Just how many 6th defensemen in the league do you know of that racks up between 30-35 points? He's not on the powerplay, which is the defenseman moneymaker. He must be playing about 10 minutes a night, he does not cost us games, and he is paid-what?- minimum wage? What a great acquisition by Detroit (he went undrafted). EDIT: Sammy is a whole different story. He is the very definition of ineffective- the one thing he does is gets over the blueline. His impotency is even more pronounced lately than usual.

That's the world of sports for you. Florida already has Horton, a legit power forward, so they may end up trading Matthias. To us- no, but that does mean that he will probably end up in the western conference, since Florida wont want to play him often, either. From there, it's a 33% chance that he ends up in the Central. All in all, I'd call it about a 15-20% chance that we play him eight times a year in the future.

Holmstrom should have an easy time in front of the net since their defense is barely functioning. A screen in front means easier shots to beat Loungo, more rebounds, and more deflections. Hopefully, Cleary pulls the trigger, too.

I don't think we need Hossa. If we can trade for Drury and Gomez for Lilja and a 2nd, then pick up Enstrom off Atlanta for Ryno and a 7th, then aquire Loungo for Howard, then sign Sutton and McCarty off free-agency, and aquire Halpern and Ott for Downey, and then get Lucic for $1, we will be hard to beat. But, oh wait, this is real life. So how about Zetterberg for Hossa? Anybody? Rafalski, a first, and a prospect? Face it, we're not in the running. We have plenty of allstars.

If nobody has nabbed him yet, you better get there fast. He is ranked 10th in defenseman scoring, 10 goals and 25 points. He's a +2, has 40 PIMs, and plays 24 minutes a game.

He's not going to the Rangers- Lundqvist is Lundqvist, Valiquette has been solid as a backup should be, or better. They have Montoya in the minors, and he is NHL-ready. None of their goalies have injury histories, and Lundqvist has had zero problems shouldering the load of 70-75 games.

I don't think those things matter as much. Listen, we all want him to pull through and replace Rafalski eventually, with Kronvall replacing Lidstrom, Lebda replacing Chelios, etc., but it doesn't always work out perfectly. Still, I say give the kid some time to get used to it. We're not in any hurry to get prospects up to the NHL. Also, I think killing penalties does affect +/-, where you get a minus if you're killing, but not a plus if you score. Rules may have changed though.

No major awards... I think if he gets to play more than 41 games this season, he could have a Vezina. And a Jennings for sure.

Can't wait! And rangers are thus far beating the flyers 2-0 early. Very intense game... if the Wings game is slow, which is likely with Minnesota, this game might deserve a look. It has a playoff feel.

Not saying it makes us feel like there is control; we need that, cause we want the Wings to win so bad and have no control over the outcome. I don't believe it either, but there's no point in trying to make people feel foolish. That's a bad way to make friends.

Defense in the East is pretty weak, except ironically in Ottawa. I'd like to see their top line play against a competant duo.

Good move Ozzie. I guess he likes Zetterberg playing in front of him. Right now, he's a $4-5 million goalie, and over the next three years probably about $3.5 million. What a great deal.

Or an old, washed up player. Toronto absolutely loves them. Maltby, a 10th (reminding that players such as Hasek have been found in the 10th round), and you can call it a deal. And if they STILL wont cave... throw in Lilja or Samuelsson. BUT NOT BOTH.
