When Pavel Met Evgeni--The turning point of the series
Dabura replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Stopped reading after this. If you're going to cover a sport, know something about it. Journalism 101. -
The Philadelphia Flyers. All we can do is laugh.

Words that need to be banned from Hockey Vocabulary

"Waffleboarded." EDIT: Ha, beaten to the punch! -
Not such a ridiculous idea, really. In terms of marketing, I'm sure the Powers That Be don't want to see Malkin and Crosby walk away empty-handed from two straight SCF series. As for actual merit, the guy basically is the Penguins right now. Sid has been suffocated; he's no chance of winning it. But Malkin has been a threat at times. Not that I think being "a threat at times" warrants a Conn Smythe, especially if the Wings win. But it's not like the idea has nothing to it.

Any Chance Tavares Replaces Crosby as the New NHL Poster Boy?
Dabura replied to Probie's topic in General
A player doesn't have to be Crosby in order to help sell the sport. And believe me, Avery has helped sell the sport. You're being obstinate, friend. I know you enjoy putting "haters" in their place, but your argument here is just completely illogical -- and on two levels. First, you're denying that there's a link between the way in which an athlete conducts himself on the playing field and the way the markets his sport (and the way the sport markets him). Second, you're accepting the good but denying the bad -- i.e., "Just look at him. He's so marketable. Oh man, look at that sick move he just made. What talent! Whoa, he just chopped Hank's leg. Wait, what's that? You don't like that he did that? Well, that's not relevant. Get over it. Oh man, look at that sick skill!" Which has a lot to do with the fact that he was the focus of the NHL's star-maker machinery before having even played a single game in the NHL -- hell, before he was even drafted. -
Honestly, they're both s*** holes. I absolutely detest the city of Philadelphia -- and I say that as a Pennsylvanian.

Uh, that's kinda how marketing works in professional sports. Sean Avery, for example, is the NHL's "bad boy." I think the league gave Sid the Messiah mantle at too young an age. I can see him becoming an Yzerman type at some point down the road. But right now? I just flat-out don't like the guy. And it seems a lot of people feel the same. -
There's probably some jealousy there. But it's pure frustration more than anything.
-
I've been saying Ozzie all along. Still stand by it.

Two words: Rafael Nadal.

Thing is, he didn't look bored. He looked like the love of his life had left him, and his mother died, and someone shot his dog.
-
Yeah, I was just about to jump all over him. But you know, he's right: the Pens had a great start. So if anyone plays the "Well, the Pens just didn't show up, that's all" card, they're wrong.
-
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go salute my fans."
-
Colin: "Well, the team, you know, they were frustrated."
-
Crosy's not playing because he's "getting ready for Game 6"? What a leader.
-
Wow, replay shows that was a headshot.
-
Wings better be careful here.

Gary Bettman does NOT look happy.

He really just doesn't understand the concept behind curling back on a rush at the top of the circles. You do it to leave the D flat-footed and to allow the rest of your guys to catch up. He just does it to look cool.

Sid missed his calling as a ballerina.

Holy s***, what a sequence.

And Ed complains about another "missed call."
