Selanne, Giguere Skate Final Lap Together

Classy move by both teams and a very touching moment to see Giguere and Selanne out there together. Two more guys from the old guard on their way out...

    ROW vs Point based system

True, but it's kind of dumb that we got in with only 38 wins anyway. I like this ROW idea going forward, though I'm not sure what the league would think of it.

WCQF - Series E - Colorado vs. Minnesota

I'm picking Colorado in this series. I don't want to, but I just don't see how the Wild could beat them in a 7 game series.

Helm Finally Looking Like His Old Self!

I thought he looked back to his old self after being back only a few games. His speed never went away and he was still throwing checks. I think it's just easier to notice him when the Wings play against more physical teams. *Fingers crossed* It will be a huge boost to have him available for this year's playoffs.

% chance of making the playoffs

As of right now, we need 3 points (I believe) to clinch a playoff spot if NJ and Tor win all three of their remaining games. That shouldn't be impossible, but the Wings HAVE to win tonight to increase those odds. It would be nice to clinch that 7th spot and play Pittsburgh, but just making it in means that anything is possible. Wouldn't want to play Montreal, though. Their speed and goaltending has given Detroit problems for the past few seasons.

Lightning sign GM Yzerman to contract extension

Enough crying about the Jarnkrok trade. There's no guarantee that he would have come in and scored points at the rate he was/is doing it in Nashville. Different systems, different situations. On that note, congrats to Yzerman. He needs a few more years to allow his moves and picks to pan out in Tampa and to gain more experience at his position.

What has Bryz done again ?

Haha the guy is a nutball, but he certainly is entertaining.

    A plea to Holland.

That was a brutal game by Kindl and Lashoff but I blame Babcock for continuing to put them out there after giving up a goal. Especially with under six minutes left and down by 1 already. The fact is that both of these guys need a better partner to cover for some of their mistakes, but there aren't really any better options until Ericsson comes back so they're forced to play together.

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

Yep, another minus for Lashoff and Kindl... wow.

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

Why does Babcock keep putting that pair out there? They should ride the pine the rest of the game.

    Ugh.... Gustavsson...

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

Agreed. I like Datsyuk with Nyquist (who wouldn't?) but put somebody else on the other wing. Alfredsson or Abby, maybe?

    4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3

Lashoff with the terrible angle there... man that Pacioretty kid has some wheels, though.

    3/30 GDT - Lightning 2 @ Red Wings 3

    These refs are absolutely terrible.

    Blown Leads

Quite simply, it's lack of sustained offensive pressure. It's easy to blame the defense when the puck is in our own zone for over half the game. I've noticed, time after time, the Wings will gain the blue line, get the puck in the corner, and then lose a battle along the boards. Getting one or two weak shots on goal and then losing the puck for over a minute is not the way to keep a lead. That said, the PP looks better than it has for most of the season, largely due to new guys getting chances and the kids' energy.

    Callahan called up from GR.....

Glad to see this happen, but kind of bittersweet for Grand Rapids. I think Callahan will provide a better presence on the 4th line than Ferraro.

3/23 GDT: Red Wings vs Wild

Bad change there... well at least they got 1 point...

3/23 GDT: Red Wings vs Wild

Hell of a play by Smith at the end there. He's really starting to come into his own.

Rangers sign Ryan Haggerty (with an interesting clause)

Ten bucks says this kid demands a trade before the end of next season.

    Finally-TooToo called up

I like that Tootoo is getting a chance to play, but this lineup with all of these injuries is an absolute joke. It's just a shame when you think about where the Wings might be in the standings if the top guys stayed healthy for most of the year.

Andersson breaks foot - down another center

At this point it would be nice to have him back. At least, until Helm or any of the other injured centers are back. Legwand Cleary Abby Emmerton/Glendening looks slightly better than Legwand Abby Glendening Emmerton

3/9 GDT: Red Wings at Rangers

Lundquist with the convenient mask issue. Refs need to start handing out delay of game penalties for this kind of s***.

Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

The Wings desperately needed a center, Holland went out and got the best one available for this team. We don't know if he had to add Jarnkrok or that 3rd rounder because some other team also made an offer and that was what it took to make the trade. What's done is done and now this team has a fighting chance to make the playoffs. I just hope Legwand re-signs after this season because that would give this team incredible center depth when healthy.

    Yzerman's contract up after 2015

This isn't really a question of whether or not the Wings will bring him back, but if he wants to come back. He very well may decide he wants to continue to build the team that gave him a shot as their GM. He has done a pretty decent job but I wouldn't be upset if the Wings' GM job goes to someone else.
