I wonder why Pavelski didn't take his helmet off... if you're going to fight, seems to me you should at least get rid of the visor. Maybe I wasn't watching closely enough and I missed something?

John Tortorella suspended 1 game for game 5 antics
Earthhuman replied to XxGoWingsxX's topic in General
According to the NHL Constitution, he should have gotten the security personnel to handle it and eject the fans. Well, nhl.com says that, in fact, he did contact the security personnel and they obviously didn't handle it. I think a coach should be able to throw a water bottle at a fan. I'm a good person, but some fans are pissing drunk jackasses and need to be kept in check. -
This thread should be a Hasek Watch. If anyone can find info on how he's playing, they could post it here.

When Detroit lost to Edmonton, guess who was playing the trap... When they lost to Anaheim, guess how unfair the penalties were... This isn't something whiny coaches do; this is something hockey players and hockey fans do when they see their team slipping out of the playoffs. Give them a break.

Wings need to slow things down so Ozzy doesn't get tired too quickly.
-
Sure people will comment on it, doesn't mean it's any of their business. It doesn't mean a public figure deserves it.

"He's the game's most dominant scorer, but to do that, especially on our ice, I took it as an insult," Lightning wing Ryan Malone told the Tampa Tribune. "It's embarrassing. This isn't football." XD I thought it was pretty funny, taking into consideration that it wasn't his idea in the first place, and he does it in part to annoy Cherry and the rest.

It's my personal opinion that the minutiae of his life should be available to the public. It's our business. Damn, what kid needs $5mil for a decade? Better yet, which five kids need that much for a decade.

No for a lot of reasons: 1) Can't trade Hossa. 2) Vancouver might not make the playoffs, and they would only be acquiring Hossa for a couple of months. They would never take the trade. 3) I trust in Osgood, think he is still a valuable, he is much cheaper, and his attitude is better than Luongo's. 4) Hossa signed here for one year to win a cup for a fair price. It would ruin the Red Wings' reputation, and deals like this would not just fall into their laps in the future.

They might be tired since it's later in the season, but I doubt that. If it keeps up, you could be on to something. It's just a coincidence at this point, though.

Jpd we're going to need details.

Who is the most improved Red Wing from last season?
Earthhuman replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
Can I say Franzen? Lower-line players are usually much better in the playoffs, but Franzen has carried that through to this year and been excellent when healthy. It was his improvement and Hudler's that has made the Red Wings look so deep, but I don't think anybody was expecting Franzen to score so often. -
The Red Wings are easy to like because they're professional and rarely embarrasing. I like seeing them on the front of NHL.com for wins rather than suspensions.

I don't like the way Cleary landed on Thornton, elbow up if I recall correctly (not on the hit, but on the follow-through). It was a bit too feisty, and in my opinion that's what caused Thornton to try to sell it. Afterwards Thornton had a terrible game: -1, 2 bad penalties, and I'm not sure how he was on faceoffs but I know it was low!
-
I'm going to be a negative-nancy and say he's probably out for awhile, hopefully back for playoffs. Injuries always start as "precautionary," then "day-to-day," and it goes from there.

Phaneuf, not to mention Chara.

Right, bring back the east-west Czech team! You're right about needing a system, though. Gomez should be making much more of his speed, yet I always seem him going into the zone alone, realizing there are three guys on him, and dumping on net.

I think highly of Ovechkin, and don't really have an opinion of Crosby, but I don't think either of them handled it well. They don't seem much like men to me. Personally, I've been wishing lately that Ovechkin would tone it down a bit, in particular after his goal against Carey Price. You would think he had deked a row of can-can dancers the way he acted amazed with himself. And then the taunting of Crosby- the wave was funny, but beyond that I wish he would have just sat down.
-
Let that be a lesson to greedy players.
-
Interestingly, I saw his stats today and realized he may never reach 500 goals. It would be a real shame, but if he doesn't then he has no one to blame but himself. He shouldn't have sat out most of 1998 over something dumb like a contract dispute. He would be very close or past 500 goals at this point. He's still a solid player though, I don't think anybody would argue against that.
-
Yup, about that obnoxious.

The thing is, Detroit has had players that have actually been franchise players. Not so with some teams that feel the need to retire SOMEONE, like the Devils or Canucks. It does not take much for some teams, but Detroit has history and superstars.
-
Looks like LiddyGibby was just about right on the money. Not for goals, but for points. And his +/- will be closer to -3 than -17.
-
I know I could leave this and somebody else would argue with you, but: http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm Select just Washington players; they have 4 very solid players on that team.
