Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill

Wow. What a slap in the face for Doan, who has been with the franchise his entire career. Hopefully he tells the Yotes to sign some more AHLers to replace him.
  2. I'm interested in who is even eligible for AHL play. If I'm not mistaken, its ages 22 and under, plus players with a two-way clause, and certain number of older players per team (I'm thinking its 4?). Who in the Wings system qualifies? Who are realistic candidates for filling the few veteran spots? Also, what notable players around the league qualify? One person I absolutely want to see stay and play in the AHL is Brunner. I'll be seriously disappointed if he spends the lockout in the Swiss League.

    Prospects Tournament Cancelled

Lockout? What lockout? The prospects tournament was cancelled because Holland sucks! We don't have any prospects left! He traded them all for old men! Blah blah blah!

    2012 Lockout Watch

Saw a tweet...I think this is great, but it also would mean a shortened season:

    Red Wings Alumni Showdown Roster

Ah....I got my email, but what is this? A misprint?

    2012 Lockout Watch

Of course. You don't think they've changed their minds since Bettman sold them the dream of thriving southern hockey teams?
  7. Lockout = Alumni game (including Yzerman) plus selected current players (Dats, Kronner, Jimmy, Z) at the Big House playing with generic sweaters. Maybe the old Detroit Falcons aren't under NHL trademark anymore. Is this even legally possible?

    Actions taken against Windsor Spitfires.

Wow, and everyone here on LGW wanted Bob Boughner on the Wings' coaching staff. Windsor Star sez:

    2012 Lockout Watch

The lockout might be a good thing. If we see contraction of weak markets due to no play in the 12-13 season, then there will be less of this BS. The only reason that the owners are being so unreasonable is due to the large number of non-hockey market owners on the board of governors, pushing for this nhl-style socialism/parity. I say let the lockout happen, and the "real" teams can have more of a voice, as they used to. That is the whole point of this, and I am surprised that I haven't seen much commentary about it in the media.

    2012 Lockout Watch

Damn it. Are you kidding me? Bettman and the owners (surely not Mr. I!!!) trying to play hardball with the NHLPA with only a month and some change left until the lockout hits on September 15th. I wasn't so concerned until I read The Globe and Mail tonight: The NHL will bounce back, but it will lose far too much. Some of the weaker teams might actually fold. Fans will abandon the league by the masses. Many european players will jump ship and go to the euro leagues. It took years for the NHL to recover from the last lockout....the owners are making a giant mistake. The article ends with what we should start expecting:

Semin signs one year, $7m deal with Carolina

Very disappointed that Holland couldn't pick up a 1 year deal like this. He needed to sign a scoring forward like Semin to free up other "assets" to trade for a d-man. Now that isn't happening...so off we go with our Swiss-Cheese Defense.
  12. Hey guys, I didn't see this on LGW anywhere, so I thought I'd let you know the sad news... From SBNATION:

Rick Nash traded to the New York Rangers

Yep, with Nash and Weber going East, the Eastern Conference only gets stronger. It is odd how the Western teams are willing to shoot the conference in the foot and trade star players to the East. This is a big shift from NCAA style conference loyalty. Do they not realize that there are a significant number of fans that will come to games just to see whatever big name is in town?
  14. Yep. They should build the new arena in Windsor, on the other side of the river. A WHOLE half-mile away. They're going to have 3 bridges and 2 tunnels, so whats the big deal? Work out some revenue-sharing deal with the city of Detroit and all the whining would cease.
  15. Odd, I didn't know that under the current CBA, you had to ask for permission before you presented an offer sheet lol.

    Patrick Kane at it again

I don't think a "US Court" is really necessary. Can't the Blackhawks organization, on their own, prohibit him from participating in any exhibitions and tournaments? Furthermore, can't they just start fining his ass (not money, but sit him) for embarrassing everyone? The attitude here is rather odd...everyone is saying "oh, he's a kid". No, he's an adult that makes millions of dollars playing NHL hockey while tons of kids watch. 10 years ago, everyone would have said that. Now, he's "just a kid". Stan Bowman sure isn't like his father. I can only imagine what Scotty would have done!
  17. I think the much of the Western states are becoming like that to a large degree. Arizona is exactly the same. You're more isolated and removed, somewhat, from the East which makes up 2/3rds of the population. Individualism is the name of the game out here, and crazy people have more room to develop into something dangerous, like we sadly keep seeing. Back on to hockey....I'm surprised that I don't see a statement from the Colorado Avalanche about all of this. They really stood with the community during the Columbine shootings.
  18. And if they don't what do they do about Pronger being stuck in LTIR limbo?
  19. Question....if the Flyers don't move anyone after getting Weber, and they have so little cap space...then Pronger will be unable to be re-activated for presumably the entire season, correct? Do you really think he wants that, or does he not really care about sitting on LTIR all season with the knowledge that he has no possibility of playing? I could see a player in a situation like that suddenly retiring, and then Philly would suddenly have a fire sale because they'd be ineligible to play the next game until they did (right?) lol. It is a little too risky for them to NOT dump some players during the offseason.
  20. Well, we certainly won't be running with the big dawgs this season...

    Homer

Two-way deal would be great. Then he can get called up when the PP stalls, like it always seems to for long stretches in the last few seasons. A valuable asset for sure.
  22. Great list! Except that the newest pick on there was SEVEN YEARS AGO

    Holland Content with Current Roster

I love this thread! Finally, some real lively debate on LGW, and in the middle of the summer, no less!!!
