Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I love how people actually think Holland/Blashill would play skilled guys over garbage 4th liners. The 4th line will be Miller-Glendening-Ott/Jurco, they will be caved in every shift and generate no offense, but they will contribute on the PK and play hard and that's all that matters to this management group. -
Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

1.8 for a guy who plays hard, PK's and win's face-offs is a bit much for me. Nearly 10 million per year for the next four years for Abby, Helm and Glendening................ -

GR are gonna be fun to watch with both of them suiting up. Well, I guess the way things are shaping up AA, Mantha, Bert and Sadowy will all be in GR I'll have to get an AHL season pass if that's the case. -

Sadowy hype, hat trick in a scrimmage don't mean much but it's a nice first impression. He can play in GR this year right? I look forward to seeing his game develop. -

Torey Krug says hello. I wouldn't call him a long shot, nor would I personally call him a guarantee. I think, having watched him play for Victoria and at the WJHC for Canada, I think he's going to make the NHL. Whether or not he's a top 4, let alone a top 6 is up to him. -
Signed Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit

Again, I know it won't happen. It's that it should, it just shows we don't have a GM who understands asset management. Shipping a guy like Vanek, who even IF he has a good season shouldn't be re-signed, would get us valuable assets that will make us better in the future. It's high time we start looking forward to building a contender again, and not falling ass backwards into the playoffs. But again, I know I'm preaching to the choir, it's more likely we trade our assets to add a vet at the deadline so we can lock up that 8th seed -

You're probably right, that's Kenny's way. But it's not the smart way, we keep holding onto players and watching them walk when we could've flipped them and plugged in a young player and been just fine. Vanek especially not being home grown, if we're in the 8th seed and we can get a 1st for Vanek then in the spirit of Kenny's "retool on fly" we should do it. Then let AA and Mantha hypothetically play more down the stretch. Unfortunately the more I type, the more I realize the red Wings will never do that and that is exactly the reason we sit in mediocrity today. Bad asset management. -

Personally I hope he lights it up and we can flip him at the deadline to some desperate team looking for one last piece for a 1st round pick. And I know that sounds crazy, but Paul Gaustad went for a 1st at the deadline a few years ago. -

It's a two year deal, first year is 2-way and the second year is one way. He'll be the back up for the 17-18 season. -

LGW is the only place arguing over advanced stats could involve the posting of a glow puck video I love it (btw I don't love advanced stats, but like anything else a useful tool for arguments over players), I remember I used to love the all star game as a kid because all the star players were shooting pucks with lasers on them into the net... I was 7 or 8 years old in '97 so give me a break for the lasers thing -

From Helene St. James: Red Wings except defenseman Danny DeKeyser to file for arbitration. Would be one year because UFA next summer. -

I love this signing..... we have to swing a trade for a defenceman now -

It's not bad enough that I'm hungover and a year older, but this day has not gone well for the Wings I'm preparing myself for Hudler and Quincey to be signed within the hour haha -
signed Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

Does any team value PKing as much as the Red Wings?? I value this thing called goal scoring, and we didn't do s*** today that will help that. Just for the love of god Blashill play the kids more next season, that would be fine. -
Signed Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit

Ken talks about wanting to get a bit bigger, maybe get more offense. We get a soft pass first player, I knew on Wednesday when Stamkos re-signed in Tampa that this would be the likely outcome so I don't really care that much. -

Jimmy Murphy is full of s***. But Panthers have been talking turkey with Ekblad and I wouldn't be surprised if that was legit. -

I thought we'd be linked to him too. Maybe the price is too high? -

Hope he's part of our haul tomorrow, but whenever Buffalo is involved in rumors I get nervous that moron Tim Murray would offer him 8mil/7yrs... we'll soon see. -

I'm punting the ball in that scenario, neither is a good contract. I understand you have to pay "market value" but that's for impact forwards, not a 2nd line center (Nielsen) or a 3rd line center (Helm) At this point I'd like to go baptism by fire with Larkin and AA at center and insulate them with good wingers. -

I know one thing, I'm gonna be thoroughly disappointed if we sign Frans Nielsen for 5.5/5yrs. That's his rumored ask, and he keeps popping up in rumors linked to us. McKenzie mentioned Ladd as a name we might be in on, I'd be down with that. -

I love how this started with Radulov but evolved, not quite sirdrake stuff but I get a kick out of it. -
Beyond Weber vs Subban, Nashville wins based on what their defense looks like now vs Montreal. Josi-Subban Ekholm-Ellis vs. Markov-Weber Emelin-Petry No comparison.

Yeah, you would think the cream of the crop getting less than market value would drop the price not raise it. Unfortunately NHL GM's are a bunch of mopes who sign these awful deals and then get cold feet years later. Kenny having the money to match the craziness other GM's offer players is a terrifying thing right now. -

Few more names to hit the FA list tomorrow: Korpikoski (EDM), Carle (TB), Boll (CBJ), Seidenberg (BOS), Greene (LA), Jackman (NSH). All being bought out. -
More salt in the wound, from Pierre Lebrun: Montreal, Toronto, Buffalo and a fourth team got to make pitches in person to Stamkos this week. Detroit not one of them. That's just ******* sad, some random team got an audience with him and we didn't.
