I'm on the fence. The Wings are 6-0 in this run when I do my rituals, so maybe there's something to it.

His girlfriend sounds cool.

I can definitely see him winning it. The Powers That Be are not going to let him, the poster boy for the league, walk away from the finals empty-handed two years in a row. And, in all fairness, it wouldn't be totally undeserved. That team would be nowhere without him.
-
The reasons are sort of irrelevant to my point. I'm just saying the antagonism goes both ways; while a lot of people are rooting against the Pens, just as many if not more are rooting against the Wings. That's the story when you get right down to it.

The Hockey God of Defense weeps.

What does Max Talbot have in common with Brian Campbell?

Can we please change the name of this forum to Racism Board? -
Remember, though: people hate the Wings just as much, if not more. I'm not defending the way the NHL is over-marketing Crosby. Just saying.

I can't believe so many people are buying into this myth (and that's exactly what it is) that this Pens team is deeper and better overall than last year's incarnation. Last. year's. Pens. team. was. much. better.

Congrats, you're talking up one player's run from five years ago. "You know your team's in trouble when..."

I tried this last season. I was plastered one period into Game 1. Funny story: a friend of mine took a recording of a random period from a random game in last season's SCF and edited it so that every word and phrase except "Crosby" and "Sidney Crosby" was bleeped out like a four-letter word. Pretty hilarious (and, at the same time, sad) result.

To be honest, I think it's more a matter of people wanting to see the Pens win. Which is an interesting change of pace, as 99% of the time it's more a matter of people wanting the Wings to lose. The NHL desperately wants the Penguins to dominate this league because, the way they see it in their provincial little world, success for the Penguins (specifically, Sidney Crosby) = success for the league. And, yes, another Wings title = failure.

P.S. "Fedotenko's 2004 Cup"? Seriously? WATCH OUT WINGS!!!1

I think the injury factor is being overstated. Nick has, let's face it, probably just been resting. If anything, that's a good thing. The same could very well be true of Dats. Lilja's iffy. Big Rig's iffy. I fail to see the cause for alarm, especially considering the Pens are far from a deep, physically punishing team. I'd be much more worried if we were talking about the Bruins.

Game 1: Lidstrom will play, Ericsson questionable

There's no doubt in my mind that Nick was simply being rested. I'm less certain about Dats, but I'm definitely leaning in that direction... -
Well, OK, to be fair, they're both hockey teams. And they play on ice.

Malin was pretty good for us last season; his disappearing act made things that much easier.
-
Because they'll be going from the likes of the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes to the Detroit Red Wings.

Question: Where would the Pens be without Crosby and Malkin? If your answer is anything other than "Nowhere," you're lying to yourself.
-
The Pens are a two-man show. The Wings are not. Thanks for playing.
-
I wholeheartedly disapprove of this thread.
-
I don't know why, but Scott Burnside becomes a colossal moron every time he talks about the Pens. Happened last year too.

A part of me wonders if Dats' "injury" is just a ruse to mess with the Pens' lines. I wouldn't be too surprised if he's suddenly and miraculously ready to go come game time tomorrow. -
Five words: "Seven games against the Capitals."
