I'm sorry but that's the kind of mentality that got us into this pickle we're in.
-
STEAL......if he can stay healthy.
-
Yeah, almost forgot about the NTCs. We now have 4 guys with NTC, absolutely ridiculous. He's throwing these out like hotcakes without really thinking about it.
-
Yeah I just don't get it. Throw a bunch of money at Semin, I don't care if it's $8M, just to do it for a one year gig, there's no risk and it's better than letting the money just SIT THERE.
-
Deja vu, but once again, Pens look like they will announce a 1 year deal with Semin tomorrow. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/free_agency/2012/07/10/alexander_semin_pittsburgh_penguins_rumours/ Would have been awesome to get him on the same term.
-
Most likely destination seems to be San Jose and that he'll be ready to sign by tomorrow. http://blogs.denverp...t-sharks/11076/ Great signing for the Sharks as they need a guy who will actually provide the RIGHT leadership. God knows they aren't getting it from Big Joe. Looks like he's heading from the desert to the Silicon Valley! Have fun Doan!

An article that lays out my feelings to a tee. http://nhl-red-light...ng-a-new-world/ Good read.
-
Agree for the most part, which is why our ONLY option is to sign a potential 40 goal scorer in Semin.
-
Sorry, just don't agree with you. I agree with who you consider our definite top 6 guys, but I just don't feel Bert, Sammy, Cleary or Gus are potential top 6 guys. Brunner maybe, but come on, you can't bank on it as he's never stepped foot in the NHL. And also, as I've been saying voer and over, I think it's very concerning that 3 of our 4 legit top 6 guys are approaching mid 30's.
-
Considering 8 of those players are considered some of the best to ever player the game, and most people compare the 02 team to icing an All-Star team, so yeah....rare case .
-
haha, yeah maybe should have been more clear. Was trying to say none of our scoring depth have yet proved themselves to be top 6 material. Atm, I think we can only shoot for bottom 6 and go from there.
-
And signing a 35 year old to a 3 year contract will solve that? Shouldn't we be thinking of long term?
-
Lol, even at 38? Come on....
-
Would have been fine with this. Essentially eliminates any hope for Nash or Ryan, but defense is our top priority and Suban is just starting to blossom
-
A lot of you guys are in denial it seems. You speak as if Z and Dats were in their 20's still. They're aging forwards who will NEVER put up the numbers they once had, so don't expect them to. Can you last remember when a team with a core of mid 30 year olds won a cup? Without a talented youth injection, there is zero hope for us. This is simply not a playoff team.
-
you gotta keep in mind the age of our core players. Hank is almost 32 and Dats will be turning 34 in 10 days!! It's usually around this age that production takes a huge hit, so people who are expecting Dats and Hank of 08 are due in for a reality check. Not to mention, Franzen 32, Sammy turning 36, Bertuzzi 37, Cleary 33.....this core won't remain our core for much longer and last time I checked, we had no prospects in line even close to potential Hank/Dats level, which causes tremendous worry.
-
Worth ethnic is questionable, however I feel there was very little leadership with the Caps. I think a change in scenery, teammates, and management is exactly what he needs. I really think with Datsyuk as a mentor, this kid can shine. I mean, he IS afterall a proven 40 goal scorer. As for Yandle, I do think we'll have to give some valuable prospects and probably Franzen or Fippula but as our defense stands now, we'd be totally investing in our future, so it's worth it. This is our best option for now. We can't keep hoping for what will happen "next year". Holland's been doing that for the past 4 years and where has it gotten us?
-
Sign Semin for the shortest term he's willing to go. Trade for Yandle. Proven talent and youth injection on forward side and defensive side. Call it a day.
-
Nash and Ryan are a pipedream. Doan is possible, but come on, how much value can an aging vet add to a team of aging players? WE-NEED-YOUTH!
-
Well, for once, Crymson's got me. Jumped the gun too soon.
-
Confirmed via TSN NHL FEED. Pittsburgh has signed Semin and it will be announced tomorrow. http://twitter.com/TSNNHLFeed
-
Reports are he has signed with the Pens.
-
And, here it is. NHL Home Ice on Sirius has reported that Semin has signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh and it will be announced tomorrow. Bang up job you're doing over there, Kenny! Can you please resign already???? *Update*: Pittsburgh radio has just mentioned it as well. Looks like he's af****** Pen.

Quote of the day by Holland, brought to you by DFP: So, essentially, stand pat and pray guys sign with us in upcoming FAs. Your All-Star GM, ladies and gentlemen!
