You know who else I don't like? Bryzgalov (sp? Give me credit for trying). He needs to learn how to lose gracefully, as in not punching Cleary in the face for swatting at the puck that was still in play. Should have been a penalty. Cleary got punched twice, slashed, then headlocked (three different players). No wonder his face is almost always bruised.

You misunderstood, I think. He was saying players don't hit Lemeiux. And in response to that, I say that he was huge, so few could knock him off his feet. Plus, if a defenseman tried to hit him, they would look like a fool as he deked them out of their skates. He was very dangerous. Nobody hits Datsyuk. Nobody hits Jagr. Well, he got lazy and pouty- an easy target.

Now this I don't get. Crosby comes attached with a massive hype machine, but he is still a great player, is not full of himself, and- come on- he's a kid. The only thing that would make him redeemable in your book would be saying, "No, no, it's all my teams doing, and the fans, thank you mom and dad, I did none of this, all 100 (?) goals and 200 (?) assists have been sheer luck, thank you everybody for accepting me." Then I ask myself, if Zetterberg were the great savior, rookie phenom, hype machine, how would he react? He would be insufferable. Thank god he's European and gets no hype. Now he can actually play. Crosby is handling himself fine and is a franchise player to boot. He has never cheap-shotted a Red Wing, and he has never decisively swung a game in favor of Pittsburg against us. Also, he was being hit and penalized unfairly in his first season, so the whining was exactly how most rookies would react. Is nobody else in the league more worthy of contempt? Look around a little.

I will go out on a limb and say Samuelsson is the problem. He makes no effective plays. He doesn't control the puck, he doesn't work along the boards, he has no idea where he's passing, he turns the puck over... his shot is worse than ever. Hurry up, Brunnstrom! Or McCarty.

Dats has got to score soon...

In the next month alone, there are fully 2 teams that are not difficult (considering that Boston is a decent defensive team). Besides, I am not confident that he will play all 29 games. I don't think he will do it. Maybe next year if he stays out of the corners and that line plays full-time with Cleary.

That's why this guy gets the nod in my sig. Wait, what happened to my sig? Well it's supposed to be Dats, anyway.

Somehow, better than the detroitredwings.com site. They must have sunk $15-$20 total into that thing.

At some point you have to see that, no matter who is playing better and no matter who has more history, Hasek came back to this team to go to the playoffs and to win the cup. I firmly believe he will get better throughout the year, like Babcock says. That's just how older players are. You just can't snub him like that, because he would not understand, like Ozzie would. On the other hand, Ozzie just stole his second game of the season (and how) on a team that never needs a game stolen for them. He has been spectacular all year. He has come through against the big, bad teams. This is the best Ozzie will ever be. If he played 60+ games this season, he would win the Vezina, but given the circumstances, he will play 35-40 and wont be awarded. Therefore, rotate. It will be better for them as that is what the season has prepared them for. Oh, and one comment on Hasek. If his snow angel saves are luck, then you need to lace up the skates. Try putting the puck top shelf with an inch and a half to work with. I can think of two players that can do it off the top of my head, Crosby and St. Louis. Every one of Hasek's moves are calculated, every one of his blind saves are predictable at this point. How often do players score on the rebound against Hasek? It can't be done. It has to be a floater from the top of the circle if it's going past him.

Being back by trade deadline is quite a bit to ask for. 20 points is also quite a bit to ask for. Remember when Bertuzzi got here? His total points projected over the whole season since he got here could not be much higher than 20. And he's an offensive player. McCarty is a grinder.

Anything new? Everybody wants this kid to pan out.

I had no idea about the substance abuse problems. Now I'm pulling for him even more!

It was also sarcastic, I think.

I don't think it's any secret that this guy is coveted, and it's even less of a secret that the Wings are Swedes up and down the lineup.
-
Wings scouting, you've done it again!
-
"End-to-end, he does it again!"

These people don't just have solid jobs... they have homes, family(s), history, and are content. If Stevie Y GMed another team, that would be my second favorite team.

And they lost, to Washington, the next night.

The way I see it, if you add two first-liners, only one of them is going to be successful. I knew this when NYR acquired Gomez & Drury (although I assumed Drury would be the successful one), and it is no less true in this case. In Vancouver, Sundin would be successful and Forsberg less so, in part due to his injuries and also because his playing style is different.

"Scout-savvy Red Wings are still flying high and mighty"
Earthhuman replied to RedStormRising's topic in General
I think I've earned it. -
Are we that high and mighty?
-
Datsyuk and Chelios being exceptions, that's basically the order in which they became Wings. I like your style.

Here we have it: Yzerman Lidstrom Datsyuk Osgood Kronvall Filppula Zetterberg (trying to detach myself, in case he retires before 30) Hudler Cleary Rafalski Holmstrom Chelios Draper Downey Franzen Kopecky Lilja Samuelsson Maltby Drake I didn't rank Hasek, as he can range anywhere from 2nd to last, depending on his last game or two.
