The general thoughts around raleigh (where I live) is that he's washed up. He's been on Carolina's third line and had his job basically stolen by Riley Nash. He's no where close to that 30 goal scorer he was during Carolina's Eastern Finals run.
-
A. At present Franzen isn't our's either,... B. several years ago Jokinen was carolina's best scorer,...just like Franzen was for us. C. I even said in my post that Franzen routinely scores 50 points,....... The point i was trying to make is that both got contracts based on their abilities in the post season (and the fact that in 09 jokinen was a 60 point player)
-
doesn't he have a concussion?
-
this is crazy, Jokinen is to Carolina what Franzen is to us (without the routine 50 point seasons) He cashed in big on ONE giant playoffs and since carolina never went back, who knows if he's still a beast post season. Regardless, he's streaky as snot, but when he's on,..he's clutch as all get out. Not much left of the shootout specialist anymore though i'm afraid.

Among all the sky is falling talk (and not undeservedly so I might add) A thought hit me, "so when do we pull a rabbit out of our hat?" I mean after all we've done it for 20 plus years,....by blind luck almost we trip on, fall into or out right steal some guy, who becomes the guy for us and ensures this red wings train keeps rolling down the tracks. The divine intervention of the Detroit Red wings is well documented. We wanted Pat lafontaine in 83' but the islanders drafted him first,...we had to settle for some kid name Yzerman. In 89 we drafted the best player of the last 20 or so years and probably the second best D man of all time (i'd argue first, but what do I know) 53rd overall. The flames drafted a finn 3 picks up Veli-Pekka Kautonen. Heard of him? Nope me neither. We got Draper off the jets for a dollar We got murphy from T.O. and the leafs faithful laughed hard, until he became an integral part of our D corps. ' Homer, Datsyuk, Zetterberg ect. ect. We all know this stuff,..and yet the thing that really gets me about our team is how freaking resilient we are. We survived two extremely high value D men having their careers ended and came out no worse for wear. Quick,..you tell me what would happen to a team like the blackhawks if Duncan Keith (God Forbid) had an accident like that? We signed Uwe Krupp, we managed to lure Ozzie back (and win a cup with him for God's sake) after we kicked him to the curb,..... Time and time again, just when you think this team is toast, something completely magically happens that ensures your ability to wear the winged wheel proudly for another decade or so. I have no idea if we're out of magic beans. I couldn't tell you if we'll never challenge again or anything crazy like that. All I can go off is past experience and past experience tells me that this team will find away (and will probably do so at the expense of another team). When I guess on what that magic may be i'm left with an interesting thought, say we do miss the playoffs this year......Remember that new rule? The one that says any team that misses the playoffs is first pick eligible? Paging Tinkerbell,....we need more fairy dust,..... With the first round pick in the 2013 draft, the Detroit red wings select,............

we traded him for todd bertuzzi.

problem with white going to carolina is he's already played there and sucked there,.....SJ would be a better fit as at least he was decent when he played there. Maybe the thought of not being in their conference next year will grease trade wheels.

WWard out 6-8 weeks, might the canes have interest in McCollum?
theman19 replied to Richdg's topic in General
Canes already have their own mcollum in Justin Peters. -
As a Raleigh Native I follow the canes like an older brother keeps tags on his younger more annoying sibling. That said, The canes are doing alright for themselves and as such probably won't swap strength for strength. The typical way Carolina does business is they throw prospects at people (they're TERRIBLE at drafting skinner and faulk not withstanding) for a ufa or a cast off player. I can see Carolina going after a teams struggling forward with some reclamation project prospect they have. For example, they're more likely to go after Lenio and throw some cheap prospects buffalo's way as UFA's typically don't see carolina as a first choice.

thanks for posting this! Everyone and their mom is reporting all about all that cap money we have so I expect us to be extremely active.

Gleason Signs Extension with Hurricanes
theman19 replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
That team won't suck indefinitely. They have a long history of pulling rabbits out of their hats when it comes to players, which translates into entire seasons where they shouldn't be doing well but just are. Now the reverse is true also, but the canes always seem to be best when no one seems to think they'll do anything at all. See 02', 06' and 08' for reference. Basically it amounts to Eric Staal. If he plays well, so do the canes. -
people, we do not want this team to lose on purpose (again) to get another high draft pick. At least now they can blame it on the injuries. All kidding aside, this team was built on extremely high draft picks, I take no joy in them sucking. I would take joy in seeming them come in 9th place for 10 years like the leafs did.

I imagine a lot. He's the only player on their team who's a plus. Plus 5 actually.

Again, I live in Carolina so I know these guys. A. In case we all forgot, Peter Karmanos and Mike Illich are not friends so I fail to see how we are going to trade with carolina period. Did we forget it was carolina who signed Feds to an offer sheet in 98'? B. Carolina is going to have a lot of trade offers and someone (flyers cough, gleason cough) is going to give way more than ken holland is willing to give. All that said the only guys i'm interested in is joks and Rutuu. Jokinen is of mild intrest because he can play all three forward positions but mainly because he's clutch as snot. Seriously google the 09 canes playoff rush to see "cardiac" jussi in action. Rutuu is my guy though. He's my favorite canes player because he does things hockey fans love. Hit, score and hit some more. He's totally what we always say we want, but don't have. A euro who plays like a NA guy.

let me help, I live in Raleigh and like the hurricanes like I like an annoying kid brother. They're annoying but They're part of my family so I have to like them. Eric Staal makes slow starts look like the flash. He really does do this every year just not this horrible bad. Every year around Jan he becomes "super eric" and makes the canes 10x the team they really are on paper. What no one has said, is how much did putting his own bro on the shelf do to him. When Staal came back for the Rangers, he started to catch again.

Carolina has a really bad habit of icing teams based on the coaches input. I realize that happens everywhere in the league, but explain how else there are four former maple leafs on this squad (and not from a good leafs era either)? Now that Muller has taken over for maurice I fully expect more habs to come carolina's way. Hell, they've needed a second line center for at least 3 years, maybe they'll do something really stupid and get scott gomez.

Latest Rumor: NHL Team Expected to Announce Rebranding in 2012
theman19 replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
Again, never going to happen. The canes have spent 10+ finally clawing their way to some level of respectability from most fans in the league (hey, they're not florida or phx ok?) After the wildly successful all-star game and of course the cup in 06' they're not going to suddenly alienate their small but albeit very fanatical fanbase by changing the team name and logo back to what it was before they were in north carolina. I honestly think think this is all total bunk, why would a team waste thousands if not millions on marketing a logo and a name only to "start" from scratch? Even the panthers name is deeply rooted in area they play in, representing the feral cats that once populated the area (http://www.floridapanther.org/panther_facts.html) If this has even a hint of truth to it, only the panthers or the yotes make even a lick of sense. -

no way it's the hurricanes. The cane's are deeply loved in Raleigh (I would love to see them called the raleigh hurricanes, most of the rest of NC doesn't give a piss about them). -
As a Raleigh Native, I can say you want no part of pitkanen. If you think Rafalski had defensive short commings this season, Joni will make you scream. He's a semi-effective PP guy and he did log a ton of min. for carolina, but that was only because no one else was there to do it. He was a big fish in a small pond, in Detroit he'd be a med. sized fished in a very large pond.
-
sheesh,...mark bell. I remember a couple of seasons ago (like 06') people were clamoring for kenny to sign this guy. If cleary and others can be polished up, so can this guy I suppose. Didn't he have something with drunk driving that scared a lot of people away?

Big E is this close to being the next Lilja. He thought he was worth more too.

eric cole please and thank you. Probably cheap,..would fit in exceptionally well with a playmaker (hell eric staal actually struggles without him) is fast and can hit.
