I was against re-signing Schneider until I saw how much we missed him. I think we need to re-sign Schneider and Cheli. I'd love Drury (he'd be my favorite player if he was a Wing) but this team really needs a RW sniper. Who's out there that fits this description?

Take it back. Melrose and his ilk can talk about that "gift" but Pavel earned that goal.
-
One more point: At this point in the series (being up only 2-1), I think it might be a bit pre-mature to claim we've "solved Giguere"
-
I don't think that's true at all. There were lots of people who thought he was going to stick with Gerber. Gerber was the clear #1 until he got that weird flu right at the end of the season.
-
I'm not sure that was a smile or breathing. I look the same way when I'm out of breath.
-
Where was the smile? I couldn't find it.

There are 3 Norris Trophy candidates in this series. Which one has not only played great defense and great offense, but shown respect for the game and its players?

What did Draper say?

Players push for extra years on their contracts. This is that extra year. Lang was a deal earlier in his contract because he's not a deal now. Basic pro-player contract resolution.

Hey Barrie, What is our playoff record when Hudler plays? Did Hudler survive the regular season? How much has Calder contributed on the score sheet or physically? I think you make a strong argument, but in this case, it just doesn't fit.

Seriously guys, let's hear it for the lawyers, I am continually impressed with how awesome that profession is. Anyone else?
-
Impressive contracting. The lawyers did a good job making sure that both parties got what they wanted.

Victoria Cup tournament to start in September 2008

This smacks of exhibition hockey, which is almost always more boring than you think. No NHL team wants their players hurt for that amount of money. Do they? -
Well, got to hand it to these guys, they didn't say shutout all game.
-
We are playing a bit like SJ did in the past. Let's go for the win, not to avoid the loss.
-
How do you handle the sound not matching up?
-
Sorry to be annoying, but I'm going to repeat my question one last time: Anyone else having trouble with the sound on Sopcast? Seriously, I won't do it again. Thanks guys.
-
Anyone else not have any sound on sopcast? This sucks.

I think the financial worries wouldn't be for next year, it'd be a long term problem. Drury's stock is sky high, what with Bucci pimping him out and all, and he is going to pull a rich, long term contract. We would have problems when Hank comes back up for a contract in a couple of seasons. Drury would be my favorite player if he signed with the Wings, but sadly, it ain't happening.
-
They did good by Mac. The Wings wanted value but couldn't get it, they let him go instead of making him stick out his contract in podunk, nowhere. Classy move by the Wings.

I know some people don't like the idea of a stop-gap goalie, but I still believe that Howard needs another year. If he needs 1 more year (and since this thread is predicated on the assumption Hasek doesn't come back) then we would want a 1 year goalie that won't break the bank. ANSWER: Vesa Toskala. Vesa has 1 year left on his contract and I believe he is making UNDER 2 mil. Also, the Sharks have been shopping him, reportedly for a first round pick from FLA. Well, since our first round pics are less valuable, we'd have to sweeten the deal a bit, but I think Vesa would be perfect. Then, if he turns into a Kipper and will re-sign for a reasonable amount, we have a blue chip talent in Howard that we could use for trade, and the back-up of the future in Liv (or visa versa). It just makes sense.

Not that I agree with this thread, but the period wasn't over, and that was nowhere near boarding. Lame comment.

Dude, then you weren't watching carefully. Lebda was playing good D, and was one of the few Wings that could gain the blue line with speed. He really does create at least 2-3 times a game with a good rush to get the puck in. I think we miss Lebda's speed.

I love that photo because it shows you Chelios wiping Thornton's face like he has done to 2 generations of players. He is so experienced, he doesn't squint or worry.

FACT: Dom gets better as series go on. Games 6&7 are going to be even harder for the Sharks to score. The Sharks were 33 seconds from all but ending the series. Thank you Robert Lang.
