Definitely would signal the coaching staff no longer wanting Z at center.
-
If it gets rid of Andersson and Miller, and stops Cleary from coming back I like it
-
The Brad Richards news is interesting. He'd bring us to 15F, 8D, 2G when all the RFA's are signed though (I think?). Must be a trade coming as well.

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
Love the contract. He made 6 mil in his last year, so taking a cut wasn't happening. Love the term, well done Kenny. Now trade one of the veteran D and it's time to go. -
The cap not going up, and most teams addressing needs through trades caused this. I think it's good for teams looking for UFA help, at least for this year, prices won't be crazy.
-
I'd go as high as 5.5 as long as the term is only 3/4 years. Managable contract, and potentially asset in a few years if the kids develop beyond what we expect. I just have a feeling someone else last minute will bring the $$$
-
Lebrun just said on TSN the interest in Green has been less than what he expected. Mentioned thinking it'll be us, but the Bruins are still hanging around and if they decide to panic last minute and overpay him, please do Sweeney.

Signed Brendan Smith re-signed 2 yrs $2.75 mill AAV
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Well put, it's more politically correct as well. -
I hate CBJ, but man, if the injury bug doesn't hit them like a tsunami again next season, they're gonna be dangerous.
-
Exactly. It's not like we're pressed up against the cap, far from it. Should be interesting to see how tomorrow works out.

Meh. 750k-500k too much, but 2 years is good. I don't think you can fix stupid, but if Smith is allowed to carry the puck more in Blashills system maybe that will reduce the turnovers and increase the point total. -
Yeah, I don't understand why do it this year unless you think you have a good chance at landing that RH Dman tomorrow. The buyout made way more sense next season, for reasons more than just shortening the term. Kenny said to HSJ that it's for re-signing UFA's next year, but I think that's smoke and mirrors. Quinceys 4.25+Danny's 1mil bonus+whatever the cap goes up by would be enough to re-sign Dekeyser, Abdelkader and Helm. I do love the fact there trying to give Larkin a chance to crack the roster, kid is turning heads.

Holland doesn't expect to be busy this offseason
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Not surprising, but disappointing nontheless. With a new coach, and hopefully lots of kids stealing jobs, we should look a lot different next season anyways. I still think Kenny will kick tires on Green and Franson though. -
Love seeing Boston blow it up. Trade Chara and Rask next you ******* losers.
-
Andreas Lilja still playing in Sweden or did he retire? We could always use some toughness on the back end.

Tony Granato and Pat Ferschweiler, assistant coaches

I like the choices. Familarity was what Blash went with, so now we'll continue to build from within. Now a couple of days to see if we add any bodies or just go with the kids. -

Jeff Blashill named 27th head coach in Red Wings history

Chelios keeping his GR role in Detroit makes sense. Dudes to busy to commit to coaching full time. Interested to see who the other assistant will end up being. -
Thought it was gonna be Derek Lalonde, but nothing wrong with having strong coaching depth in all three leagues. Nelson is a PP genius, and got some alright results with a crappy Oilers team. He's been a stud in the AHL before, so I expect him to do a great job with the kids.

The wings new PK strategy will be to line broken sticks up across the blue-line to stop the opposing team. The sirdrake days were the best the forums ever seen IMO. -

Advance correction to Insider Trading segment on impending college UFA Mike Reilly, who's in BUF today meeting teams. Meeting 9, not 8 clubs For those who don't know: Reilly is a college player who was drafted by Columbus in 2011. I haven't seen him play personally, but he's highly touted. Wouldn't hurt, DeKeyser turned out pretty well. Unfortunately he's LH and born in Chicago so I guess we'll see.
