Signed Wings sign (D) Brian Lashoff to 3-year, $2.175m extension
DSM replied to Jedi's topic in General
You are way overvaluing Kindl. Players of his age and potential get used in deals for rentals just about every season. What are the Wings supposed to do? Have him take up a valuable roster spot while they wait for him to reach his "prime"? -
SCHULTZ WAS IN THE AHL BECAUSE OF THE LOCKOUT! YOUR DUMB POSTS INFURIATE ME!!!!

You still don't get it. The reason Ryder's name is being thrown around in rumors is because he is UFA at years end. He's going to be valuable to teams that are playoff bound that want to add an extra piece to their offense. He will be a RENTAL PLAYER for the rest of the season and the playoffs, then he will become a UFA unless the team decides resign him. If the Wings are in playoff position come deadline time and Dallas is not, Dallas will probably put Ryder on the market. If that's the case you can bet your boots Holland WILL inquire. He won't carry a team to the Stanley Cup, but adding a guy that has a Stanley Cup on his resume, potted 35 goals last season, and would be on pace to put up 27-28 in 82 games this season can only make the team better. Now say it slow... P-L-A-Y-O-F-F R-E-N-T-A-L. Is that not allowed in NHL13?

Signed Wings sign (D) Brian Lashoff to 3-year, $2.175m extension

I'd rather have Colaiacovo in the top 6 than Kindl. Huskins is also arguably more useful than Kindl. He should be. He becomes waiver eligible starting next season, so no more GR unless the Red Wings want to risk losing him on waivers. I think the length of the contract explains it too. If they didn't think he would be on the team full time, I doubt they would've given him 3 years. -

It's a possibility though. They were going to re-assign Lashoff before Smith got hurt and Huskins was still on the team. It's the easiest move they can make. Again, we are 5 weeks from the trade deadline. If they think that he belongs in the top 6 at that point, they will recall him. Just like Lebda in 05/06. He got a ton of playing time while Kronwall was hurt and after Fischer was out. They even signed a Huskins that season, in Jason Woolley. Lebda looked great all season, but eventually had to go back to GR for a little while. Once the roster limit was lifted, he was back up, and beat out Woolley and Cory Cross for a spot in the top 6 during the playoffs. -

Lol, exactly. Lol. Kenny aint that cheap. He'd probably throw in Tatar as well. -

That would surprise me. With 6 of their 9 dmen going in and out of the line up with injuries, I doubt they would risk losing one of them on waivers. Especially one of the three that have been healthy all season. Besides, Lashoff's re-assignment would only be temporary. They would be able to recall him when the 23 man roster limit is lifted after the trade deadline. -

When Smith and Colaiacovo get healthy he'll probably have to go back until someone gets hurt again. Easiest and least risky move the Wings can make to keep their depth on the blueline intact. -
I think if Kindl and White are both gone, the Red Wings will look for a good shut down type dman this summer and roll with something like this Kronwall-Ericsson Quincey-Smith UFA-Colaiacovo/Lashoff
-
I can agree on Feaster, but I still think JMac is a solid NHL goalie and I'm glad he's getting another shot in the NHL. I watched the CGY/MIN game on Saturday and he still looked pretty good.

My guess is somewhere between $800-$900k. -

Oops, wrong index finger... Doubt any team will want to take on Quincey, seeing that he is still under contract for next season. It'll most likely be something like: [Jakub Kindl] + [draft pick(s)] for [impending UFA dman] The draft pick(s) would obviously depend on the calibre of the impending UFA dman. -

My bet is that if Holland adds a dman at the deadline, Kindl will be part of the package that goes in return. Kinda like Pushor in the Mironov deal, and Kuznetson in the Schneider deal. I don't know. It would make sense. Lashoff can't go back to GR without hitting waivers starting next season, and if they wanted to give him a 2 way deal they wouldn't have given him 3 years. -
White being a UFA is really the only opening they will have on D. 4 of their (healthy) top 6 are all under contract for next season (Kronwall, Ericsson, Quincey and Colaiacovo), Smith is an RFA that will obviously be returning, Lashoff just signed an extension that is probably a one-way deal and Kindl is an RFA that has a clouded future. I doubt the Red Wings want to carry 8 dmen next season when they have so many forwards, so White leaving is the only opening they have to make an upgrade. I've been avoiding the whole Dekeyser thing. For one thing, if he is of the same calibre as Justin Shultz, he'll probably sign with a team that will be eager to give him a big role right off the bat. The Red Wings won't want to do that.
-
I wouldn't spend the teams immediate future on the draft. The draft is a gamble, there's no guarantee that guys that go in the first round are going to be big name players. Ever heard of Alexandre Daigle or Patrik Stefan? I know you've heard of Thomas McCollum...

Good news! If it's a one way deal (which I'm sure it is), I wonder what that means for Kindl's future with the team? -
Barely beat out Conklin? Conklin couldn't stop a car using the brake pedal last season. Joey was outstanding and he CLEARLY beat out Conklin. Don't know what team you were paying attention to last season... Calgary better fire Jay Feaster soon, he claimed that awful goalie on waivers to be the starter while Kiprusoff is hurt...

Not that it really matters much now, and I know he wanted to be traded, but they still had another NHL capable goalie under contract as well.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opinion/2013/02/30-thoughts-nhl-realignment-still-needs-work.html Holland is going to wait till the last minute this season to decide to buy or sell. I think for the Red Wings to be buyers, they would need to be in a playoff spot or have a realistic chance to sneak into a playoff spot. I wouldn't expect any top teir players, but I would think Holland would inquire about veteran 2nd/3rd line forwards, and veteran 2nd/3rd pairing dmen. For the Red Wings to be sellers, they would have to be well out of a playoff spot with a very very slim chance of securing one of the final spots. I would expect Holland would get offers for Filppula, White and Cleary from playoff bound teams looking for rentals because they are all UFA's. Yes, I said Cleary. I'm sure a playoff team wouldn't mind having Cleary on their 3rd/4th line as a rental, if the price was right. I'm sure Holland will get calls about Howard too, but I'm sure Howard won't be moved. Huskins and Miller are UFA's, but I doubt teams will come calling for them. I wouldn't expect Quincey, Bertuzzi, Colaiacovo or Samuelsson to be moved. They all have one year remaining on their respective contracts, and the cap is going down next season. I'm sure a lot of teams won't want to absorb more contracts for next season when they have other matters to attend to to get under the lower cap. Franzen may get some interest, but I doubt the Red Wings will move him.
-
If the Red Wings are going to keep Sheahan on the team, it would have to be for more than a 4th line role. The kid can still go to GR for 2 more seasons and round out his offensive game playing 20 minutes a night, rather than playing 10 on the Wings 4th line. And where did Emmerton go?
-
There's a definitely a good list of secondary type guys out there, but I only wonder how overpriced they will be? I think Holland will let Cleary and Miller walk and fill their spots with Tatar and Andersson. I think if he re-signs Filppula for the right price, he'll stand pat on offense. I think on D is where he'll spend some money. He can let White walk, and fill his spot with an upgrade. I kind of would like him to go after a bigger more physical defender. The team has enough "puck movers" on the back end, they need more of a physical presence back there. I hope they make a play for Regehr. If he does get moved, that will probably be the most realistic return. Maybe a 1st and a decent blueline prospect. I'll bet if the Wings are in playoff position at the deadline, Holland will add a 2nd/3rd line forward and a 2nd/3rd pairing dman as playoff rentals.
-
I can only see two possibilities with Filppula, and they both depend on where the Red Wings are at come trade deadline time: 1. IF the Red Wings are in playoff position or are still in the race for a spot, they will keep him. Even if they are no closer in negotiations. They could try to move him, but no team is going to offer anything that would help the Red Wings down the stretch and into the playoffs in exchange because he is a UFA. He also has virtually ZERO value as part of a package deal either, because of his UFA status. or 2. IF the Red Wings are well out of the playoff race, Holland will get offers from playoff bound teams to add Filppula as a rental piece. And no, top tier players or top tier prospects won't be coming back in exchange. Expect good draft picks and mediocre prospects to come back in some sort of package.
-
What happened to Quincey and Kindl? Are they going to retire? If Bob Murray traded Ryan or Perry and Filppula was coming back in the deal, he would get fired immediately. And, no combination of the players you listed is going to bring a top defender.
-
Bogosian and Byfuglien would cost the Wings significantly. Helm and Smith would have to be offered just for Winnipeg to consider moving one of them. Myers would be a risk at the moment. He's struggling in Buffalo this season, and has a $5.5mil cap hit till 18/19.
