trade details.. My question is... Do they really need more forwards?!?!?
-
Honestly if it is between him and Mursak I pick Mursak. If it is between him and Emmerton, I pick Drapes. If it is between him and anyone else on the team... I take anyone else. Even Hudler!

Mario opens his mouth about the state of the league. I found this interesting, but hard to swallow from someone who hurt the integrity of the game constantly with dives and whining about officiating. Sounds like more complaining to me, but what do you think?
-
I don't think anyone is going to trade for him, because he would have to clear re-entry waivers. I would take him at half the cost for sure, so if someone was to trade for him I would just swoop in and take him. I bet that the Rangers would do that if the chance afforded itself.
-
Our team has so many great prospects and so little cap, to suggest we are going to add to the team at their expense is far fetched. I would love Hudler and some picks to disappear if it would make us better, I just can't see how that would happen.

I noticed right away during the all star draft that Lidstrom picked Weber early and was some what excited to do so. Then I see in post game comments how much he was looking forward to playing next to Weber. Maybe Nick all along wanted to add this guy and drafted him to make a pitch This combined with the fact that they played so well together, teaming up for 5 assists and a staggering +13, makes me think that this soon to be RFA would be a fantastic addition to our team. He makes 4.5 this season which could be taken on if we went hard for a trade. I hate when people usually make these types of threads, but Lids looked really into playing with him and even without a trade there could be the possibility of signing this guy in the next two years. His heavy right handed shot would be a big boost, as well as his physical play. Would you give up the amount of draft picks to get this guy either by trade or Restricted free agent signing?

Over under set at 10 games, what do you got?

Best statement ever.

Rather it have been Crosby. Oh well, more time for him to make out with Igor's daughter.
-
I just don't see Weber wanting to stay in Nashville. Their ice is crap, their fans aren't reliable, and if I had to hear all that country music I would kill myself.
-
Not so much to replace, just that salary would have to be cleared. He makes a decent amount for what his value is, plus he could be resigned later. I look at it as more of to join Lidstrom via trade. Salei is not resigned and even if we had to get rid of Kindl or Ericsson we would have Smith available. Nifty way to get three right handed shots. I would even consider three firsts a couple of seconds and maybe a prospect or two. I still think Cory Emmerton should be moved now because of lack of room, and Hudler could be valuable enough that the two of them combined with enough draft picks would make Nashville trade in the division. If I ran the team and I thought for a second that I couldn't sign Weber, and a team in my division was offering up basically 2 firsts a 60 point player and a first round prospect I would have to consider it. If they threw in Ericsson and one second the deal would be done.
-
I doubt they would either, but if he didn't want to be there anymore then they wouldn't have much choice. There is no reason to move Ericsson unless you were to replace him with Weber Seriously though, you forget Kindl.
-
I highly doubt that Nashville would be trading with us... If they were, I would be willing to give them a ton of picks and players to make it happen. We would have to clear some room too... so Hudler would have to go! Our d looks pretty set for the future so they would have to move an Ericson as well...

What would be "what ever it takes"?

The game was more fun than I remember. I also dug how great the Lidstrom pair played.

Lets not get crazy its just an idea, the Caps are rumored to not resigning Semin, so im sure they dont want to lose him for nothing and they might get better offers, but Ken Holland might be able to work some magic. The players ive heard the Wings are interested in are (radio and websites) Ruutu(OTT) Semin(WAS) Setoguchi(SJ) Moulson(NYI) probably not after the whole Nabokov thing lol Staios(CGY) Bergfors(ATL) I don't think that any of those players would really help us besides Semin. I would kill to get Semin. I would think there would be interest in Neil as well if they were to trade any of the depth guys. Though I wouldn't imagine that we would be willing to trade the players to make that happen. The Cap price actually is doable with our cap situation for this year. next year might be a different story at 6.7 million. I doubt he would go anywhere now. I would be more than willing to give them Hudler, Emmerton, Miller, Bertuzzi, and up to two first round draft pick from him. He would be a perfect Winger on the second line with Eaves and vFil. However, the signing for one year clearly shows that they are going for the cup this year and will move him in the offseason to a team like LA.

I think there has to be something more to all of this, which is why I am quoting myself. I think we should be talking about that more than if it is fair or not. The waiver rules could have their own thread but I still say that the point is to make sure players don't take advantage of the transfer agreements. It is a crummy rule, but would you rather let players go make more money from the KHL and return every season to the top playoff teams at the trade deadline and throw everything off? Imagine every European in the league leaving and then coming back in march. and trying to sign with the Caps, Pens, and Hawks. Wouldn't that upset you? EDIT: also how did that font get so big?

Really what good would putting a young goaltender in to get blown out every night do? Common thought is that letting goalies get rocked destroys their confidence. This makes a lot of sense to me, put in an all star goalie to try and get some ticket sales. They should be able to make more than 250k off of him.
-
Just wondering Puckbags why you quoted me and said nothing? Are you in agreement with what I said?
-
It isn't fair to us or him, but the rule is clearly in place to punish him for not putting his chips in with the NHL in the first place. It hurt us this time, but would you have wanted Hudler to have left for the KHL only to return by signing with the Penguins??? Wait... no, I DIDN'T BRING THAT UP!!! AHHHHH! *ducks and covers* also, I know Hudler was never a free agent so this doesn't apply. Just pointing out the absurdity that players can leave the league and come as they please. That is why the rule is in place folks.

More I think of this, the more I think it was shrewed by everyone involved. The Islanders do nothing more than try to boost ticket sales. However, Holland knows that this will make all the players in the league notice how bad we want to win a cup and how much players are willing to sacrifice to come here. It makes a powerful agent happy because he was the only GM willing to go through this waiver embarrassment to get Nabs a job. It makes Howard notice that there is a ton more pressure on him and lets us see if he will respond. It highlights what has happened to St. Louis with Svatos and creates a bit of good will with some of the GM's, while making some rivals scramble to figure out what to do in response. I think they knew that, for all the effort of negotiating, they were not going to get him but the worst case scenario would be that they DID get him. The only thing hurt in Detroit by this situation is our pride. Holland doesn't seem to mind, and I bet money the players and fans do a bit. Maybe this is motivational psychology 901. PhD for Kenny.

Okay, is there some sort of way through grass roots we could get back at the Islanders?
