This is a cap team folks.

On pace for 10 shots. Such a tough team to watch.

4 shots halfway through the game! Lord help us.

Our drafting has been lauded for years as being excellent. Onus is on you to prove a position opposite common wisdom.

Well then go poll the 29 other teams and see if on average, they have a much better hit rate than we do in the first picks over the last 10 years (obviously taking into account average draft position of the teams), otherwise I'm not sure what your point is.

I don't care if they were first round selections, my point was the team has a history of drafting well, or at least "average" at a minimum. No hockey analyst in the last 10 years has ever made a case that the Wings are very bad at drafting.

Ya Larkin was horrible. Tatar and Nyquist never turned into NHL players. Mantha is a complete bust. Man, we suck at drafting.

What do you mean "with our luck," we have a very strong draft record.

Don't worry, we'll likely suck next season as well.

I don't know. It may be premature to blame Blashill too much. I have been a consistent fan of Babcock, even putting him in the ranks of the greatest coaches of all time. No matter who you transition from after that is going to a be a disappointment, relatively speaking. Babcock had a way of getting far more out of his players than any other coach was able (I mean look at some of these rosters that he took to the playoffs despite dealing with tremendous injuries in his last few seasons here). So it may simply be a case of finally seeing our roster for who they really are, absent a coach who could create a system where the sum was MUCH greater than its parts.

This team is almost dead last in goals per game and pp%. We are not a 1D away from being decent.

It is this kind of thinking that will keep Holland's hands tied as the deadline approaches. Focus more on the teams play rather than the artificially compressed standings and you will realize just how bad this team is. Howard isn't going to maintain a 1.5 gaa all season and when he regresses to the mean, look out below.

By watching the games? I've watched the Wings for 25 years and I've watched every game this season. They overperformed their actual performance early in the season and they aren't nearly as good as their record reflects. I don't care how many points out of the playoffs they are right now, this team will not make it.

Might honestly be time for a GM change. I've been a Holland supporter but this team needs a fresh start from top to bottom and it starts with putting everyone on this roster on the trade block. Given Holland's track record in the trade department (or lack thereof), we really need to move in a different direction. I don't blame Holland for the Wings lack of success this season, its merely a function of being at the top for so long. But at this point, I'd say the odds of making the playoffs this season are near zero and I'd hate to have us stand pat and hang on to all of our players in the off chance that some miracle happens.

    Nice win

What Happens to the Defense Once Kronwall Returns?

Good to know we don't have to send anyone down when Kronwall returns. Will be interesting to see how Holland handles Jurco's return.

What Happens to the Defense Once Kronwall Returns?

I'm very concerned over what Holland will do when Kronwall returns. Sproul better not be removed and we better not waive anybody. Furthermore, AA better not be sent down to make room.

    Howard

Going to be tough to move him though even for teams with injuries as they have to have cap room once the injured player returns. Hopefully he has a really strong year playing 30-40 games and we can move him in the off-season.

1/14 GDT : Red Wings at Arizona Coyotes, 9:00 EST

There's no one to bench. All the D have played pretty well. E is the closest candidate to deserving to sit but even he's been okay.

    Jakub Kindl waived

We can't keep handing out stupid contracts to all this homegrown talent. Abby, Kindl, Ericsson,.... Let's hope Helm doesn't get a monster deal.

1/10 GDT : Red Wings at Anaheim Ducks, 8:00 EST

NO, you just have selective memory. Everyone should learn about human memory when it comes to negative events so I don't have to hear everyone whine about conspiracies against the Wings every time I come on this forum. LINK

So ridiculous if we have to send Marchy down. I hope Kenny finds a way to make a move and keep him rostered.
