I just realized how this is another sign of how awesome and classy the Wings organization is. Is there another club you would rather be a part of? Maybe 1 or 2 of these guys are here for insurance, but I doubt it. The reality is that they are letting their prospects take part in the excitement and the fun of playoff hockey. They are throwing their prospects a bone and it is a great move for future dedication. The other thing I realized is Babcock has to be a pretty cool guy to allow this. Most coaches want their players completely insulated. No screwing around, and no 19 year old who doesn't feel the pressure trying to be a funny guy. From the interviews I've heard, it sounds like Babcock lets the players be men, and do their own things away from the ice. I really like his coaching style.

If anyone should appreciate how clutch he is, it is a Wings fan, right? In a lot of ways, he is exactly what the Wings need; he is playoff hockey. I know it won't happen, but ever since he repeatedly burned us as a member of the Avs, I have wanted him. Would've been sweet if we had grabbed him from Calgary, when his stock was low.

I didn't say that Calder was only used to get rid of Williams, I said that ONE of the reasons I think Holland liked the deal is that he could free up some cash a year earlier if he so desired. Calder may be a keeper, but I think we have plenty of kids in the farm system, so unless he is willing to re-sign for next to nothing, we could replace him. We already have at least 8 forwards coming back for sure: Hank - Dats - Homer Flip - Kopets - Hudler Sammy - Draper Lids - Markov (he'll re-sign for about the same or less, I think) Kronwall - Lilja Lebda - Chelios Quincey Also, we are bringing Grigs over. I am not saying he is a sure fire NHL'r, but they'll want to give him a chance. My point is that what we really need is a consistent RW scorer. If we can pool money for a number of places (Schneider, Maltby, Calder, Bertuzzi) we could be in the running for a kick-ass player. Who is with me? You want playoff scoring? Then we really need a Drury type guy. EDIT: I forgot, add Lang to the list of places to get cash from.

I say we don't resign: 1. Bertuzzi 2. Maltby 3. Calder 4. Lang 5. Schneider and then use all of that money to actually get a game-changer. Let the young guys come in and fill the rest of the roles. Quincey is ready to replace Schneider (if Kronwall and Lebda come back healthy). We've got Grigs coming in (and hopefully Mursak sometime soon). We need to spend some money on one more game changer. PS. I think this is one reason Holland traded for Calder. Not only did he like his skills, but his contract was up this year, while Willy's had another to go.

I feel your frustration, but I don't think it applies here. Conroy is a classy player, add to that the fact that it is OT in an elimating game 6 one day after game 5, and it's not as much about disrespect as survival and exhaustion. It was a really unfortunate event, but those plays have been around as long as I've watched the game. It happens...just a bad result.

Well, the fact that Markennen did so well in the finals is a testament to your position, but I do think that Dwayne played out of this world for the first 6 games. That got EDM to believe and buy into sacrificing everything.

The thing I like about Ken and Lids is that neither is like MacTavish. If you are a mature and polite person all of the time, then it means something when you actually get pissed. It's a great characteristic to have.

I think it's because when something THAT shocking happens, everyone is just stunned. Cheapshots usually deserve the response you're talking about, but when a guy uses a baseball bat swing, I think everyone is just in shock, and realizes that they need to let the refs and the league handle the situation.

With Sammy, the only thing I can think of is that Babs is preaching getting the puck to the net, and Samuelsson certainly does that. Calder has been a less effective style of player lately because of all of the special teams time. If Calder was better at PK, he'd get more time. If I was the coach, I'd pull Kyle aside after the season and show him tape of Maltby. Then I'd say, "He's leaving, and I need you to be everything he used to be, and then some." Calder could be our future Kirk Maltby. However, Babs gets stuck in a dilemma when there is so much special teams time. I like Lebda more too. But, with the way Kronner was playing this season, I'd like Lebda better than him too. Kronwall was awful this year. I am not sure I'd even dress him, unless I wanted to dress 7 D (which is a possibility with all the special teams time that's been going on).

All he needs to do is look at Gretzky to make him think long and hard about wanting to coach.

He did not have a good first period on Thursday at all. That is what scares me.
