No. That's the thing. He may or may not even be ready to return at the beginning of the season... or at all. Ever. So all this worrying and being flustered over the possibility of him taking/wasting a roster spot may be moot anyway.

Is "dark" autocorrected Frk? Serious question -- Not trying to be a smartass.

I really wish CapGeek were around so that I could show you that this is most definitely NOT the case. Hell, his cap wasn't even counting against Philly last year when he was unofficially retired despite still being under contract and took a job with the NHL. Philly has been free of his cap hit for ages. ...but it doesn't matter much anyway as Franzen has and can seemingly continue to sit on LITR with no problems... AAAANNNNDDDD to once again drag this thread back on topic... kicking and screaming: Another rough translation of contract talks, this time with Pulkks. From Malik: http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/roughly-translated-pulkkinen-expects-contract-with-wings-to-be-resolved-soo?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Sounds like another case of a guy getting geared up for a season to show what he's really got.

I really see Jurco and Pulkkinen on limited fourth line duties unless they really don't play themselves out of that role. They really need to push Helm off the second line and they should even be trying to push Abby out of that first line spot. Slotting them into lines at this point... I dunno. Kinda hard. Franzen's spot could be open. You also have to factor in whether Datsyuk will be ready to go at the beginning of the season... The fact remains that unless some team is really coveting one or more of Andersson, Ferraro, or Callahan they're unlikely to be claimed at the beginning of the season due to teams still figuring out their own team/roster/depth... and the inevitable injuries that will occur throughout the season. I too would love to see Cally and Lando eventually get some fourth line time with Glenny. Like say, instead of Andersson... or when there are injuries that require a call up or next year when we have to make a choice of re-signing a 32 y/o Drew Miller or replacing him with someone younger and cheaper. When?

Or a roster spot. ...but you know. We could have. ...and that Hemsky contract. ...and that Lehtonen contract. -
Chuck Pleiness @wingsfrontman 23m23 minutes ago Chesterfield, MI Forward Louis-Marc Aubry signs a one-year, two-way deal with the wings. Aubry will make $575,000 in the NHL and $80,000 in the AHL. 0 retweets 0 favorites In other news: We can't buy out Franzen until next year, and if we do, it will be costly not in actual dollar amount but in salary cap dollars because of the nature of his front loaded contract. If we trade Franzen and he decides to retire, we will be hit with costly recapture salary cap dollars. If we waive Franzen and he is claimed we are still on the hook for recapture dollars if he does not finish out his contract. If we waive him and he goes down to GR, we'll garner little savings. I would post the numbers, but most of you Franzen haters didn't even read this post... let alone care about sound reasoning when it comes to the player and his potential. His potential, even as a thirteenth forward often scratched -- much like Weiss who's cap hit was more or Cleary, who clearly isn't an NHL caliber player, is worth more than any of the savings we'd get from any of the awful options listed above. So he doesn't play 82 games and put up the numbers he once did... but if he can slot in for injuries, chip in some goals here and there, get on a streak and dominate. Gee. All the clusterf*** of cap woes above and his possible potential I don't know why I'd want to dump him in the bin. Also, when the pro-Franzen s***-storm happens, I'm not buying an umbrella. I'll be like Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption after he crawls through the sewage tunnel, raising his arms to the sky with the rain pouring down -- except the exact opposite because I'm all clean and nothing but s*** is raining down. Sweet glorious Franzen s***! Still gonna welcome it like SWEET FREEDOM! /logic

Hey guys, look... another nice piece on Jurco and his challenges from last season and what he's looking to do this season: http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=770222 I mean, unless useless head-case Franzen keeps him out of the line up.

...b-b-b-but I don't want to lose or trade ANY prospects!!!!!
-
I try not to read too much into these interviews -- mainly due to the translation issues, but also because the player isn't going to say much... ...but I did want to point out that he doesn't expect the moon, just that he wants a little more than his qualifying offer. He seemingly has an understanding of how being a player in Detroit "works" noting his comments about Tatar and Nyquist and their respective salaries. Also seems like he just wants to have a good season. If you want to speculate anything, you gotta imagine he's feeling good about Blash being the head coach.
-
The only reported rumor that had any legs when it comes to Phaneuf is that Weiss was involved in the trade. I dunno where this "Franzen in the deal" trade speculation has materialized from... ...and while I'm sure EVERYONE would love to talk more about Franzen and his noggin' Can't it be done in the multitude of other threads already dedicated to Franzen? So we've got an over/under goal total for Jurco... How about Pulkkinen?

Sometimes I think people just don't read other people's posts... or they read too much into them... or don't consider who's written the post.

Yup. Wouldn't be "heavy" enough on the puck.

Remember! Babcock no longer coaches here!

Chicago is not retaining any of Sharp's salary. Dallas is retaining half of Garbut's. As far as Dallas' need for D... I can think of a couple DRW that wouldn't look so bad in Dallas. Any interest, Jim?

Daley + Garbut = 3.3 + .900 = 4.2 million Dallas is retaining half of Garbut's $1.8 million salary Sharp 5.9 million So Chicago saves a whopping 1.7 million. Still doesn't have enough money to re-sign Kruger or Oduya
