From Corey Pronman of ESPN: Very surprised nobody drafted Zach Sawchenko. Was a first-team All-Star in WHL and has a decent chance to be on Canada's WJC team. Sounds a little Hicketts-y to me, would love to see us invite this guy to prospects camp.

Overall a good draft. Lots of D, big gritty winger, obviously getting rid of Pavs contract. Should be an exciting week ahead of us.

Love the Sambrook big, not big on the Swedish goalie or Elfstrom but I'll have faith in Hakan.

While i do agree, I think the biggest reason it came together was Chychruns fall down the lineup. Arizona wanted him, and finally decided to pay the price.

Real money vs no money. Even if he were on LTIR for Arizona they would have to pay him 1.1 million. With Pavs contract they don't pay any real money.

Really, really hope so. Hes got all the tools to be a stud, he just needs to figure out the mental side of the game.

No doubt about them being better, lately Elliott's name has jumped in the Flames rumor mix. All I'm saying is, the fact that the prices are so high on them, and they likely wouldn't be on Jimmy, it is surprising to me we haven't heard any rumors. Burke was part of the brain trust that chose Howard as the 3rd goalie on team USA just 2 years ago after all. I'm still holding out hope Bishop and Fleury don't move and the Flames are forced to look elsewhere.

Yeah, it's ridiculous really. You hear the prices for goalies right now, and you don't even so much as hear Howard's name because teams don't want the contract. Yet, the price wouldn't be near what Bishop/Fleury/Elliot would cost. If Howard comes back in the fall, I'll be kind of embarrassed for him. Not a single team in the league (including his own) want's him. Ouch.

Montreal needs a center though, the only way Subban goes if Chiarelli loses his marbles and offers Hall+Nugent-Hopkins+4th for Subban, which won't happen.

Ah, I thought the team that had the rights would be hit with the recapture. No chance of that happening then.

I personally think it will be interesting to see if we protect Zetterberg, and if Vegas would have any interest in him. From a Red Wings perspective, Z is the captain, a life long Wing, and still (as of now) an important player. But from a business standpoint, his contract will kill us for a little while when he retires due to the cap recapture. From Vegas' standpoint, would they want to bring in a top 9 (likely by next summer) forward with high caliber character to lead your team for a few seasons, despite the recapture. And on that subject, would they be interested in him BECAUSE of the recapture because it would help them hit the floor for a couple of years while they figure things out.

Yeah, it's funny looking in those threads and seeing a bunch of users you recognize, but haven't seen in forever. Back to wings, this is the first day in a while where I haven't heard anything regarding them. Still early in the day, but... maybe silence is good thing?
