WCQF Game 5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Predators 2
Johnny Diamonds replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I wanted the Wiz as much as any Wings' fan last summer. But he wanted WAAAAY too much money. Columbus severely overpaid for a player of his calibre. Let's put his salary in perspective. Wisniewski is making $5.5million per season. That's only $700k less than Lidstrom and over $1million more than Kronwall. This is the type of crap that happens when you have a poor free agent pool like last summer. Ken Holland will pay high market value for a player who is really worth that type of money. As he did with Hossa. Now when it comes to the trade deadline it's a different story. I believe Ken Holland overvalues his own players and prospects. This why we haven't seen many trades the last couple years. The Wings have plenty of money and capspace to play with this summer. And they better make something GOOD happen. This team really needs some fresh blood in that locker room. It's time to cut loose some of the hanger-ons as well. -

1. Win more faceoffs (especially the ones in your own end) 2. Possess the puck (MORE) 3. Score more than 2 goals a game.

I'll give him a solid B for now. Especially with all the capspace left for a deadline deal. I still want to see him get a top six forward. Hopefully he can make something happen by the trade deadline.

"We feel good with the people we have," Holland said

So we're gonna sign a backup Goalie and have a ton of money to play with at the deadline? I'm cool with that! I really want Kenny to pickup a top six forward this season. If we don't get one until the deadline that's fine. How about this for a faptastic sports wetdream. Phoenix is completely out of the playoff race by the deadline, which is very possible. Kenny pulls the trigger and adds Shane Doan for a rental. I can't think of a better player available at the deadline to add to this team than Shane Doan. He's big, he can score goals and he likes to smash everything in sight. Not to mention his hunger factor. A deadline deal this season would be his best shot at winning a cup. Obviously a lot of factors have to take place in order for something like this to happen. Phoenix needs to suck (by the looks of their team, they will). Hopefully Doan and Phoenix don't get a contract extension worked out before the deadline. And lastly Doan would have to waive his NMC. If the above things happen, and a team like the Wings comes calling, I think he will. -

Wings sign D Ian White to 2-year, $5.75m contract

They're assuming Smith will make the team out of camp. But with this move he's probably gonna have to stay in G.R. another season. -

White is $2.8mil per and Ericsson is $3.2 per if I'm not mistaken. -

Over $6 million. and as other have stated if Hudler is moved it would be close to $9 million again. -

Good signing, reasonable contract. No complaints with this one, except I guess Ericsson's contract wasn't exactly market value now was it Kenny? -
Zherdev and Miettinen are the only two top six forwards left worth signing. Either would be a great fit on this team.

Fine if it will make everyone happy we'll give him an A+ for trying to do something, and then we'll give him a D- for not getting anything done with all these talks he's had. Also, I completely understand now. On one hand Ken Holland is a great GM and does no wrong. And on the other hand (same people say) all our players suck and are not worthy of trades or of value to other teams.

It's crazy, Holmstrom is not a top six forward any longer. He's still good as a power play specialist. But he should not be a top six forward. There is definitely room for a quality top six forward on this team. And in my opinion there is not only room for one, but there is a NEED for one. Ken Holland has to address this. And if he doesn't he is making a huge mistake!
