Ya but the goal was scored against what looked to be a bottom tier ECHL team.

Agreed.

If Larkin forces his way to the team , what will we look like?

Hilarious reading this thread from the start and what people wanted to do with Larkin. Not saying that they were wrong per-say but jimmy was on point with his thoughts and looks like the best decision was made because he is literally our best player right now and he's only 19. Holy s***. -
It's weird to see this list without the Leafs at the top, however, with the recent success of the Rangers and the Canadiens, I suppose it's not surprising especially since the Leafs suck and the Toronto market is now getting teams that aren't s***ty anymore with the Raptors and Blue Jays.

Why are so many people so fond of the "throwback" styles?

Most teams do a version of skills competition anyway. Haven't really paid attention but has Helm ever done fastest skater for the Red Wings?

I know I'm likely in the minority but I like the Red Wings jersey.

Damn cross-post. All sorts of new friends, very few are the same. The person below me likes to go out dancing.

I think this is a terrible idea. The reason the current OT 3 on 3 is so good is because of the speed and intensity of it. I envision just a s***load of breakaways where no one cares to backcheck and about 40 goals/mini game.

I think this was a fine decision, but remember when these types of hits were legal and celebrated in the league? -
Sad to see this. I don't think it's a horrible move since he has certainly underperformed expectation, however, I was really excited when we drafted him and it's a shame he didn't pan out like I expected him t.

Who and What are the Detroit Red Wings?
Never_Retire_Steve replied to OldTimeWinger's topic in General
They have and because of it they've made some minor moves that I haven't liked that I believe hurts the team long term (They've been minor changes but I think it shows the wrong philosophy with what direction this team should be heading). An example would be the David Legwand trade. We realisticly had no Cup equity that year and gave away a draft pick. I know a lot of people would say, who cares about a 3rd round pick, but we should've been on the other side of that type of deal IMO. -
Who and What are the Detroit Red Wings?

As much as it pains me to say this and I really don't want it to happen but the best thing for this team might be for it to miss the playoffs. -
What are the chances Larkin wins the Calder ?
Never_Retire_Steve replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
He should definitely be in the conversation. Duclair is a guy that I think has been very good and is still apparently a rookie. Hasn't put up as many points as Domi so that likely hurts him but I think he is a far better player than Domi. Panarin is tough to ignore because he's been very good and has already put up a lot of points so I agree with him being the favorite and he's been very good in all areas of the ice. My rankings of best rookie players: 1. Panarin 2. Duclair 3. Larkin -
So that we could trade for someone that can help us score?

I always find it interesting to look back at threads like these when someone brings up a point like "Is Jimmy our guy?" and the obvious answer seems to be "Of course he is, are you crazy?" If you remember, Mrazek ended up being the guy in the playoffs last year and shows you that as a goaltender, there isn't usually a lot of job security for the starter's position. Ottawa is another good example. One goalie gets hurt and then Hammond plays out of his mind for a sustained period, gets Ottawa in the playoffs and earns the start.
-
Hope that we are shopping our goalies right now to some other teams. Return value is probably at it's highest point right now (This season).
-
I certainly think that Tampa Bay will make the playoffs. Detroit... Not so sure at this point and it very likely could come down to the difference of one game. You're talking as if Detroit has a 95%+ chance of making the playoffs whereas I view them right now as having about a 40% chance of making the playoffs right now so if Mrazek is the better goalie, he should warrant more playing time if our goal is to make the playoffs. If our goal is to look long-term then sure, let's keep doing what we're doing and then hopefully make a trade for some assets and set ourselves up for a good spot in the draft. Sure. I hope they both have .970 save percentages but unfortunately that's not the reality right now. The reality is that so far Mrazek has earned the starter's role so he should be rewarded accordingly.

Ya but it looks like we'll be fighting for a playoff spot this year. Rather play the guy that gives you the best chance to win and not based on future contracts.

Wings Need on D and Glaring Inconsistencies
Never_Retire_Steve replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Agreed with a couple of people on here saying that even though scoring seems to be our primary problem, that doesn't mean that our issues aren't on the back end. Luckily for us, our goaltending has been good so far this season and we have good defensive forwards. Also, I think part of the scoring problem is the fact that our D corps isn't very good at moving the puck and that hampers our ability to score because we aren't able to move the puck into the offensive zone and create chances. -
Think Blashill has done a pretty good job on this but would like to see Mrazek get more playing time as he has been the better goaltender so far this year.
-
Been in the Mrazek camp for a couple of years now. Guy has great athleticism and think he is a very good goalie. The only problem with having a good goaltender is that it seems to hurt a lot of teams wrt cap and don't think GMs have done a very good job in terms of properly valuing goaltenders.
