Funny how Kenny has been harping on about we only need help on the backend yet all we have been conected with today is Kesler and Legwand!

Official 2014 NHL Trade Deadline Thread

i got a gut feeling that the Edler, Erhoff talk is a smoke screen and we are after Tyler Myers. Granted he is having a bad year but he is a young big R/H who can eat up 20+ mins. The big thing is although only 24 he has over 300 games under his belt. Maybe a change of surroundings is what he needs. What we'd have to give up? But whatever it is it'll be too high for Kenny!

    Canadians may be shopping Subban...

if its upto Babs then he stays in Montreal just like Babs had him stay in the press box during the Olympics.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Quincey on our third pairing i have no problem with, his numbers with us are not in a top 4 guys production which is what Kenny signed him for. He has decent numbers everyteam he's been on except the Wings!

    Question about Mantha

i saw Lefebvre play here in the UK back in the 90's the guy was awesome. Had a great set of hands great wheels but he was about 5'6" so i guess he wasup against. But he did something that not alot of players have done, he played in the NHL after playing in the British league.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

The most intriguing fact about one of our prospects is this. Big bad MM at western michigan uni has been turned into a LW. Maybe the higher brass feels he'd never crack the Wings D but could become a useful 4th liner and his size and grit alone warrants not giving up on him altogether. As such have told Andy Murray to try and change his role. If he does come good he'll be the guy keeping the flies off of the Nyquist, tatar, Jurco, mantha, Pulk and co's.

    ESPN says....

i think you need to evaluate the situations. Kesler was a first round pick that had 23 points in his first full 82 game season which was his second stint in the league the same as Tatar, who to date in his first full season has 26 points in 51 games. Kesler has had 2 seasons when he hit over 70 points the rest of his career he hasnt topped 60 points. If we could come back in 9 years i would wager that Tatar will have had a similar if not better career than Kesler. I would suggest you are under-valuing Tatar if anything.

    ESPN says....

Tatar is 23 and Kesler 29 i get the fact that Kesler is a vet and has points on the board but give up Tats for him? I wouldnt and the reason for this is simple, come back to this in 6 years time when Tatar is 29 and compare the stats of both players if Kesler is still playing. Kesler has 2-4 years max at his current level. We are going to get 10+ years from Tomas, and he has only scratched the surface of his abilities.

so Myers cap hit is $5.5m ? for another 5 years. So he's 24, put him in a position at Detroit where he isnt your top pairing guy he could be a steal be the end of that contract. he is a R/H as well. He's the highest paid D on the Sabres roster and also the youngest, maybe he's feeling he has to live up to his wagebill. Here's and idea, Myers & Tallinder for Quincey, Kindl, McCollum and Almqvist.

    Question about Mantha

Im just thinking of the re-incarnation of the 2 kids and a goat line. Mantha Pav and Jurco ?!

    Question about Mantha

I liken Mantha to Valeri Nichuskin. He was drafted at #10 when Mantha went at #20. When you look at Nichuskin's stats before he came to the show it doesn't really reveal that he would be as good as he has been for Dallas. I know the Wings like to have their prospects learn how to be a pro and such, but every now and then you get a player that you should just through in and let play. Dallas has done that with Valeri and his 29 points in 56 games with a +17 to boot has repayed their faith they had in him. I feel that we have a talent in Mantha that we should do the same with him next year.

The whispers we're getting over here in euro land is that the wings have scouts looking at the young Russian's Nikita Tryamkin and Fyodor Malykin. Malykin's name has cropped up before, solid young centre 5'11" 198lb but i think he has 2 years left on his KHL contract. Good skater by all accounts and plays hard. I watched Tryamkin in the world jnrs and he is a big unit, steady in his own end with potential upside to produce on offence. Has played over 70 games in the K and only 19yr old. Both of these guys hail from the same area as Pav, so you never know. Tryamkin hasnt been drafted and i think is still eligible for this year's draft, and have i said he is big, 6'7" 229lb and growing ! Both play for KHL side Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.

I'm sure Teemu was voted as the most skillfull player at the prospect's camp and that his hockey smarts where well above anyone else there. Lets not forget that he has played for 3 full season's in the Finnish Liiga and he leads the Griffs in points this year in his first full year in the AHL. He has played mens league hockey since he was 18, 4 years, its not like he has spent all those early years in jnr leagues raking the points up. 5'10" maybe on the short side, but he is solid at 200LB. If we compare him to our previous Finns, his Liiga record is better than Filppula and the same as Leino. At the AHL level he has a better output than Leino but is behind Filppula. I would say that Ville and Val are both more of playmakers, but Teemu has good playmaking skills but what sets him apart in my eyes is his scoring ability. We all got to breaking screaming at Flip to shot more, we want have that worry with Teemu.

I'd like to see this on the PP and 3rd line next year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvKdNw13Z8c

    Franzen for edler?

Tallinder for draft pick and prospect, thats the only deal i see Kenny doing. He'll let the UFA's contract we have run out and be in a position to do some dealing in the off season.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Both Kesler and Edler are on $5m per year contracts, so we'd have to send back similar types or not far off. possably sending 3 or 4 but who would you gladly lose that the Nucks would want? I dont see us getting both maybe one but not both. I think if Kenny makes a move it'll be Tallinder for a prospect/picks or just picks.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

i don't know why we are even discussing trades, as we all know there's more chance of me playing on the 1st line next season than there is of Kenny making any move that involves us getting a top rated player in any deal this deadline.

one thing is for certain after this Olyimpics. The redwings will not be persuing the RFA that is PK Subban, think he only played in one game obviously Babs dont rate him !

add Z Backstrom and Sedin and the game would be different. in the end the Swedish D is a poor 2 to the Nucks blueline corps.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I never said Grabner was available. I'm saying given the choice Id take him over Vanek. He's 4 years younger has a another 2 years on a $3m a year contract which is over $4m a year less than Vanek is on and will want. He is being way miss-used by the Isle's. He has a great set of wheels with elite level speed, plus a good goalscorer in a scoring role. I just feel you'd get more for your $ by getting Grabner in a trade and using him to compliment his skill set than you will by signing Vanek as a UFA, at the $7m+ he is going to demand. Just my opinion thats all no suggestion thats what the Wings should do.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

If anyone saw Austria in the Olympics you'd have to say no to Vanek but a big yes to Grabner!

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I agree, i just dont see us getting one in before the deadline. Ive just put what i thought would happen this deadline, and as far as i can see Kenny wont be doing any more than that.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Tallinder in as a stop gap vet presence on the D. Quincey out to Boston/whoever have actually inquired about him. All depends on how Pav is and if Z is out for the season, which i feel he may be. Weiss due back and will get the chance to C the 2nd line for remainder of the year, Cleary and Bert will get a reprieve because of the 4 player movement rule after the deadline. I dont see kenny doing more than that. This summer is where he will make the big changes. Who ? the best D available hopefully.
