Anyone see Hot Fuzz? Specifically, the last half hour? Let's do that to the Flames.
-
True, but this is pretty gold.
-
It's amusing, and it doesn't exactly happen every day. Thanks for playing!

We'll get the win tomorrow, probably lose on Sunday, and win a close game 7 to take the series. And all shall be right with the world again.
-
I wish we could clone Franzenstein.
-
We'll get 'em in the 3rd.

I think anyone with a level head knows the Wings aren't "in trouble now," and that the Flames offered no promise of invincibility in the coming games. The Wings made their fair share of mistakes, but the Flames weren't much better in that department--the only difference being our hard-on for shooting ourselves in the foot (e.g. giveaways, stupid penalties at critical moments), which you guys took advantage of, and which ultimately cost us this game. Of course, I'm probably saying this in vain; I'm sure as far as Flames fans are concerned, this game was TOTAL DOMINATION. WOW. OUR BUILDING IS SO LOUD. BETTER WATCH OUT CAUSE IF YOU'RE SCARED NOW JUST WAIT UNTIL WE REALLY TURN UP THE HEAT.

Honestly, I'm not too bummed about this loss. Where we absolutely dismantled the Flames in our wins, they simply took advantage of our brain farts (specifically, taking stupid penalties every time we started to gather steam) in their win. I don't feel we were really outplayed--we just have to avoid the unforced offsides so we can get a rhythm going; work on being smarter in our neutral zone-to-offensive zone transitions (if you see 'em lining up at the blue line, don't run right into them); cut down on the needless giveaways (i.e. better communication); create more space in the offensive zone on the PP with more deep zone-to-points passes; understand the refs are favoring the opposition and play accordingly (i.e. impale your victim discreetly); and knock 'em around (the Flames didn't respond well to physical liberties, and our best stretches of play started with big hits). Oh, and bench Lang.

You wouldn't know it listening to this broadcast.

We lack composure and we're making too many stupid mistakes. Also, STAY. ON. SIDE.

"He probably wonders why the coach doesn't play him more," Babcock said. "The coach wonders why, too."
-
I played hockey and did quite well with it, thanks. Bert: "I'm ready. The doctor cleared me. LEMME AT 'EM." Babs: "Bert, you're sitting. They could hurt you. You're a fragile human being and a momentum liability." Bert: "Da f***." I can understand sitting him if he's not 100%, but being extra careful just for the sake of guarding against a potential momentum shift is stupid. The guy's tough and he plays a tough game, and we signed him for that reason--so if he's good to go, let him go. Besides, I think the most important potential momentum-changer is us being roughed up in their building. Bert may get roughed up himself, but it's a risk well-worth taking; he can curb the rough stuff, fight fire with fire in physical contests, and add a whole new dimension to our offensive dominance.
-
That's a piss-poor, completely unrealistic reason for sitting a guy like him.
-
They're going to come at us hard at the Saddledome. We want Bert back ASAP, if only to let them know that just because we're in Calgary doesn't mean they can get overzealous with the rough stuff. Sammy sits, Bert steps in.
-
Pavel Datsyuk doesn't have the heart of Steve Yzerman. SHOCKING.
-
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Also, let Bert add a whole new dimension to the Flames' woes.

Saw a Wings game on TV when I was but a wee lad. Liked what I saw, started following 'em. (Pennsylvania)

Is Renberg really that big? Huh.
-
If I were to plant a Cuban cigar in tangstoiggy's desk drawer and Matt were to find it, would that be grounds for banishment?
-
Yeah, it was pretty unnecessary, especially considering your complete lack of whining about things like refs deciding games.
-
Yeah, it was pretty unnecessary, especially considering how hard Jarome and Dion were campaigning for gentlemanly play.
-
What a sweet, sweet win this was. Our boys looked excellent; we're in for a deep run, methinks.

This new roster has shown it can scrap, throw its weight around, and get those ugly goals. I like our chances. Wings in 5.
