I understood what he was saying. My contention is that typically players that were drafted and played their entire career for a franchise don't come out and screw said team that way. They decide to move on with their career but 9 out of 10 times, its not as if they want their former team to burn either.

Because the player has no say in their rights getting traded provided they don't have a clause preventing it. The team they currently play for makes this move (regardless of the players' desire) in order to not get left empty-handed.

You don't find it a bit curious that the OP is asking Ken Holland to do something anyone in their right mind already knows he's gonna do? The thing that frustrates me is why does this OP believe that Holland would do anything but his proven recipe in this offseason, which just so happens to be the most devastating one he's had to deal with. While it may be a tough-love post, the fact of the matter is that we continue to hear from members that state Holland is an idiot, Holland sucks, I could run this team better....and they get downright annoying, especially when the OP is stating the obvious.

In all my years of being the Wings' GM I've never once not made the focal point of my team its defense. I've always over-invested in goaltending and offense first, because so many other teams have won the amount of Cups the Wings have solely based on that recipe. Now this off-season one of the greatest defenseman of all time has retired and we inevitably lost another of our top 4. On top of that, I've got $20+ million to spend, and you figured this was the moment in time I would pick to stop putting every single effort into our defense first??? I don't think Suter is a grade B Rafalski at all. They both have similar offensive upside, but Suter is far superior defensively to that of Raf. Suter's no Lidstrom, but he'll be able to partially control the bleeding of Nick's departure.

This off-season is really going to be interesting with the potential cap room Kenny now has and given how it could be turned upside down given the CBA is expiring. $26 million potentially for Kenny and Co. to spend.....that's a whole lot of Suter-Parise!

Gotcha....and my comment was due to the CBA expiring causing that number to likely not happen.

If you're playing along, can I ask why you're giving yourself a $70 million cap? I highly doubt it will jump by almost $6 million next year. Maybe a Mil or two.

Another thing I'm gonna miss so much was when an opposing player got a 1-on-1 with Lids. The player would be skating in and then look up only to find Nick Lidstrom in his way and the response was always the same, dump the puck in and head off for a line change. That's ******* RESPECT!
