i know all along the Wings have said the compensation was a 3rd. round pick within the next 3 years...but....didn't the NHL levy the pay scale for compensation directly related to price of contract? im just angling for a 2nd or 1st pick. considering Babcock is now richer than 70% of players currently on rosters. that sounds like high end picks to me. Mclellan, Peters,Maclean, Nill, Yzerman....what would they have been worth? 7th rounders? anywho...the question i have been asking myself all day is...Babcock knows who were looking at in the draft, and knows names of "secret" late round players. is he gonna swindle the wings on draft day? shanahan: "hey mike, welcome to our draft table..are ya ready for the big day?" babcock: "brendan, throw that s*** list away, here is the new formula. we are 15 steps ahead of them red wings all day." shanahan: "but...mike...we have extensive details on all our.." babcock: "zip it....you want to win...or just show up?"...."thats what i thought (deathstare)"

since the draft, the wings have "tuned in" to Michigan boys. are there any coming up the ranks?

at the time we grabbed weiss it was to replace fillipula. he was steadier, shot more, and more physical. leader type credentials. we lost foot speed...but were supposed to gain the above attributes. its always a gamble. franzen/hossa. lang/fleishmann primeau/shanahan kozlov/hasek chelios/ire of fans bertuzzi/ire of world sometimes you win...sometimes you lose. i do wish our GM was more ballsy....but our drafting team makes it hard when the kids are generally so good after seasoning. i am truly impressed with the griffins lineup right now and hope that the "brain trust" doesn't throw away the next "datsyuk" (171 pick) for some ok d-man that gives us 60% of what we expect. timing is everything...if you force it....things go like the wendel clark/ulf sammuelsson grab.

(ala weiss) the weiss problem has been compounded by his 4th line demotion and lack of babcock trust. he was the "go-to" guy for years in florida...top linemates...season vets or hot kids...not grinders and brick hand players. hell, dats would lose his mojo on those lines too. but...its too early to tell anything...yet.

i am wondering what happened to "CATAPULT" sports. www.catapultsports.com/united-states/ they are an Australian based tracking company that has most of the globe covered already in sports data management. this last spring they were in bed with the flyers/sabres and i was salivating waiting for the IPO to release. This data will prove the most useful to the geeks...their system monitors heart rate, breathing, adrenaline spikes, muscle fatigue as well as impacts, speed, shots taken/received and puck tracking. (basically proving Franzen gets excited once a week for 2 mins.) this will end up being helpful with coach decisions on line changes with real time energy levels on his bench. this could also improve the +/- system by serving "real" results in being a part of the play, or innocent bystander. its cutting edge...and adds new pressure to players to be accountable for something else, but i do believe it can be superficially helpful. if you dedicate your life to being a high paid athlete...you accept the demand, and live accordingly.
