My simple thought on Dahlin is "caution." It is very hard to extrapolate a player's potential at 18 years old....it is even more difficult (much more difficult) to do so with a defenseman.

Good question....I guess it depends on how you define "better player" - I probably looked at it too much as potential and "at their best" - I think Fedorov at his best, with all his skill, would be better. However, Yzerman had the better career in my opinion.

I think you are a year off....when he got hurt, he was already 30 and in 2005, he was 38. Stevens didn't hit +60, but he did hit +53 a couple years before Vladdy's +60 and he hit +40 later on (a mark Vladdy never got to beyond his +60). On average, I think both are fairly similar when you think +/-, but I won't go down the road of the relevance of the +/- stat.

I always find it funny when Americans discuss Canadian accents. Personally, in my entire life, I have never heard anyone say "aboot" other than an American pretending to speak like a Canadian. Not saying no one says it, but it's clearly not that common. My biggest source of confusion is why Americans even think there is a Canadian accent. Fact is, there are several different accents throughout the country depending on the part of the country you live....very same thing can be said of the US, except the US is more drastic in my mind regarding different accents.

I think a 3rd liner is far below what most Wings fans have hoped for him though.

What goalie was the better choice is tough as they all looked pretty bad. Just going by stats, all had relatively similar SV% numbers, which is the main stat I used....still a flawed stat, but the least flawed stat when looking at goalies Elliott - 4.74 GAA, .856 SV% Neuvirth - 4.40 GAA, .847 SV% Mrazek - 3.87 GAA, .857 SV% Yeah, 5 goals, 9 points in 5 games. No one else on the team had more than 3 points.

I'm can't say for sure, but I don't think this is true. I thought there were legal agreements in place between the NHL and the KHL regarding this type of thing. At the end of the day, technically, if he bailed on his contract, it wasn't with the Wings, it was with the Coyotes.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't see how both obeyed the law or parameters of their contractual obligations with the Wings. Fedorov was a free agent and left....there is no ambiguity there, bad blood, yes, but no contractual concerns. Datsyuk left with term on his contract to play in a different league. I'm guessing this is contrary to his contractual obligations. I'm not sure what "law" would say, but I'm guessing the Wings could have blocked him from being able to play in the KHL if they chose to exercise that option.

Actually, that's when I tuned in...they were playing 4 on 4....took a penalty, PIT scored and then scored 5 seconds later after they went back to 4 on 4. PIT scored another PP goal apparently.....4 min earlier based on box score.

Totally forgot about PHI vs PIT game this afternoon. Just tuned in half way through....so, not sure what's transpired so far, but fans are super upset with a penalty call which I can't figure out....wondering if there is more to it from earlier in the game or just PHI fans being PHI fans. The PHI player basically hooked a PIT player....not a normal hook though, he hooked his mouth.....drew blood. PHI actually benefited here as they didn't call a high stick 4 min penalty, they just called it a hook.

I wonder if PIT would like to have Fleury back....shots 30-17 and down 4-1.

I have no issues with Datsyuk leaving before the end of his contract, that's fine, but only if he's retiring, not to go play hockey somewhere else. Fedorov had his contract issues for sure, but he left the Wings after the end of the his contract.

Huh? Pens and Caps in round 2 last year was stupid in my mind.....I think they were the top 2 teams in the east....meeting so early. I'm sure the Pens would have loved to not face the President's trophy winners.

Anyone catch his goal last night (1 of 2 on the night). He dumped the puck in.....goalie (Cam Ward I believe) went to stop the puck behind the net.....after which he didn't know where the puck went, so quickly got back into his crease......puck was stuck in his skate and his skate went well over the goal line....therefore, a goal.

Well.....it's official I believe. Not sure when the last time the Wings have been officially eliminated from playoffs with this many games to go. Gotta say.....better as a fan though. I get the excitement of down to the wire to make it, but to me, that's only for an up and coming team that hasn't made it before.....it's depressing on the way down. No one wants to finish 17th.....the lower the better now.

It's a good hot take actually. Needs 6 goals...8 games to go. Not likely, but certainly no where near impossible. It's a lofty goals per game pace to get it, but all it takes is a hot streak at the right time.....you don't need to maintain the pace over 20 games

The 2002 team only lost 7 games all playoffs and the 2008 team lost 6....not a big difference. Having the leading scorer in the playoffs doesn't make you a better team than a team that doesn't have the leading scorer. It can be a factor, but it can also mean the team isn't very good and you need one guy to score (wasn't the case with the 2008 team and probably would never be the case for a Cup winning team). However, look deeper, the 2002 team had 5 players in the top 10 playoff scoring, the 2008 team only had 3.

Why would JT come to Detroit? That's the bigger issue. It won't be fore money because he'll get that anywhere.
