This is just reaching. I don't understand how trading one bad contract for another makes any sense for anyone in this case. For 400k worth of savings. Also, the buy out period only lasts from 2 business days (or thereabout) after a team wins the Cup to the end of June. So you gotta figure out if Vinny is gonna suck real quick like, ya know? Unless you're talking about burying Vinny until next summer, as well. Look, nobody likes Weiss' contract. Even people (ME) who'd like to see him get an actual chance to crack the line up and play some significant minutes. Yes, buying him out is an option... and if he really can't put next season together, it should be done. Yes, trading him is an option and one that should be explored. Yes, sending him down to GR is an option, albeit one that doesn't really save us much in the long run. ...but we've got a new coach, who might be able to give the guy a REAL chance to play to his capabilities or at least give him a real chance to make ANY impact. Yeah, with Voynov's availability still up in the air and assuming that LA is going to move on from Sekera... It's quite possible one of those two guys is probably going to rotate in next year. They're so young on D... and I think they're going to continue this trend. Greene is their oldest at 32. I think the only way they're going to move a younger D-man is if they have to create a package to move Mike Richards. As far as what I would like to see for next year on D. (Cue beating dead horse .gif) Trade Kindl. Re-sign Smith. Your D-Corps are: Kronwall Ericsson DeKeyser Quincey Smith Marchenko Ouellet Go after both Franson and Green to land one or the other. I'm not terribly picky at this point. I just want a point producing RH D-man that's younger than 30. I'm not afraid of term nor dollars because we can afford both. You've still got waiver exemption status with both Marchenko and Ouellet, SO USE IT. Unless these guys WOW! to an unbelievable level at training camp, start one of them in GR. Use the other for injury call-ups. I know it isn't Holland's M.O. but I think you've got to explore trade options for Smith before the season starts. If a trade isn't in the cards you've got to put Smith in a position to succeed. (Sheltered minutes, power-play time, pair him with Kronwall on the top line -- whatever it takes to either give the kid some confidence and/or to showcase him for a possible deadline trade.) This is his make or break year. If he can put it all together this year -- great! If not... it's time to move on.

This. I was happy that TVR seemingly had gotten into the game and then within two seconds of me noticing, he had a sloppy turnover in his own zone that led to a pretty good scoring chance for the Bolts. It's no wonder Q's been riding his horses. Tampa plays D by committee with Hedman leading the way. Not to say that Carle, Coburn, Strahlman, etc. are shlubs, but they're all showing up. It's nice to see. It gives me hope for our own defensive schemes. I don't think he's attacking you at all. He's stating a difference of opinion and giving you some thoughts to back it up. Don't take it personally when someone doesn't agree with you.

Sheahan is our Soderberg. Developing player that has fulltime 2C written in their future. There are other teams with depth at Center issues that will ****** him up before we'd be able to make the requisite moves of off-loading Weiss and at least one other forward to make room for him. Not saying I wouldn't take him, I just don't think we NEED him. Really, I can't say ******... okay... then GRAB.
