Well, not exactly. Holland waited until the last minute to pull off a trade, so he got the Wings backed into a bit of a corner considering they have 4 injured centers. That is his own fault. Also, I think Legwand is exactly what this team needs to get to the playoffs. Win the Cup? No. Is he what they need next season? Well, maybe if they trade Weiss, but not really. So you're right as far as the long-term view...but short-term, he is pretty useful.

Legwand probably called Holland and said he wanted to be traded there, and Holland, while playing Solitaire, asked his wet-behind-the-ears assistant to pull a trade out of his butt and here we are.

You're right, the NTC and the fact that Legwand is freaking from Detroit anyhow, thats all in Holland's favor. I guess he's just lazy and didn't even try that hard. Its disappointing considering the history of this franchise. The DETROIT RED WINGS just got bent over by the Nashville whatevers. I like Legwand though, and I'm not going to go ballistic about it. Hopefully KH retires soon.

This is absolutely right on. I don't understand why Jarnkrok was part of the deal. Eaves plus the pick is fine....maybe even then a slight over-payment. But why not just splurge and throw in a talented prospect, too? Here, take a few more picks while you're at it as well.... Holland is an average GM without his braintrust, and he just made an average trade. I'm not going to whine about it anymore, but average hasn't been in the Red Wings vocabulary for such a long time that this is difficult to take.

Well... I don't like the price that Holland paid (including Jarnkrok) for a rental....perhaps he's out of practice on wheeling and dealing... But it's an acceptable trade. B-

Yzerman's trade looks even better:

Hemsky for a 5th this year, and a 3rd next year. Not saying Hemsky is the answer, but this is a few times already we've seen decent players go for mid-level picks. Are we in rebuilding mode? Ok, then trade for picks? Are we making a playoff push? Ok, then trade for someone...?

Yzerman pulled off a huge deal. Marty is going to be 39 this summer, and he got Callahan, a 1st, a 2nd, and a conditional pick?
