Hey Threadjacker: This is about Ovie's hit on Gonchar, not about past acts by anyone else. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by insulting long time posters on this board, but I don't think anyone has put on the homer glasses in this thread. Get over yourself and discuss the aspects of THIS THREAD. If not, take a self-imposed timeout.

I'm not sure what I should call it, but when you respond to a cogent observation with "stfu" it is stupid to say the least. Are we talking about Ovechkin's body of actions, or just this play? I thought this thread entitled: "Replying to Ovechkin's hit on Gonchar" was about this hit. My bad.

1. You didn't make an argument for why this is a dirty hit, you just made an argument for everyone to lose perspective here, because they may lose perspective in another situation. 2. Stop talking like you're a tough guy; those of us who have been around the sun a while just think that you need to go take a cold shower. 3. If he did widen his stance, I couldn't see it. My opinion on this hit has nothing to do with me responding negatively toward your previous comment.

Dino did what he had to do to be effective in his era. Homer does what he has to do to be effective in his era. Salute them both because the both take/took a pounding in their own way and stay on their game. That's what pisses other teams off about Homer, they keep cross checking him, and he doesn't respond. Then they go to far and the Wings get a PP. In year's past, Homer would get a tip in or rebound on the ensuring PP. Homer would do whatever he had to to stay in the league. Comparing eras is dubious at best.

To me, they showed it in 07. Calgary, SJ, ANA = brutal. Those were tough series, and I think it was essential to the maturation of the team. They needed to believe that they could win with there style. Now they do. Can those calling for more toughness just admit that we're not going to do it with this roster?

Ducks were better in 07. That's why they play the game. No excuses, we lost.

I agree with this. When you are up 2 late in the game, just keep your cool and try to avoid momentum chaning moments. Now, if it was in the first or second, then I like getting Beauch off of the ice in exchange for our worst forward. The Ericcson-Perry fight was better timed. However, seeing how awesome and necessary Ericcson has been, I am not sure I would want a repeat of that.

I like how you bag on Holmstrom's "extra pads." I don't even know you and I can already say with complete confidence: You would not last for 1 game in Holmstrom's role, let alone a full season, or career. I am laughing at you.

One of the biggest mistakes a team can make is not playing their game. The minute you let your opponent dictate your style of play is the minute that you give him an advantage. He has experience and natural abilities that favor that style (after all, that's why it is his style), you probably don't. For all the Wings fans who want more fighting and think it would make a better team: I disagree, but fine. Assuming it would make a better team, you don't do it with this roster. You need a different roster, not a different philosophy. This roster isn't built for that, and trying to turn this roster in to that is going to lead to more losses, not less. QED

I haven't kept a mental tally when reading his article, but I think he's a pretty balanced writer. I've seen plenty of things about the Wings that were positive.

Interesting desire for a fan from a team playing against the Ducks. I hate when refs don't let the players decide the game, but I hope they call them consistently when dirty play comes up. There is NO way that the PIMs should be equal at the end of this series.

You can be overly physical with chokers because it gets under their skin and gets them off their game. What impressed me in 07 is that the Wings didn't let it get to them too much. We need to do that again. Half the people on here will be calling the team pansies, but if the Wings play their game, they will win. If they get into a slugfest, that is playing the Ducks game.

I don't like cheering for the Sharks. I think if they escape Round 1 against such a tough foe, they are going to be way more confident going into round 2. Root for the Ducks. Wings want revenge.

I expect a lot from Datsyuk every night; and he gives it. He has played well in Games 1 and 2. His offense has been good, but his all around game is amazing. Lids and Rafi are great, but everyone keeps forgetting how much of a role the forwards play in shutting down Nash. It is so awesome that he must be planned around in both offense and defense. My favorite player: Pavel Datsyuk.

Genuine Question: What is funny about it? My first reaction: Here is a team leader whose team is down 0-2 to a lower seed and just got handled twice in his own building, disrupting another team's practice. AO can't get in the press by scoring, so now he does it by being a nuisance? I don't see it. Please explain it to me. He is one of my favorite players and usually I like everything he does. This one, I don't get.

GUYS!!! SJ is playing a division rival, and franchise rival in the first round of the playoffs. If you've followed the Wings for a while, you know that there are few things scarier. The first round is nerve racking enough without having a team that knows you so well. If the Sharks were overachievers, then the Ducks were underachievers. There was not a team in the league that didn't have that game circled in their mind as one where they would have to sacrifice for a win. The Ducks know what it takes, and are better than their regular season record reflects. Put all this together: (1) in same division, (2) rivalry matchup, (3) perrenial playoff struggles, (4) #8 seed that is better than their record reflects, and (5) first round matchup. That combination should have tipped us off that the Sharks would be in a battle for their lives. At this point, I don't think they can come back. Hoping they push it to 7, but not optimistic. -T

I want the Ducks. I was a little pissed last year that the Wings didn't get to beat them on the way to the cup. There is one team that hasn't "upset" the Wings in the playoffs, but rather just beat them: the Anaheim Ducks. It's Detroit's turn to take it to them in a series. That would be such sweet revenge.
