3 games based on what? I know there are some PIT fans losing their minds he is suspended at all, pointing to similar hits their players have taken in this series alone and calling for Ovechkin to get suspended the next time he does something similar (which they say happens almost every game). So, they are obviously biased, but do have a small point. The rationale in the video was weird...no illegal contact with head, etc....explanation boils down to suspension due to interference...which is why some of them are losing their minds. Honestly, I would have been fine with no suspension, but prefer a suspension as a point of ensuring people get the message...consistency is the main point I look for. 3 games for that would have been grossly inconsistent with past rulings, including one just a few days ago (Orpik).

Suspended 1 game......pretty much in line with what most were thinking.

Not nearly as bad as the Orpik hit and no injury on the play, but he probably deserves a game suspension, which will be a huge blow to the pens (much more so than the Caps losing Orpik). Letang has been playing 30 minutes a night (35 in game 2 I think).

After watching the video, I'm trying to figure out why it's only 3 games. It had all the ingredients for a massive suspension. Repeat offender, head shot, injury and super late. The head scratcher for me is that the video focused almost solely on it being late and really played down the head contact. There was a comment thrown in that there was significant head contact, but it looked more like principal point of contract to me. Perhaps if this was regular season, he would have gotten 10+? I know there are a lot of people that think a suspension should be a suspension and number of games shouldn't be determined differently for reg season and playoffs, I'm not fully on that side though. 3 games seems somewhat light, but not enough to complain about I guess. What's interesting, as mentioned earlier, is how he only got a 2min interference penalty. He got a penalty, so the refs didn't miss the play. I really do hope the ref didn't chicken out of giving him a major and game misconduct and settled with minor. I hope the ref only barely saw it and figured it was an easy interference call because if he saw the full play, I'd be pissed that the ref is incompetent. I know they want to let the teams play, but if you see something like this and let it go, recipe for disaster. -

Wow, Washington ties it on the PP after what has to be one of the worst calls I have ever seen. -

I think those tablets are on every bench in every arena. Probably to help them determine if they want to challenge a play or not. -

Can't believe Orpik only got a 2min interference penalty....obviously the refs didn't miss it and he'll likely end up with a suspension, would be a long one in the regular season. It's been 12 min since Washington's last shot on goal...and counting -

Gotta wonder if there would have been enough evidence to call it a goal if the call on the ice was no goal though. I know there appeared to be white ice, the only angle I saw it from wasn't good enough in my mind. I'm guessing it wouldn't have been a goal...only reason I guess that is because it took so long to review. Announcers on CBC were dead on leading into OT though...they all assumed the winning goal would likely be a strange one. -

Another problem in scheduling in my mind...you have the best 2 teams in the East playing in the 2nd round while the 5th and 6th best play each other -
Yes, I think that's their normal #1 unit. I think Kessel was moved to #2 for part of the year though.
-
I predict that Crosby and Malkin don't play an awful lot during the 3rd. I do feel a bit for Lundquist as well, NYR fans probably all over him, but there's not many of those goals he had much of a chance on.

6-2 now...it looks like PIT is getting a scoring chance every shift or 2 now

Hockeytownmom....it's not going to STL, it's going back to Chicago for game 6...if pushed to 7, that will be in STL -

By the way, I'm not sure why Chicago being on the brink of elimination should really be a big story either....STL is the better team after all. Although, in my mind, it should be a bit of story that these two teams are matched up in round 1 though. -
I don't know, Rangers seemed like they had a very good chance from game 2 and through half of game 3....Lundqvist (sp?) looked to be pretty solid and we all know what can happen if you have a strong goalie in the playoffs. I'm not sure how original six teams impact ratings. Do most fans in the US (particular south) even identify with the original six? If Toronto and Montreal were still in it, would the US care?

Guys, this is 2016, it doesn't belong in the game anymore. I've heard from guys that have played in the NHL 10-15 years ago who used to talk like that all the time in games, but they agree it no longer has a place and needs to be gone. I'm like most and get annoyed with the super PC sensitive stuff, but this is really over the line. Plopstar...guys have been fined or suspended before for giving the middle finger -
Interesting stat after last night....Pittsburgh is the first team in NHL history to have 2 goalies get their first wins (debut games) in the playoffs, in the same series. Unfortunate series of events that allowed that to happen of course.

Why reference another "stupid offside challenge" gets a goal called back?? What's stupid about it? Would you prefer a goal to stand even though the play was offside? I don't get the thought process. -

Well, STL did finish 3rd overall in the league, so not too surprising. -
No, doesn't make it interesting all, makes it ridiculous. Why give a weaker team a better chance because two stronger teams go against each other and have one knocked out early?

Tampa radio host's harsh words for DET fans/players

I listen to AM radio way more than FM...that's where I get my sports radio. -
I think they should re-think how teams get matched up in the playoffs. In the east, there were 5 teams with more than 100pts and 4 of them are playing each other, so guarantee to have 2 of them gone after round 1 (PIT vs NYR) the worst of that. You have 2 - 90pt teams playing each other. In the west you have the 3rd and 5th place teams in the entire league playing each other (CHI-STL)...while I understand how the matchups are determined, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Blues' fans are thinking they were robbed in game 2 and should be up 3-0 now. -
Maybe the harsh comments here are a bit much, but it's more sarcasm. Honestly, it's not that much of an impact, he'd easily be replaced by someone else. What's really bad is what a lot of Pens' fans are saying right not. They are thinking about whether they'd be better off trading Malkin, suggesting they play better without him. There is some recent validity to that, but I think it's more of a streak thing they had going at the end of the year while he was out and they are reacting to the loss they took in his first game back. He plays a different style than what the team has been playing lately though (but I think that's a good thing if you can play too different styles throughout the game...throw people off).

Nope, highlights this morning didn't provide any further details. They are off until Saturday though I think, so no rush reporting on anything
