. Briere, Hartnell, Giroux, Couturier - so much firepower. And now their biggest shortcoming (all things D) looks like it'll be getting a shot in the arm in the form of Shae Weber, a.k.a. arguably the best defenseman in the league. I think that qualifies as sick. I. Want. Now. -
So wait, is he officially a Flyer?

A lot of people seem to think so. And, I dunno, maybe it's just this headache I've had all day, but...I feel sick about it.

Yes, all we need is a defenseman. Doesn't even have to be top-4 material, just some "depth" is all. Right.

Shhhh, you're being realistic. Re: GMR, I'm reminded of that scene in Breaking Bad. "JUST GROW SOME F****** BALLS!!!"

Maybe Holland's goal for this summer was to see the Preds fall, and aid in any way he could. Then, hey, we don't have to improve so much, because the guys that just beat us have lost their top D pairing (arguably the best in the league), and one of their toughest players, and those two Russians. So we'll probably finish first in the division, which is all we really care about anyway. HOO-RAYYY!

The answer is Dan Girardi.

I like our team. The offseason is still very young, and we have a lot of options.

On top of all that's been said about him, I'll add that he's also not afraid to challenge his teammates to do better (or "call them out," if you like). But we're not getting him. Or Giroux (cream-filled-pipe dream). Or anyone good. Or anyone, prolly. -
Yeah, we were gonna sign Weber.
