If Nick returns and if we get Suter, we've basically just upgraded Stuart to Suter. Which is great. But yeah, I admit those are two big ifs.

How about Parise, Perry, Suter? What would it take to get Perry? EDIT: Flip and Nyquist come to mind first. Franzen's not entirely unmovable. Abdelkaber, Miller, Emmerton, Eaves.... (I kind of like our D, assuming we get Suter and Nick returns.)

I went to Stanford. Caught a few Sharks games while I was there. Lived among The Enemy, learned its ways, enjoyed its women. They seemed alright to me. Actually, I had some good times at those games. But then, I'm 6'4 and I know how to handle myself, and I've been told I can look really pissy. I guess what I'm saying is - next time you catch s***, you should kick their asses. I just feel "he needed to motivate better" is reaching. Whereas, re: Holland, this team wasn't built for a deep run, and, re: the players themselves...well, they just sucked.

I don't think he's covering his ass. If anything, I think he covered other people's asses this season, and more than a few times (see, e.g., blaming himself and the coaching staff). Holland fielded a deficient roster. That roster, those guys, sucked in the postseason. Babs is the last one anyone should be blaming, IMO. "Yeah but he should've adjusted lines and, and--" Come on. The way these guys were playing....
