Got my email. Ticketmaster is showing the $129 WC tickets as the only available ones. Hard for me to justify paying $334 for two sets. I want nothing more than to go - and to take my dad - but that's a big pill to swallow.- 143 replies

Worked out better than Dempster. So glad Detroit avoided him, a mediocre arm having a good year gets exposed in his first game in the AL. Nice to see the offense wake up last night. Hopefully they turn the corner at some point.

Our Current Defense / What Holland Can Do *merged
Travis replied to datterberg1340's topic in General
He should make another thread about it. Honestly, though, there's not a ton of value on the market and the available trade options are limited. I like Roszival, Colaicavo, and am actually really interested in the idea of Barker - albeit only if he comes dirt cheap. I don't think that Subban is a realistic option, I'm not sure he'd fit into the organization well since he likes to be flashy and showy, which I'm fine with, but I imagine is a turn off for some of the brass. Beyond that, I don't think he's truly available. Boyle would be a good offensive plug, but still doesn't give us that top-tier guy we'd all love to get. That said, the only person I see doing that is Yandle and he's already been discussed ad naseum. Obviously, Holland and Co. will do something, but I imagine we likely go into the season with Kronwall, White, and Quincey as our top 3 defensemen. -
Vladdy! I can't believe it. When I first read that 4 of the 5 would play I assumed it'd be Koslov. This is amazing.

Wings & Yandle twitter-rumors? Believable?
Travis replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
While Nyquist won't be the "next Datsyuk" - I truly believe he's going to be great. He was a near-dominating force the times I saw him with Grand Rapids. It was easy to spot him anytime he was on the ice as he was clearly head and shoulders above his competition in terms of skill. I expect big things out of him and feel like he should be as untouchable as Smith in terms of trade bait. -
White Sox pick up Francisco Liriano. Thank you White Sox. I can't wait for him to cost you games.
-
Do no want at $30 mil for 4 years.
-
I was hoping to see Semin sign with Detroit. I know the 1-year deal will sting some people as well, but Holland and Co. must have really seen something they didn't like. It says a lot that such a talented player went unsigned for so long.

Haha. I don't have ESPN either, but I'd be pretty surprised if Burnside were ever on television.
-
Yeah I don't understand why Burnside is always in his house. He and LeBrun have debates over webcam on a weekly basis. I guess it just goes to show how little ESPN cares about hockey.
-
Yeah, I'd consider myself a fan of Versteeg, but I don't know that he's worth $4.4 mil annually. Works for Florida since they generally have to overpay, but he was a strong part of their turnaround down there so I'm happy to see them retain his services.

Who is your favorite player from a team besides the Wings?
Travis replied to CaliforniaWingsFan's topic in General
Miguel Cabrera. Edit: in all seriousness, that's a tough question. I honestly don't know if I have one at this point. There have been players that I've enjoyed outside of the Wings but they always seem to turn out to be assholes, whiners, or political martyrs. -
The Rangers still have $13.3 mil to spend.

Tigers acquire SP Annibal Sanchez and IF Omar Infante for P Jacob Turner, C Rob Brantly, and P Brian Flynn. Turner is still not MLB-ready, as we've seen in his 2 starts this year. It was nice to see him shut down the White Sox, but I am more concerned with the Rangers, Yankees, and Angels - and Turner won't shut down any of them. Infante is exactly what we need to upgrade the 2B position.

Thank you, moderator. Posted hastily from my phone. I wonder what Howson's haul will look like compared to what he was asking for earlier this year, per the rumors.

Oh. Another one of these. I'll say this, I love the potential in a Nyquist / Helm / Brunner line. I expect big things out of the Goose.

Sensationalism in the headline from NHL.com / Bleacher Report. Maybe not to such an extreme, but he very plainly states that he's likely "in Dreamland" when thinking about playing and that he hasn't actually given it any real thought let alone had any discussions about it. I guess I was just expecting something different in the article when I read it earlier. Regardless, I'd hate to see him tarnish a great career by hanging on too long. Even his "homecoming" was less than poetic. I can, however, understand wanting to end your career on your own terms - which he wasn't allowed to do in Dallas or Detroit.

Who needs to reach the cap floor in the East?
-
Assuming Shane Doan is the reason for Detroit's inactivity, at what point do you cut your losses and move on? If, for example, they are interested in Semin, when do you begin considering him as your best option? Especially if Doan has no timetable for a decision - do you move forward or risk losing out on other free agent forwards in hopes of getting your man?
-
Per http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/12/doans-agent-says-july-16-deadline-is-off-the-table/
-
The article I read states Doan will be waiting until the 16th to see if the ownership situation in Phoenix becomes clearer. The two Glendale men trying to petition against the purchase agreement have until the 16th to collect signatures, that date was originally the 9th but was given an extension because of a paperwork delay - hence the setback in Doan's timeline. From what I understand, he'll start fielding offers after the 16th.
