That's not really fair, Sather is a terrible GM. $10 million for Gomez... --------------------------------------------------------------------- Both contracts finish as the players enter their primes. The difference is, Vermette is a huge steal for his, and Filppula is a little over-payed. Granted there are far worse contracts out there, but the only way Filppula is worthy of his contract is if his consistency improves. He's sometimes a $3 million player. I'm only hoping that, going into the season with a comfortable spot on the second line and good wingers, he shows us he deserves it. I'm reasonably confident he will, over the next couple of seasons.

Engaged, not married! You have to go break up the wedding and object at the last moment!

Sour grapes, 1997, game 4, 2nd period?

If he's scoring 50-60 goals, then no need for Hossa, let that guy walk and wait for the Art Ross trophies to come pouring in. By the way, Hossa is probably gone next season. There was no doubt about it when he first signed here, if you look back at that thread you'll see that everybody believed it. Now, suddenly it's coming as a big surprise to some people. It would be completely dumb to low-ball Filppula or neglect Franzen in hopes of signing a guy who expressed interest in a one year shot at the cup. To think that there might be enough money to keep Hossa is leaving too much to hope. Keep in mind that, while he's not quite worth it, he could be making as much as Crosby (or more), $8-9 million. To fit that in, Franzen would have to go, and even then it's pretty unlikely.

Poor Panthers. Why can't they ice a good team? Who in the world have they been drafting? Why did they trade Jokinen? Louongo?! Pay them whatever you have, offer to be their slave!
-
That quote implies that they signed Bouchard to get goal-scoring. Do they watch their own team's games? I know Minnesota games are boring, but...
-
Nearly every player on these teams has parents. There, somebody cares...
-
I hope the Rangers win it next year... or a Canadian team, I'm not picky.

There's $3.97 million left under the cap. He better fit under that!

Heatley, Spezza, and Alfredsson had a season where 2 got over 100 points, right? Just a couple of years ago. Hossa is about as good as Heatley (they were traded straight-up for each other), Datsyuk is a little better than Spezza, and Zetterberg is as good or better offensively than Alfredsson. Chara and Redden fed those guys, Lidstrom and Rafalski will feed Z, D, and H. You tell me which pairing is better.
-
Hudler is a solid player and I would have felt comfortable with him on the 2nd line if not for the Hossa signing.
-
He's rated one of the top goalie prospects in the minors at this point, and has been solid at the very least in his time in the NHL. I think he'll develop quite nicely. Unless he signs with Columbus... it was rumored that he was offered a deal, is this true?
-
So then I still have no idea why we was drafted in the 2nd round. I read it somewhere...

He wasn't good enough to play in Ottawa and his stats reflect that, but I do think race had a little to do with his going to Russia. Help me out here- I don't know anything about this guy other than seeing him play in a couple of games, and obviously you can't pull off the ghetto look in goalie pads. But if he bought into that side of black culture, more power to him. Other cultures tend to react badly to it, though. Outwardly, not so much, but I've seen black guys who get hassled for standing outside their apartment building, "Get a job!" and black students in my school who teachers tend to mistrust and mistreat right from the start. This is me trying to see it completely objectively. Especially in my school, I've seen this "beneath the surface" racism, or at least unfair treatment towards anyone who subscribes to black culture. Wearing baggy pants, baggy clothes, big chains, and whatever else will get you sent home immediately. They're harmless clothes, just like anyone else's. Somehow they "aren't conducive to a proper learning environment." If you don't think racism or contempt towards that culture exists up and down throughout our society, then you're probably just not paying attention to it. Nobody minds a black guy that "acts like a white guy." When a black guy talks differently or dresses differently, it's a problem. Sure Emery wasn't helping himself along the way, but his attitude got a lot more attention than Jagr's and some of the others'.

NHL wants Crosby as MVP, Lundqvist as Vezina, and Phaneuf as Norris! They like their kids and want to keep them hyped. But I don't think Phaneuf is close enough to Lidstrom yet to get it. We shall see. I'm done expecting Lidstrom to slow down... I think it will take a couple of weeks next season to get back on track, just like this past year, and then he'll be the same old (new) Lidstrom.

What does money matter to him at this point? How much money has he made with Toronto? I'm thinking he wants a cup more than $10 million a season.
-
Haven't known the Wings long enough for this game, but the look on Steve Yzerman's face after being beaten by the Oilers in the Twilight of his career, that will stick with me. I'd trade this year's cup for one then... :/
-
Well it clarified things for me. My hockey history needs brushed up now and again for these things. Thanks Russianswede.
-
Yzerman himself said it took a long time to get used to it, and he tended to defer to the older players.
-
The more I hear about the Cup, the less I think of it as something to be revered. It's more of a thing that you vent on for putting you through 98+ games of grueling hockey! They won it. If they want to give their kid a bath in the Cup or practice Judo on it, or like 55fan said in the case of Pronger, molest it with their mouth, well then I'm not going to complain about it. Funny story.
-
Nobody wants Yzerman's captaincy record to be broken, but since Crosby is on pace, nobody thinks about it too much anymore. Plus everybody seems to hate him. I think he handles himself pretty well, not sure what the big deal is.
-
I don't think so... they'll want the insurance. But obviously since they signed him for 1 year, they're pulling for Howard.
-
Not many choices, good move. I still think the veterans will make themselves heard in the locker room.

Looks like I cultivated the wrong skills as a kiddo.
