Quincey to play for Denver Cutthroats CHL Hockey Team
evilmrt replied to Behind Enemy Lines in CO's topic in General
Weird choice. I don't understand why he wouldn't at least play for the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL, a step up from the CHL. -

Vote to get Griffins games on Fox Sports Detroit During Lockout
evilmrt replied to chances14's topic in General
Yeah, it's very strange. For the amount of huge amount of pro/minor/junior/college hockey that Michigan has....the large amount of kids playing youth hockey...and the relatively long history of hockey in the state...it still gets left behind by the other three sports. I don't think this was true during the 90s/early 00s, but it seems like it now (although I don't live there anymore). One thing that you may overlook, though, is that Michigan has a very blue-collar way of looking at things. So, if there is a lockout like there is now, and people see greed as one of the main issues, they will dump it pretty quickly. That said, it is still a bit surprising that a hockey state like Michigan can't manage to muster enough to get AHL on cable tv. -
Not sure, if this keeps up for long, if I will even support the NHL under Bettman. I know many here will be with me if they cancel the Winter Classic.

Huge fail by ESPN. None of the KHL games are on, or listed anywhere (none of the upcoming games, nothing).
-
This is actually pretty cool. ESPN3 is free to many US ISPs, including mine. So you make a free account at home, then download the app for your smartphone, and you watch it wherever you want. It also helps get around the 8 hour difference. Yeah, it will be 9:30am out here in the West, but I can watch it mobile, or watch the replay later. It beats paying for Gamecenter.

Scott Gomez, Joey Crabb, and Nate Thompson have all signed with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL. Um....there are no waiver requirements like the AHL here? If not, I wonder why no Wings that are complaining about wanting to stay home near family aren't going to Toledo (Helm comes to mind).

You guys will have to wait until April...when it comes playoff time, and there isn't any NHL hockey going on, people will start thinking about an alternate league. Its just too large of an undertaking to even realistically be floated until a whole season is cancelled. Now, if we're into next summer and there is still a lockout? HAHA. Yeah, I think something will start to develop. I hope.
-
Surprised nobody is talking about that (the game at Yost). I'm not in an AHL area, so you guys are lucky back in MI.

Thanks for the update! I can't believe that they allowed Nash and Thornton to be on the same team in that league. Slightly unfair, yes? Brunner got 2 goals...maybe he'll get tired of doing that and come to the AHL

HAHA! And Jimmy D really stuck up for Bettman! I guess that won't happen again...

Ok, the first Wing to sign a deal in Europe is our beloved Pavel Datsyuk, with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL, terms tbd. Mlive I wonder where the rest will end up? We got some hints earlier this week: And then we already have three that won't be playing anywhere. Surprisingly, Zetterberg is here to stay and fight for the NHLPA: Said Zetterberg to the press:

Both. After reading this interview, it is painfully clear that they both are pretty disgusting.

Brunner May Play for Zug, not in GR during lockout
evilmrt replied to Z Winged Dangler's topic in General
Very disappointing, I'm sure Kenny is pissed. Brunner SAID to the press that he would come back, and now this is looking like one of our many euro prospects deciding to play in Europe instead. Still, he will have some good players joining him if he does stay. Thornton, Nash, Spezza, Couture, Seguin, Ennis, and others have jumped to the Swiss league this week. -
Wings to Europe: Tracking which DRW players are playing where
evilmrt replied to evilmrt's topic in General
Huh, Tomas Tatar has gone to the Slovak Extraliga league. -
It will help some, and hurt some. I think we will see a renewed and revitalized Datsyuk after he returns from the KHL, the same goes with Filppula playing in Finland on the same team with his brother. Both of them have family connections that they miss while playing in Detroit, and I think it will give them a much needed boost upon their return. Same might go for Kronner and Ericsson playing in Sweden. Then we have Brunner playing in the AHL instead of being thrown right into the NHL. This is to the Wings' benefit. My concern is for some of the younger guys that won't be playing anywhere for months. Darren Helm is 25 and has said he's not going anywhere. Gustavsson is 27, and he also is apparently not either. These guys will get rusty, especially Gustavsson as a backup goalie.

Yeah, people in Michigan have MANY options for hockey during the lockout. There are two OHL teams in Michigan for Wings fans: nearby Plymouth and Saginaw (a bit further), and of course the Spitfires in Windsor, which is like...5 minutes from The Joe not counting the border stuff. Then they have multiple top level NCAA hockey teams, 2 USHL teams, 3 NAHL teams, ECHL in both K-Zoo and Toledo, and of course, an AHL team. Not to mention numerous lower junior level teams. Out here in Arizona? We have 1 CHL team. That's it

Filppula has signed with Jokerit in Finland's SM-Liiga and will join his brother Ilari on the team. mlive Meanwhile, in non-Wings news...I saw that Patrick Berglund is playing for Vasteras in the 2nd tier Swedish league Allsvenskan FOR FREE, while Ovie has signed with Dynamo in the KHL for $5.7 Million tax-free!!! puck daddy -
I didn't need to see this:

Wings to Europe: Tracking which DRW players are playing where

That is only until the AHL season starts. He talked about this in the press recently...just playing a few games for EV Zug and taking care of loose ends in Switzerland, and then playing with the Griffs this season until the lockout ends (if it ends). -
Yeah, thats true...I am looking forward to Brunner play for GR. He will only benefit from it, instead of jumping right to the NHL. It's rumored that NBCSN is working out a deal to air AHL games? Any truth to that?
-
Time to start watching AHL games. Look at this...the Oilers's farm team just got Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi, and Justin Schultz.....and Taylor Hall soon to follow when he gets off IR. Go OKC Oilers? LOL Kind of a shame that the Wings don't have any younger regulars.

Kane signs a 6 year deal with the Jets less than an hour before the deadline lol.
