with contracts like that being offered I think it is potentially debatable as to whether the NHL will continue to be the best league in the world... dont forget Ford and GM once scoffed at the idea of an upstart foreign competator gaining a foothold in the industry...look where they are now brutus

Question: Will the Wings sign a big name free agent?
brutus replied to hckypete96's topic in General
they can negotiate anytime but why would you, as an organization, take a cap hit any earlier than you have to? Especially with it increasing every year... brutus -
Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
brutus replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Lidstrom...hell ******* yes...what sorta dummy wouldnt? Osgood...no so freaking sure...lets see what happens in the next couple of years..we win 1 or 2 more cups then oh yeah baby 2 how could he not??? brutus -
Do you not notice the incongruity of your comments...I believe your insinuation, correct me if I am wrong, is that commenting/discussing the officiating equals whining. Furthermore you seem to assert that as long as the officiating is poor regarding both teams then that means it was NOT poor or not worthy of complaining…or whining as you so eloquently state it...I don’t understand your logic here but that is what you seem to believe Still later on in your comment...on one hand you want the "whining" to stop but on the other hand you promote the idea of writing a letter to Colin Campbell to "whine" ...well which is it?? Your comments make no sense as written perhaps you could go back and edit it for clarity and intent. So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that'd be great. All right! –Dom Portwood (Office Space) Brutus

yes but we should have had even more...perhaps you need some clarification though. The number of PPs is only relevant if it is EQUAL to the number of infractions...so your argument, while most likely a feeble attempt at humor is still nontheless invalid brutus

I am sorry but I am going to have to disagree with you on this one...although you do bring up some potentially valid points regareding inconsistency. In my opinion the fact that Osgood referenced the bias as well as the attention and comments from external news sources clearly demonstrates something is rotten in Denmark...independantly these pieces of criticism might be dismissable however when all are taken in context and the evidence is combined I cannot see how you can deny what others are so clearly seeing. I watched the whole series and obviously there were bad calls both ways; however at the truly game defining moments, and do not try and tell me that officials are not aware of the impact timing has, it was quite obvious that the pens got the majority of the calls. That is an indisputable fact and as such warrants some criticism and possibly investigation. What to do about it...that I do not have an answer for as it seems that it may be more systemic, and as it has the appearance of a top-down chain of command issue, I am not sure much will or can be done. It will be interesting to see what happens next year should the wings make another SCF run ut until then I am not going to really worry about it any more and enjoy this year!!! brutus

s***...that is no surprise...it was probably only the Wings fans booing his sorry ass...half the women in pissburgh should be lining up to blow him what with how he was tooting cindy's horn, pandering to the pissburgh fans and stacking the officials brutus addendum: if he really does have ALS then I feel for him and his family and wish them the best; but I really hope not so I can go on hating him with a vengance and a clear conscience!!

Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

Yeah...great... here's to the asshat for not ******* up and simply doing his job correctly....I know we are not used to seeing it very often so lets give him some kudos yaaaaaay! brutus

so basically no...you are not capable of discriminating between technological advancements impacting the performance of a sport versus other types of advancements and as far as heated blades not needing to be invented...well...umm...gee... hate to tell you...uhhh... they already have been so that is a pretty irrelevant statement blurb
-
Can you seriously not discriminate between technological advancements impacting the performance of a sport versus the broadcast observation of a sport? do you really think they are the same "technological advancements"....come on get real...this is comparing apples to oranges and is not related to the argument at hand ...nice attmempt at a straw man argument though blurb

$399 and they are already available and to you schmoes who think this will ruin hockey...are you still playing with a 1 piece stick or do you use a glue laminated wooden stick or perhaps a composite stick...do you still use skates with a steel truck or are you using skates with a PVC or plastic truck? what the about the improvement over the years of making ice...should we go back to the marginally effective systems of the 50's and 60's to maintain the integrity of the game, allowing a significant layer of slush to develop during the game compared to today? Get over it... move on... keep up with technology or the world will pass you by and only you will be left feeling sorry for yourself brutus BWAAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAH do you really think with all of these improvements that the skill level is depreciated...I mean get real LOL!!!! you guys make it sound like all you ahve to do is buy the equipment and not have any talent .....all it does is allow for a further expression of the skill the athlete already possesses brutus

Oh MY GOD oh my god oh my god I am just glad everyone is OK....whew...I mean how close a call was that??? we almost lost the whole team in one fell swoop...albeit a slow motion turning stuck in the mud kinda swoop but still OH the humanity!! Woe is me at such a near calamity...I can hardly keep myself composed and I was'nt even there I am so thankful everyone is ok... I mean they were probably going like 15-20 miles an hour and all of a sudden came to a slow halt in the mud...imagine their horror the sheer terror that must have been experienced on that plane...I bet there was some screaming and perhaps the shedding of even a few tears from these hardened men...I wonder if in the few minutes they thought they had left in this world as the plane was slowly stopping and it became apparent it would not move again without some assistance, if any of the players confessed deep long hidden man-crushes on their teammates? brutus

DING DING DING!! nice to see someone really utilizing the critical thinking we all should have learned in high schooll rather than hopping on a bandwagon of bye-gone sentiment. As others have noted and I will agree; I find it VERY hard to believe that, given the statisticallly significant number of players chosing composite over wood, wooden sticks are superior in any way, except possibly durability...and as far as that goes I have only heard anecdotal evidence, no statistical proof, that they break more frequently...maybe I am missing a piece of research but I have never seen it. Personally I do not notice the "difference" in receiving a pass anymore...perhaps a little years ago when I switched to composite, but now I have no problem nor do I believe that the pros would continue to use a piece of equipment if it actually made it HARDER to perform....that is aside from a very shallow initial learning curve. brutus

!!!ATTENTION TORONTO!!! STOP COVETING THE REDWINGS...JUST STOP already! enough is enough... The Toronto media is reporting that the leafs have convinced Illich to buy the leafs and bring the entire redwings organization to Turdonto. In return we get all of the Toronto hotties...I would actually take that deal, if we could draft who to bring over, somebody start running the stats on those gals...they may not have much of a hockey team but dag-nammit they gots some beee-U-tiful ladies there. burtus

yeah...what he said except I dont care about the 3 year deal or a 3 week deal... brutus
-
Dude you are seriously psycho...I hope you don't have a dog. brutus

not to nitpick your argument but that is simply not true. it was a majority, it was certianly NOT every team. and as far as the crowds in detroit, i dont htink the news media's views are that far off...it is a combination of factors, lack of interesting characters on the team, lack of stable economy in michigan, being on top for so many years, and frankly though i hate to admit it, they play a rather boring style of hockey, not to degrade them because it is a very good team but there is little to get very excited about over their style of play. I will go to a few games this year but honestly, unlike years past i am not kicking myself for missing games...in some way the glow has faded for me. I still love the game still love the team and will wat h every game i can on tv...but...apathy i suppose.... brutus i think they are portraying it pretty accurately

for those of us that missed it could someone provide a summary briefing on what was discussed. Thanks, blurb
