Maybe my explanation wasn't clear. I wanted to say that the talent for every position is spread according to a normal distribution among all the players that play that position. Therefore if you have way more forwards than goalies chances are hight that you also have more talented forwards than talented goalies. Of course this applies to absolute terms, relatively you will get the same amount of talent. I think this situation is similar to why bigger nations have more talented athletes (in general) than smaller countries. If you have a bigger pool to draw from you will get more talented players. Obviously the wealth, culture, etc of the nations does also play a vital role, but I guess you get my point...

I am not sold on this. When you start playing hockey your position is not solely determined by your skills. Kids who adore a certain player are more likely to try to play his position.

And why do you think this is the case? Do only "more talented" kids start playing as a goalie? So I dont see a reason why the goalies pool should be less diluted...

I will try to explain the point this way: There are 12 forwards, 6 dmen and 2 goalies in a team. Do you agree that the percentage of kids / players in general that start playing hockey "roughly" equals this distribution between the different positions? In this case being in the top 10 goalies is not as impressive as being in the top 10 forwards simply because you face less competitors. However, being in the top 10 percent is obviously equallz impressive for goalies and forwards. Does that make sense?

Your point is taken but I guess this is what happens if you join an internet forum of another fanbase. Some here are willing to actually discuss hockey with others will automatically call you troll and start calling you names if you do not agree that the red wings are the best team in the world. I know it is sad but that's the way it is... I am sure the situation on your board is similiar.

I agree with you that his attitude seems to be rather cocky. But most people attack his way of posting instead of discussing his (in my opinion valid) point that he made in his first post.

C'mon guys not liking the charakter of that guy or the way he behaves in this topic is one thing. But one can not really argue the point that he makes regarding class vs grit issue.

Did anybody else notice that the attitude towards other fans became increasingly negative and aggressive? I know this is a wings fan site and I am also aware of the fact that we are playing a tight series against a team that most of us dislike because of other series in recent history. But, as some of the senior members pointed out, this is also a hockey forum and isn't it far more interesting to discuss things with people that have other opinions? So far I think our behaviour towards them was far worse than vice versa...

I guess it depends on how you define "ridiculous" and "knowledgeable". If this means "not agreeing with us" and "agreeing with us" than you are right. But for example in the various brawl threads opposing fans were called names and were told to take their homer glasses off because they did not agree with us...

this topic was discussed in the zetterberg's contract thread but it wasn't a 100% clarified. From what I understood: 1. if a player signs a contract before the age of 35 his remaining salary will be cancelled and will not count against the cap if he retires / leaves the NHL. 2. if a player signs a contract after the age of 35 his salary is "fixed" and will count against the cap even if he retires. Does that mean that a player below the age of 35 could be signed for an incredible long contract that is heavily front loaded knowing that the player will retire before the contract ends. Something like: 8 m for 8 years and the 1 m for another 10. thanks for the clarification.

Nope, sorry I didnt check those stats. Good point! But dont you think that the Hart usually goes to a player that has an outstanding season and not necessarily to the most important player? I mean the Pens didnt have to rely soley on Lemieux they also had Jagr and Francis. The Avs had Sakic and Forsberg as well as a couple of good wingers.
