I'm starting to think that Babcock's attitude about the shootout is starting to rub off on the team. They don't really seem to be trying very hard. This has to be some kind of conspiracy to make the shootout less interesting and get Kenny's 3 on 3 idea through.

Danny DeKeyser out for weekend with upper body injury
Wings_Toledo replied to Smite's topic in General
With Abby and now Deke out I really hope this isn't the start of the dreaded mid-season Wings injury bug... -
A team in Las Vegas would quickly turn into another Arizona Coyotes situation. Their ECHL team, the Wranglers, even voluntarily suspended operations for this season because they were essentially kicked out of their arena (not necessarily for attendance issues, but still). I would much rather see Seattle or Quebec City get a team if the league insists on another expansion.

I've been to Nationwide Arena a handful of times (twice to see the Wings) and while it's a nice arena, the fans are absolutely horrible. Half of them have never seen a hockey game and the other half are only there because the Buckeyes aren't playing. I understand the second half since it's a huge college town for one of the biggest schools in the country, but it's annoying having to watch a game next to their fans. At least they're quiet for the most part and there's a lot to do in downtown Columbus.

The Panthers one actually made me laugh out loud.

GDT 12/7 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Hurricanes 1
Wings_Toledo replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
He's still playing very well defensively, so as long as other guys are putting up points I'm alright with his little slump. Hopefully he gets on the scoresheet again soon, though. -
Good to see this kid get the invite after putting in a lot of hard work. There's no telling if he'll ever make it to the NHL but I could see him becoming a 3rd pairing PP specialist in the future.

RIP Pat and Viktor. Pat Quinn was the last good Maple Leafs coach.

I could definitely see him in some sort of "youth development" role. Considering how all of the players talk about him as a mentor and a leader, etc.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
Wings_Toledo replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I'd rather just be patient and and see what we have in Mantha/Pulk before making a trade just for the sake of trading. Mantha has the tools and skillset to become that big, top six winger that we're looking for and there are a number of D-men that could become available at the trade deadline (and in our system at GR). No sense in making a trade this early into the season. -
gdt 11/14 GDT : Blackhawks 1 at Red Wings 4

I have to admit, it's nice having Quincey back. He's played pretty well so far this season. -
The most noticeable one for me (aside from our star players) is Ericsson. Drafted dead last (I think?) and turned out to be a solid NHL defenseman. A very similar situation could potentially happen for Marchenko.

Knowing how Wings' injuries often go from "day to day" to "out for 4 months," this could be Mrazek's shot to steal the backup spot for good.
-
I think Ozzie does a fine job providing interesting and informative commentary, but he tends to be silent too often. I'm sure he'll get the knack of it after time but Mick just compliments Ken so naturally that it's odd hearing someone else.
-
He's a talented kid who probably won't get a real shot until he's traded away from Nashville or gets sick of the NHL and heads back to Europe. I thought I had read somewhere that he was a risk to go back to Sweden anyway, unless that was another Wings prospect.
-
This is one of those games where we know we should win, so hopefully the Wings keep playing like they have been and pull out a big victory. Should be somewhere in the range of 3-1 or 4-1 Wings.
-
Agreed about Franzen. It still would have made WAY more sense to give Cleary a contract after training camp, if he proved he deserves a roster spot. Unfortunately now he'd still eat up cap space while taking ice time away from some kid in GR if he were sent down. We know we have guys in GR who could be called up and look decent in the NHL so I'm alright with the Wings being extra careful with injuries to avoid the same situation as the last 3-4 years. At least it shows they know it's an issue.
-
Hopefully it's just a precaution with Howard and not the start of an injury that will keep him out for any signifcant amount of time. Although, if he does miss a few games I'd like to see Mrazek get a couple of starts.

Didn't really look like a hook to me. Kronwall just lost the puck in his skates and fell down. Unfortunate, but it happens. Great game otherwise. Moving on.

2014 Prospects Tournament and Training Camp (Sept. 12-23)
Wings_Toledo replied to WorkingOvertime's topic in General
I know that Mantha will get a good look when training camp starts but this performance shows what a great offensive skillset he has. If he can put up numbers even half that good against NHL competition then he'll definitely get a call up at some point in the season. -
I mean, unless you couldn't tell, I was being a bit sarcastic with my response because I didn't think it would be taken so seriously so I apologize if that was unclear. Like someone else said, though, perhaps the thread title should be changed because it seems like everyone is predicting what they would "like" to see instead of what they think may logically happen.
-
I don't want to be negative about the Wings, but I haven't seen anything from this team for about the last 4 or 5 seasons that makes me think the upcoming season will be any different. I hope I'm wrong, but my prediction (based on what I've observed recently) is that it's going to be another mediocre season. Besides, who said that all predictions have to be so improbably positive?
-
My predictions? Half the roster is injured by November and they barely scrape into the playoffs again.
-
I'd do Tatar, 2nd/3rd, and Kindl (they're going to have to take on some salary to get a higher pick) for Green and a 6th/7th. Seems fair given that Tatar can produce and the Caps will probably get a decent pick out of it.

Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses
Wings_Toledo replied to anthonyn66's topic in General
Except that we all know deep down that's never going to happen. I was willing to give Holland the benefit of the doubt on the off-season so far, but this signing is just ridiculous. Screw the "agreement" he had with Cleary last year. The guy is useless.
