Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
e_prime replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Wasn't Darren Helm also a natural center? Didn't he play 2nd line winger? Aren't we all Darren Helm? If you could have Ken Holland deal any one player from the roster BEFORE the season starts and not considering the return, meaning, it's better to have them off the team than on -- Who would it be and why? -
...you mean aside from Z and Kronner? ...and the already injured Jurco and Pulkinnen?

No. The Wings traded the pick that was Chychrun so that we could alleviate Datsyuk's cap hit. Yes, we were hoping that we could make a pitch for Stammer by opening up that space, but to say that we traded that pick SOLELY to make a pitch to Stamkos is ridiculous. -

Nope. He's only there through this year. I know it'd be difficult with our own cap issues, but we could always retain some salary. Bufyuglien, Trouba, Myers, Enstrom. Folks can Over/Under-Rate Enstrom and Myers as much as they like, but they're still solid top four defensemen. You're right though, Buppy it does drop off considerably from there. I'm doubtful a trade between Detroit and Winnipeg will happen, but they can make it work if it does become desperate for them. We may not have a "replacement" for Trouba, but we certainly have some promising prospects that will work for them cap-wise now and in the future. Biggest issue I see: Winnie has an internal cap. They extended Buff till forever with movement clauses, have Enstrom and Stuart locked up for two more years with movement clauses, and then traded for Myers who's cap hit is $5.5 for the next three years. Where does this leave Trouba? On the outside looking in. Bridge contract? Why? Danny Dekeyser just got a nice healthy raise... why not me? Also, if Trouba is a no-go, I'd still be willing to take Myers off their hands. -

I'm sure if Glendening or Miller were the crucial cogs or even just the extra piece to any #1D deal getting done, if asked Holland would personally pack their bags for them and drive them to their new destination. -

Speak for yourself, bub. TBH: The only untouchables for me right now are Larkin, DeKeyser, and Mrazek -

There's serious rumblings tho'. I'll have to find the article I was reading where it seemed a little more pronounced. -

Did you not see -- not you specifically MFB -- and granted it was a few years ago so I can understand if it's a little fuzzy... but think back to what Sheahan did with limited ice time. A lot of folks, myself included, started oooh-ing and ahhh-ing about his potential to be our 2C.... MAYBE EVEN 1C?!! Then he came back down to earth. Hmmm. Seems awfully familiar to what's going on with AA. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if it did happen, but I'm still in #1D > Potential #2C. I'm also kinda surprised that none of you are bitching about Trouba's poor attitude and "wanting out of Winnipeg" and how it's the worst. -

Did Helmer get a no-trade or no-move in his contract? Wasn't really paying that much attention. What Nashville does get in that deal is exactly what Montreal didn't want... a player with personality. Nashville not only got a number one back... they got a guy that will put butts into seats FOR YEARS because he's a superstar. Compared to Subban -- Weber's a cold fish, void of personality. ...not even bringing to light the fact that Weber is obvious decline. -

Carrying charts with them? Like on a clipboard inside their briefcase or something? Why would they do that? Don't they have smartphones? ...or a tablet? ...oh, RIIIIGGGGHHT. Dial-up internets and everything. -

You also can't "simply look" at a player and tell if they are good. -

...or jokes. Don't forget jokes. Sure. There are certainly those that take the all or nothing approach to either stats or no stats and of course there is misrepresentations/interpretations of stats, just as there are for eye-ball tests. Using everything that you've got to analyze your players -- everything from eyeballs to spreadsheets -- and using that analysis to win is how you reach your end goal -- the Cup. -

I dunno why you guys bother with all the numbers and stuff when you've got two infallible, live action stat-taking, intangible-measuring, highlight-reel making machines locked up in your skull. Flowcharts and spreadsheets? BAH! These babies see in full technicolor and they wants to see a new shiny defenseman!!! -

signed Drew Miller re-signs... 1 year deal $1.025 million
e_prime replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Obligatory "You're my boy, Drew!" Post. I'm a little surprised at this signing, but I do not bemoan Holland for making it. Also, it's pretty obvious that most folks rate Miller for what he is. Nobody's over-rating and hardly anyone is under-rating. It's all in the belief that he either brings or does not bring something to this team -- of which I'm the former. -

Can you actually trade for Stammer's rights? He had a NMC for 15/16. Wouldn't that be in effect until July 1? ...and why would he waive that NMC? Why weaken a team you might end up or intend to sign with, especially now that players and teams can talk to one another before July 1. -

Do the Wings really even have a rivalry with anyone these days or is just whomever NBCSN says it is on a random Wednesday night?
