If Brunner doesn't sign before free agency starts you can kiss him good-bye. Other teams have shown the propensity to do what it takes to bring in talent that matters.

Well free agency is a few days away, once Brunner signs somewhere else Kenny will know Sammy can stay.

Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per
MileHighWingsGuy replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
After drafting Bertuzzi's nephew it was a given we'd be stuck with him for another year. Completely agree on the Colo front the guy played solid and was the only FA from last year that added value during in the playoffs. -
Red Wings won't pursue David Clarkson
MileHighWingsGuy replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
More of the same...Kenny's working the phones and will be dealing during the trade deadline....Flip's future will be clear after the draft....Brunner wants to remain a wing....we plan on making trades during the draft...Just sign another useless Tootoo clone for those who love the fights and another old non performing veteran and we can call it a day Kenny. Can't believe Pavel got resigned with this idiot. Disappointment after disappointment with this guy. -
LeBrun is reporting we have made an offer.

I'd be happy with any of the numbers you guys are throwing around. He's a kid I want to enjoy watching the next 3-4 years. I'm betting he turns into a true sniper.

Wings looking to trade before using buyouts
MileHighWingsGuy replied to RedWingCraig's topic in General
Detroit played physical enough to win the Hawks series and the Cup. Tootoo was where he belonged for most of the series and playing him wouldn't have won anymore games. Get some big scoring bodies down low. Tootoo, Samuelson, Bertuzzi and Emerton are all expendable. I have the same faith in Holland you do, I could have lived without his free agency class last year for sure. -
Wings looking to trade before using buyouts
MileHighWingsGuy replied to RedWingCraig's topic in General
Tootoo was expendable and unused in the playoffs this year. I thought the guys played a nice physical series with him out of the lineup this year and can do the same next. If we are to get tougher move some old bodies and bring Bickell/Clarkson types in to bang near the net. -
http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013/06/15/how-joe-sakic-played-a-part-in-seth-jones-nhl-future/ Sakic and Jones relationship goes back a ways out here in Colorado. Since Sakic is now the man making the decisions I think there is zero doubt the outcome of the first overall.

Brunner will be a classic scorer with another year or two under his belt, a true sniper IMO. Don't screw around with Brunner, get him under contract as soon as possible.
-
I really like watching some of these young guys. Good mix out there now.
-
I'd rather have a solid Defenseman at this point. The kids on your list are decent but nothing to write home about. get. Smith's been out of the line-up more than in and Quincey is horrid. I do like Anderson and Lashoff but this team would be much more solid with with another big time Defenseman.

Mules out of the lineup tonight....any chance...?
-
I'd rather see the Wings focus on guys they have a shot at getting. Parise will be an unrestricted free as will his buddy Suter. There are plenty of avenues and people to look at trade wise if we are giving up compensation and if we fail to land the guys we really want.
-
What About = T.J. Oshie of STL., Evander Kane of WIN
MileHighWingsGuy replied to MrBest7's topic in General
Go after Parise and Suter hard, after that you can debate tertiary players. We go no where next year without an overhaul of top line talent. Parise and Suter fit the bill. If we don't get them Kenny better start making some trades. We did nothing at the deadline and flushed the play-offs away this year to make a play for guys like these in the off-season. I really don't want to hear about cap considerations, we sat on a ton of money and still are. Spend it on studs or sit out the play-offs as non-factors. -
Chances of Stuart being on the Wings next year?
MileHighWingsGuy replied to kluegs17's topic in General
Maybe he had a concussion because it really seemed like he just wasn't in the game. Many times the puck was near him and he was clueless. The Wings passing and the general bounce of the puck just sucked most of the game tonight. The hockey Gods definitely were not smiling upon us in any phase of the last two games. We were dominated, with or without Brad Stuart. -
I was really just comparing the Hossa/Mule who to sign issue this board kicked around the last few months. I really do think Holland chose correctly as mule is the real deal. Datsyuk had his issues but signed for less than fair market value IMO. Hossa is a rental that people are trying to convince themselves we can keep longterm and his lack of performance in this playoff period has done nothing but help us both see the value in our supporting cast and perhaps show Hossa he's not as valuable as he may think. My point was his lack of productivity either helps us keep the support talent that is shining or barter a better deal to keep Hossa longterm under a more friendly cap deal to us. If Holland had signed hossa longterm and Mule was blowing in the free agent wind I'm sure people would be clamoring for us to get Mule under contract somehow and pissed at Hossa for lack of production.
-
Holland looks like a sheer genius for signing Mule longterm and waiting on Hossa. I really really wish I could hear the thought process of Holland as he watches the supprting cast tear it up and Hossa go invisible. As fans we really can't ask for a better scenario. We are up 2-0 in the WCF and Hossa has yet to show. Either we sleep well and spend that dough on guys like Erickson, Leino, Abdelkader, Helm, Hudler going forward or maybe Hossa's demands for that long term deal are diminishing to stay with the Wings.

WCF GAME 2 GDT: Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)
MileHighWingsGuy replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I'm calling Filpula on the winning goal..... -
Its about time!!! Leino is an exciting guy that could spark this offense. We have enough guys not producing to plug him in easily. I'd yank Hossa long before Sammy. All Sammy does is produce and people still rag on the dude, Hossa looked lost all last game. Light em up Leino!!!

The NHL has been blessed to have a team like the Wings drawing decent ratings during seasons when they are trying to find a place and a large sponsor to carry their games. Teams in the south (non-hockey markets) killed this game for a long while and drained ratings nationwide. It would be tough to be at the helm of the NHL and not secretly be cheering for Boston, the Rangers, and the Wings to be in these primetime matches.

WCF GAME 1 GDT: Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 5
MileHighWingsGuy replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Experience takes youth to the woodshed today...I don't think there will be any heartattacks today. 5-1 Wings. -
The RedWing brain trust made the right decision by signing the Mule long term. He was the guy we needed to keep and a true play-off beast. I'm with the sentiment of the rest of the board, a Hossa fan that realizes we have too much other talent we need to secure long term. We need to take care of Errickson, Helm, Abdelkader, Leino and other budding talent. The heart of our team Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Mule are solid...keep Hudler and Flip. Hate to say let Hossa walk but its the only right decision.
-
We carried dead weight quite a bit of the year this year, all I want next year is to have Leino, Helms, Erricson and Abdelkader in the rotation. If we can afford to keep Hossa great, but some of these young guys have serious talent and are kinda being wasted. We need to keep alot of guys happy so if Hossa's tag is too high I think we kept the right guy (Mule). Also prior to the play-offs I was cool with dropping Flip to sign Hossa, but after watching him dominate in the playoffs I'm not so good with that anymore.
-
What a luxury to have a talent like Datsyuk in a slump and still dominate games. I hope for his sake he does breakout just so he feels good about the play-offs. He's been amazing this year both defensively and burrying the puck.
