His name is Ellis. So it fits

I don't think this will be a problem this year... We still have to work on beer retrieval for watching games... but he wants to watch. ...and play?
-
Guess that isn't surprising. Sounds like we might have given up the lead more than once in this game too. Admittedly I did not watch a lot of games the last couple years with having a toddler. I gotta get on the GDTs this year -- keeps me more in the loop.

My latest surprising ad -- An ad to join the Border Patrol. If I get accepted do I then get an invite to join ICE?
-
I wish we could get that out of Danny Dekeyser every game!! It's hinted at but, did DD have a particularly bad game prior to this OT show?

Nyquist jersey is only $49. More expensive than a Mrazek jersery, but less than Tatar. https://shop.nhl.com/detroit-red-wings/mens-detroit-red-wings-gustav-nyquist-reebok-red-home-premier-player-jersey/t-36829572+p-8053329149178+z-9-12039354 -
Unless that's his kink.

I do like Wysh but he, like many writers, along with their own personal and often very strict views/takes on what a team needs to do to rebuild and or win ( @kliq & @ChristopherReevesLegs ) Writers also attribute the "fixing" or "winning ways" of a team to one player. For example: Steve Yzerman to the end of our playoff/cup drought. A nice crutch to fall back on. Easily and mistakenly made, but easily built upon. (see below for more of this) BUT to @krsmith17's point -- in the very next sentence he "poo-poo's" the idea that any of our current forwards can make that impact. Dylan Larkin doesn't have a glimmer of hope in being a differential player for the Wings? We should already be moving on to Ras and Zadina. WTF. Dylan Larkin is exactly the type of player that could be the next Stevie Y for this team. A key, but not sole piece to the puzzle. ...but remind me? Did we make the playoffs EVERY YEAR after Yzerman arrived. ...and how far along did we get with just the acquisition of Steve Yzerman. Wasn't his ass gonna get traded at one point because he couldn't get it done? ...but no! Steve Yzerman is the ******* answer to all. God, I know he's like one of the most beloved sports figures in Detroit sport history (debatable -- I don't think he should be the most revered Wing.) ... and no disrespect, but let's not put all of our playoff history and success solely on the back of Steve Yzerman. There were a lot of other players that helped this team get over the hump. Some of them well over the age of 25 when it happened. ...and sure the league is changing and becoming younger ...but a roster made up solely of players 25-and-under (which seems to be the cornerstone of Wysh's rebuilding process) or one lone generational talent... is only gonna get you so far. I'm not saying that Holland doesn't have his work cut out for him, doesn't need to trade a player or two, and certainly, no most definitely, needs to change up the strategy when it comes to acquiring defensive talent. BUT. For every Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader -- which according to Wysh (and others) are terrible contracts and need to be jettisoned immediately for us to find success... for each of the aforementioned, remember we had a Doug Brown or Mathieu Dandenault or Bob Erry. (Examples. Solely examples. Understandably not the same players, type of player etc. Cap world vs. Non-Cap world. Etc. Sorry if I shat on your favorite player of '96 - '97.)

2018-2019 Opening Night Roster - Dedicated to BlueAdams!

...and if they're playing or on LTIR there is no "navigating" the cap space. It's either available or it isn't. The only navigating of the cap space at this point would be if either Kronner or Z decided to actually hang them up and NOT go on LTIR. (Which is very very unlikely) -
I did leave that WIDE OPEN didn't I? You don't say? If he stays with the Jets... it certainly seems that way. I don't think they can not accept it. It would be ridiculous to not. ...BUT IT'S BEEN 48 HOURS WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO WORD?!?

"Highest paid team in the NHL..." Who cares? Does the Ilitch fam owe you money that they haven't paid back or something? "...and still a bottom 10 team." Isn't this what you want? You keep talking about our first round Lottery Pick... don't you want it to be a high pick in a deep draft? "Too much money for the UFA's we signed and they sucked up all the cap" Nothing a trade couldn't help relieve. Doesn't even have to be a big trade.

Just realized they also have to sign Morrissey and Poolman. Morrissey already ranks fourth on their depth charts (Hockey News) and is second pairing with Trouba. Poolman was a rookie this year and projects to top out in the lower half of the defensive corps, but could inevitably take a spot from Kulikov or Meyers (upon their possible departures) Nope. Not really.

Trouba arbitration was said to be a "marathon session" yesterday. Should see arbitrator's decision this afternoon. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/report-trouba-arbitration-hearing-jets-marathon-affair/ The settled with Lowry before his hearing. Tanev and Dano are still awaiting their hearings. Jets are busy this offseason!

So, negotiating now considered holding out? Sounds to me like someone needs to be held.

I have absolutely no problem with attaining defensemen through Free Agency and I certainly have no problem with Trevor Daley or Mike Green. (BOTH of whom were signed without giving up assets. BOTH of whom I LIKE.) I won't discuss the shortcomings/strengths of either of these players because it's been done so ad nauseam, but I think most of us (at least the smart ones) can attest to the fact that these guys are not our current, nor future TOP GUY defensemen. They're veteran placeholders. They're good at what they do and service the needs of the team. Without them we've got even bigger holes on the back end. Granted, I, like many other LGWers (and hockey fans in general) do have a penchant for latching onto (debatable) HYPE! defensemen and over-valuing and over-evaluating their worth. We covet them like we might covet our neighbor's wife. We put together CRAZY trade packages or suggest things like OFFER SHEETING them. We know we can't have them but we NEED them. ...and that's the thing. We do need them. Unlike our neighbor's wife, these guys should be attainable. We just have to make the right move. ...and sure, I know that there's plenty of other factors including other suitors, wanting to play somewhere else, a better chance to win, etc. all those things factor in ... ...but for every Bogo, Wiz, Pitkanen ... there is a Yandle or Niskanen or Bouwmeester or an example for today and not yesteryear... say... Trouba... That if we went out and got right now, RIGHT FREAKING NOW, would be a much bigger, impactful, etc player for this team both now and in the future than Mike Green or Trevor Daley or whatever stop gap vet you wanna put in there. Also. Speaking of overrated. Drake. *sheesh*

Concise? Nah, but I'm efficient if nothing else. Edler's more of a Magic: The Gathering type guy. Doesn't fit into the mix. ...I sure can pick 'em, huh? Maybe I should just stfu about these guys and we could actually land one of them?
-
Yeah. That could be it. More than likely is that I'm an idiot who hasn't really been paying that much attention. I'm the one panning Jack ******* Hughes. Winnipeg is ******* themselves by not being legit with these negotiations. Trouba may not be a $7million defenseman, but they need to stop picking (that is not the word I typed) him around. I'm always here for that... See Bogo discussions, Tyler Myers, and that Swede that was with the Sabres forever and then signed a million dollar deal with the Pens. ...I'm always on some potential free agent defenseman that isn't all what he is hyped to be. It's my M.O. Are you guys fast forwarding into the future? x4 speed. x8 times speed. x16 times... I noted in my first post that I wasn't sure if Trouba filed or the team. It was all hypothetical. I also stated that there was no way an offer sheet was going to happen EVEN IF IT WAS POSSIBLE. He's at my house. We're playing Dungeons and Dragons along with Pitkanen, Brewer, Kaberle, Bieksa, Wiz, and the aforementioned Ehrhoff.
