Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
e_prime replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I look at it this way. While Petry isn't necessarily an upgrade over Kindl, he's a RH defenseman that is at least on par with Kindl. As Petry's not signed for next year, if he isn't what we're looking for... it's pretty easy to just say, "Thanks for the playoff support, see ya around." So trade Kindl to EDM in order to free up a roster spot for next year. Kronwall - Ericsson Dekeyser - Quincey Smith - Then, whether it be an outside more "splashy" FA signing, re-upping with Petry, or promoting a rookie to the active roster full-time, we've at least received something for a guy that's pretty much on the outside looking in... Rookies are playing: Marchenko is doing well. Oulette is doing well. Both can be sent down without passing through waivers and will be up with the club for the playoffs as Black Aces, but in the meantime, WHY NOT trade out a d-man that might otherwise be waived and claimed for nothing, for some RH depth if Edmonton is willing to bite. Also, it doesn't mean you still can't get that upgrade on D by trading Smith ...or Quincey ...or Ericsson? -

I did not. I've been calling for this swap for quite a while now... because it seemed like something Holland would do. ...but as he's come out and said that it wasn't the type of move he was looking to make, I had kinda backed off on it. At one point earlier in the season I was willing to part with Helm, but as a piece to a bigger trade... not straight up for Petry. The highlighted is exactly why Edmonton should be all over this. Petry isn't likely to re-sign in EDM. Kindl is signed for a reasonable number; not N. Nikitin numbers, or the number they'll be paying out to keep Schultz happy in EDM. I would include that conditional fourth... and I'm not really of the mindset that Petry should be re-signed. ...but if we were to "strikeout" on other FA acquisitions... Having Petry as an option that's already played in the system, is a MI native, relatively affordable, RH, etc. wouldn't be horrible. -

I'd like to see the denial... otherwise, I'm going to go with the word of the three idiots. -

I'd still be okay with J. Petry for J. Kindl straight up. -

Holland has been griping about the prices of players in trades for years now... and has made exactly ZERO trades that have involved an active roster player or high impact prospect since when? ...and yet we're to believe that he was willing to part with Larkin AND Mantha for Tyler Myers? ...or Tatar AND Nyquist for Jay Bouwmeester? ...or considering these outlandish trades. HA. Holland detractors need to try harder. -

I see your Sami Salo and raise you one, Rick DiPietro. -
Can Kane be any happier about being in Buffalo than Winnipeg?
-
So, th' Peg rids themselves of two problem children: Kane and Bogo (who I believe has been a healthy scratch recently/in Maurice's doghouse) ...get Myers (who, I'm sorry, as far as consistency goes is no worse than Bogo and probably has a higher ceiling) plus Stafford plus a first round pick and a couple pieces. Seems like Winnipeg won this trade.

we'd probably still get stuck with Edzo... Equalizer by Tarasenko. What a beauty.
-
He's going to be backing up Howard at some point, no?
-
How convenient that he's been playing with a nagging injury and now he decides to have surgery... Skillset/Ability: Want. Attitude/Behavior: Do. Not. Want.

After Mrazek's recent call-up and play in net, I'm more than comfortable with the Wings trading Gustavsson at the deadline -- if Jimmy is healthy. I can't imagine Gustavsson is going to be re-signed in the offseason -- give him a shot at firming up a backup role elsewhere.

I'll just say this about coaching the best player in the league: There's a difference between being the best player and being touted at the best player in the league. ...and when I say touted, I mean being told, over and over, crammed down our throats, despite any shortcomings he may have, marketed until we're got BEST IN THE GAME drilled into our heads... I'm certain that while Babcock would love to coach the current "best player in the league," there's a number of factors that surround that player that would give him pause in making the move to that organization, not to mention how good he has it in Detroit. EDIT: For the record, I think he's an amazing player, but he's still a crybaby and ******* to the zebras about non-calls and such way too much for my taste. I think it's his face. I want to punch it. Repeatedly. Everytime I see him complaining to the officials or when they pan to him complaining from the bench. FIST to FACE.

I'll take it! Now regroup and get it back under control.

Isles give up two. Get two back. Tie game vs. Flyers. Ducks up two against Preds -- Getzlaf out of the lineup Tampa up two against Dallas Florida and LA knotted up at 1 a piece. Blues up 1 to 0 vs. Buffalo LETS GO WINGS!

Roenick is embarrassingly horrible. Tatar's nickname is 'Tuna'... because he likes Tuna Tartare.

Note: I said "tougher" conference, because talking-heads always say the Western Conference is the "tougher" conference. It's their quotes. Not mine. -

...and yet here they are tied for the league lead, with more points than the Wings, in the "tougher" Western Conference. Guess they must be doing sumpthin' right. -

Actually it applies quite a lot. Those contracts aren't just null and void because Savior Shanny has come to TOwn. ...and they're not REFUSING to give Franson a huge contract. Nonis/Shanny/whomever tried offering Franson a multi-year contract for just under $5 million (aprox. what Jake Gardnier is getting) ...because that's what they can afford to offer him. With the Phaneuf, Clarkson, and Kessel contracts they're stuck. Very little cap flexibility. Hence all the rumors of moving Kessel or Dion. So it's pretty obvious why they're incapable of offering him more. Especially if Shanny is trying to fix some of Nonis and Co.'s mistakes. -
Good to see that a team other than us struggles with ENG. Rangers had multiple chances to get the insurance goal and just... couldn't... do it. EDIT: Also, Pens beat Oil. Whatasurprise!

You mean current deadline defensemen options -- rental or otherwise in Sekera, Petry, Zidlicky, Green, Myers, and Yandle aren't number ones either? (They're not.) ...and neither is Staal, Boychuk, Martin, Ehrhoff, Methot, Oduya, Michalek, Beauchemin, Mezaros? (NOPE. None of these guys either!) All sarcasm aside, I'm with you on this man! We don't need a number one! We need a solid RH, puck moving 2/3/4 guy that will compliment what we already have on the team. Franson would be ideal if the price is right! Certainly, it's everyone's right to have an opinion otherwise, but I'm unsure why you'd really be against it. Not surprising. -

Woah, whoa, whoa slowdown there man... who are you to call someone out on their viewing habits? Maybe if you paid attention you'd see that krsmith17 has readily admitted that he watches a TON of Leafs games because his GF is a Toronto fan. Now, in my book, that's a tough thing to admit... so the fact that he has should be worth it's weight in gold (or at least bitcoin) for internet credibility. On top of that, you don't have to watch EVERYSINGLELEAFSGAME to get a good sampling of what Franson is and is not. He didn't say he's watched "every individual play" he said, "followed his individual play closely" which means, he's scouted the guy. He's on good basis with his abilities, his positives, his shortcomings, etc. Reading fully, and maybe more than once helps with formulating clarity in your posts, responses, etc.
