What are you on about? I don't agree with the statement, "The Wings don't deserve to win the Cup because of this game." I think it's inane on a number of levels, and hurting its credence even more is the fact that it's coming from GMR. After a loss. Wings don't deserve to win the Cup. Right. Sure. Swell.

Pens played like their season was on the line. In the Igloo. With only two penalties called against them. I'll take a 2-1 loss and a Game 7 in Motown.

I'm surprised so many people are upset about this period. To echo my own thoughts, this kind of opening is nothing new. We all know the Wings almost always sit back in the first and let the opposition gas themselves. The key has always been doing this and escaping with a tied score, or, ideally, a lead. If they can do that, they usually crank it up in the second.

Agreed. This is how it usually goes with the Wings. Weather the onslaught, slowly seize control of the play. We've more or less just seen the best of the Pens.

Truth. Take away all the hoopla, fanfare, and cultural underpinnings and you've got a damn boring sport. Same thing with American football, really.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not hating. Just found it interesting because their playing styles are so different.

It's unbelievably difficult to establish a "relentless, smothering forecheck" against this Wings team, which is why you almost never see it happen. The one exception is the Anaheim Ducks. That's the game they play, and they have the personnel to do it. That's not the Pens game, though. Maybe against the lowly Caps, but not against the Wings.

How do you get that from Shero saying, "He says we look to be his first choice"? For all we know, Hossa didn't even say that and Shero was just playing the good ole public relations game. You really need to get over it.

Easy to do against the Capitals, impossible to do against the Wings unless you're the Anaheim Ducks.

I see a lot of people making this point. And it's true enough. But I doubt the Powers That Be go that far in their thinking. What Malkin has done matters more than what he would've/wouldn't have done had ____ happened.
