    DeKeyser files for arbitration...

Am I the only one that thinks north of $5M for him is outrageous? Not saying it wouldn't happen, I just think it's crazy money for him.

    Hall of Fame Worthy

Kickazz...Datsyuk and Zetterberg were not top 10 scorers for a decade. Each of them finished top 10 only 2 times in their careers. Datsyuk finishing 4th twice and Z finishing 9th and 8th. That said, I do think Datsyuk has a good chance at the HOF due to Selke's....point totals are low though. Guy Carbaneau (sp?) has the Selke's and decent point totals, but not enough and he hasn't gotten in so far.

    Brad Richards Retires

My opinion, as already stated is that Richards doesn't belong in the HOF....Datsyuk has a better chance, but I'm not totally sold on that either, the heart says yes, but if it was someone else, I'd probably argue why not. I'll be honest, when it comes to forwards, my minimum requirement is usually at least 1pt per game. I know there are several in below that threshold though. I think being close to that threshold + the 3 selkes and cups will give him a good chance. I don't like the cups argument at all (team sport more than most other professional sporting leagues), but it does factor into the thinking.
  4. Yzerman won a Pearson, but he would have obviously been there regardless of that.....he's the Alex D example and then some

    Fans rank front offices....Wings 21st

It's probably a relatively fair assessment, but at the same time, this is the result of polling fans and only 200 of them, so the results don't really mean that much.
  6. Well, with Datsyuk, he'd first need to get into the HOF as that woudl be the minimum criteria if you look at all the others retired by this org. Also, if you look at the rest, they all have the following: - Hart, Pearson, Art Ross for forwards - Norris for defense - Vezina for goalie The only guy that doesn't fit that criteria is Alex D....but what he has going for him is 22 full years with the team and parts of 2 others, 450+ goals and almost 1,300pts. Right now, Fedorov is really the only one that would seem to fit in the most. The downside of course is his departure, etc, otherwise, I think he'd be automatic. I can see the argument for Datsyuk, but it would certainly stick out as being different from the rest. He did play his whole career here, so that's a plus.

    Tyler Bertuzzi goal.. Savage lol

Maybe Canadian in everyday life, but not when it comes to hockey.

    Brad Richards Retires

HOF? I don't think there's any chance at all. That's not to say he wasn't a great player, because he was, I just don't think HOF worthy. Now, that could be my view of HOF worthy though, or what I think it should be. I know there are more guys in there already than I'd like...should be a bit more exclusive. I saw a comment above regarding only having played 15 seasons....I must say, that's the first time I've even seen a 15 year career as being referred to as "only" 15 years is pretty significant. Point of reference? Datsyuk played 14 seasons. Compare it to the average (around 5).
  9. I don't think so, he played a year in Anahiem and they traded him to Columbus...that's the trade being referenced I'd bet. He was never traded to Anahiem. Edit...ha sorry, Anahiem instead of SJ...missed that one

Shea Weber for Pernal Karl Subban

Here's my view....if you start the discussion on Dmen by pulling a bunch of stats, that's where the discussion stops for me. If you want to assess a winger vs. another winger, stats are more meaningful, less meaningful when you get to centers, but still meaningful....get even less when you get to Dmen. Team Canada knows what they are doing, they have a lot of smart hockey minds making decisions and Weber tends to be one of, if not their 1st pick and Subban tends not to even make the team. Not saying that end the discussion, but there is a reason for that.

Hall for Larsson - Oilers and Devils swap players

Maybe Edm could have gotten Subban or Weber for Hall, but that would be an issue for them as well...they can't really take on that kind of a cap hit, knowing McDavid is going to take up a big chunk soon. The fact is, Hall shoudl have gotten more, but every other team knows Edm was desperate and they weren't going to get more. Also, Edm is overflowing with high end forwards, so while it looks bad, probably won't hurt that much.

Shea Weber for Pernal Karl Subban

Personally, I'd rather have Weber (maybe not 5 years from now, but who knows)....+ his cap hit is $1.2/year lower (I understand there are a lot of years left on it though.

    Stamkos to... Tampa

While some think Stamkos left money on the table by not going to free agency, I don't think that's the case at all. Apparently Buffalo was willing to offer the most at $11M per year, which looks like a lot a lot more, but then you have to consider they can only offer 7 years, then you are comparing $77M to $68M. After you consider the tax situation, I'm sure that takes care of the other $9M and then some.

Guys like Burns the most important in the league? SJ certainly didn't want to have anything to do with him being out against Crosby in the finals. Love to have a guy like Burns on the team, but not sure I'd call him the most important

    Stamkos to... Tampa

While sign and trade is still a possibility, highly unlikely as such a deal would have probably been announced concurrently.

Lindros, Makarov, Vachon, Quinn going to the Hall

PVD...Makarov was not amount the league's highest producers for the first 2-3 years or ever. Those years, he was 4th or 5th on his team in scoring, the highest he ever finished from a league perspective was 28th. This is why a lot may not think of him much. I admit to not seeing a lot of him and never thinking of him when I was a kid, but I know enough now to understand he was one of the best back in the 80s. It was entirely due to his Russian experience though, not NHL, that's why people don't think of him much. Larionov is very similar that way, his stats in the NHL were not that great, his accomplishments were more international (Markarov's were better in that respect).

Lindros, Makarov, Vachon, Quinn going to the Hall

Vachon is certainly a head scratcher. I know of him, but have never seen him play....which usually means he was pretty good, otherwise, why would I have heard of him? It is difficult to compare goalie stats from his day to more recent years though. On the radio today, the discussion on Vachon came up and they didn't think he really had HOF type credentials, guys like Andy Moog were brought up...again, someone that doesn't really jump out as HOF worthy (Curtis Joseph, Chris Osgood, etc.).

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

My only concern in all of this is leaving before the end of the contract. When he signed, he knew if he left before the end of the deal, the team would still be stuck with the cap hit (I know they got around it by trading him, but that's not the point). If he was going to leave after 2 years, why did he sign a 3 year deal....he actually pushed for a 5 year deal. That's the part that bothers me, why didn't he take the Lidstrom route? I'm guessing there are stronger reasons than we are aware of that came up recently drawing him back to Russia, but not sure about that. I'm not going to hate on the guy over this, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't matter the way he left. Edit: maybe he spoke with Holland and was assured the team would have no problem trading the contract, etc. before he made his final decision. That being the case, I'd have a totally different view, but if that was the case, I'm sure we'd know about it.

Drew Miller re-signs... 1 year deal $1.025 million

Well, D and Z didn't play much on the PK after Lidstrom retired, but I'm sure it's more a function of them getting older than not having a strong D to back them up. 12/13 - D and Z were 3rd and 4th respectively on the team (forwards only) in PK time at 67 and 62 min for the year...leaders are normally around 250-300 min, but this was the shortened lockout year 13/14 - D and Z were 7th and 10th respectively at 32 and 24 min 14/15 - D and Z were 8th and 7th respectively at 6 min each 15/16 - D and Z were 12th and 11th respectively at 5 and 7 min So, they played a bit as second pairing guys in the 12/13 season, but not much of anything after that.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

Healthy ankle or not, I wouldn't hold out hope of him coming back later, 1) it's not going to happen, 2) he'll be that much older and father time has an unbeaten record. While his was never the quickest player, he still needed enough quickness to be effective....that simply declines over time, as well as stickhandling and reflexes. Some players are built to play longer while others are not....can be simply based on the player themselves, but there's also a lot to the type of game the player has played. Take Jagr for example....he's a big guy, lots of reach, wasn't good because of his speed, he was good because of his size and skill (rare combination). Again, while speed wasn't the most important, slow foot speed hurts everyone. He's not great 5 on 5 anymore and certainly isn't very effective in playoffs anymore. Could Datysuk still be effective in certain situations? Sure, but too much to expect he'll be able to play an all around game....but again, the most important thing to remember is....there's no chance of him coming back, so no point worrying about it

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

To me, it would be totally different if he was retiring from hockey, but's he's not. Ankle is obviously fine...he's going to continue playing. His ankle has ZERO to do with this.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

I said it before, but I'll say it again, I can't help but be bothered by the fact he isn't playing out the contract. I suspect it will actually end up helping the team as they'll probably get out of this and be able to use the cap space, but we're not there yet...should have been easier.
