Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?
rivieraillusions replied to Chaldean's topic in General
I grew up in South Texas playing Soccer all my life. I never really enjoyed the mainstream sports like Football, Baseball, and Basketball that much, though I am a big sports fan in general. Needless to say, I didn't get much exposure to hockey living where I did, but one night I watched the Detroit Red Wings on ESPN and became an instant fan. It was 1994 and Steve, Sergei, and the gang had me hooked. I was on the road to Phoenix during game 4 of the SCF in 1997 but was listening on ESPN radio and that win cemented me as a Red Wing fan for life. Players come and go and the face of the team changes from time to time, but no matter. The winged wheel prevails. The history, the culture, the attitude . . . it's all like no other. -
Par for the course, I say. However, I hope they beat San Jose, because we own them.

Yeah, Regehr is good, but adding him to a defence corp that was brutal will only make them mediocre. Adding Bert to a forward corp that was hustling and lethal will only make them that much better. I personally thought that was a bad trade.

Don't sell the Flames short, Detroit dominated from beginning to end. The only response Calgary had was to goon it up. Our defense was stifling and theirs . . . not so much.

I couldn't post during the game as I was just too damned into it, but all I have to say is damn, what an ass-kicking. We dominated them in every facet of the game. Without Kipper, it would have been a white-wash. I also liked how we came out hitting and handled their physicality. After this game, I like our chances, especially with Bert coming back into the lineup.

Because Terry Crisp said that Brett Hull would never make it as an NHL player and was responsible for him being traded from Calgary to St. Louis . . . please, STFU.
-
No need to panic, they're only saying it's likely, not that it's a definite.

I say we try for the Sunday game - I live down south in Circle C so the drive would be much better on a Sunday afternoon. Also, this way I can do a little trade-off with the wife - I watch the little one for a while on Saturday and she reciprocates on Sunday. It's a win-win.

I'll try to make it - will have to get clearance as well.

Most sports bars here won't announce that they're showing this game or that game, you just have to show up and hope one of the tubes is tuned into VS or NBC.

stoned by hasek!

We probably trap less than any team in the league. Playing puck-possession is not trapping. Yes, we played a defense-first game in the third period, but that does not constitute a trap. We were still putting pressure on them.

******* hilarious

Play some Skynard man!

I hope you know I meant Terry "Brett Hull will never make it in the NHL" Crisp.
