shouldnt he also be suspended for fighting and not having his jersey tied down...came off pretty quick and easy...or am i missing something...besides that he is a penguin brutus

Probably because you people don't understand them...see statistics are often used to affirm an assertion or validate a position in an argument. It is one of those pesky logical thought process things or an example of critical thinking. WHOAAA... Sorry, I did'nt mean to get too deep into the explaination because I am sure it will be over your head and most likely a waste of both our time. BTW: I typed this very slowly to enhance your comprehension; feel free to move your lips while you are reading it if it helps. brutus

great site...much appreciate the link. It is nice to actually see that there is/can be some sort of rational thought process behind some of the decisions. Now what I would really like to see is how they hold the officials acountable, because I do NOT have confidence that it happens as often as it should brutus edited to add the appropriate NOT

Hehe...you said "...dick of it 10+..." niiiiice...

That is the one I was thinking of...as my memory fades I also seem to remember that they (colorado) went on to win the game as well.... brutus

Didnt san jose do something like that against detroit one year...pulled the goalie way early and went on to win the game...??? brutus

So...I am not sure what you are saying here...are you claiming to be as redneck or not as redneck as the person living in the "shed" or the predator fans. It would seem to me that your case argument would lend more credibility to your affiliation with redneckism or redneckocity than against it even though you claim to "leave the city” to urinate on a building on a farm....not trying be an asshat here just trying to figure out what your intention was. Frankly growing up and living in Ann Arbor makes me think anyone in Michigan outside of the US23-M14-I94 corridor is a redneck and there has been little to dissuade me. <- obvioulsy being an asshat here if you cant take a joke move on. Do you think Mo-Cheese (arguably the most high profile Red Wings fan) is a redneck? -I sure do. brutus

have you ever been to Taylor? or should i say Taylortucky. brutus

Boob Rouse was a phenominal player. Good for him. I know he was a great stay-at-home defenceman but I was somewhat surprised to see he only scored 37 goals in over 1000 games though...I wonder what the lowest goals/game is for players with over 1000 games? brutus

WAAAAAIIIIT a minute there sailor...you do realize that this kind of thinking will cause the end of internet boards across the internets...all of them!! How dare you, sir...how dare you inject such a rational realization into this arena...you should be ashamed of yourself and I recommend a self imposed exile until you can regather your panties into a bunch and realize the sky IS falling like the rest of us. Good day! whew! now that I have that off my chest there are some valid points...too few worth mentioning though. Anyone who thought Mac was going to float along on the roster the whole season obviously did not understand the nature of the contract he signed, along with Downey. I will agree that we miss Drake's presence on the ice...he made every player of every opposing team not only look for the puck but also him. Players like that are few and far between...neither Mac nor Downey are that player Furthermore the grit slappies or fight mongers or toughness turds whatever you call them will never be satisfied until we get the reincarnation of Probert and Kocur...and how many championships did we win with them? guess what...aint gonna happen while kenny is running the team...I would take trophies and championships over arbitrarily defined "toughness" any day. brutus

Actually Hossa (careeerwise) produces more that twice the output of Franzen per game...thus a doubling of the salary of Franzen, in my opinion, is still worth it...not to mention Hossa is certianly not a defensive liability...not sure what else you count as "contribution to the team" but I think offense and defense sum it up pretty nicely...unless you mean "contribution to the team" by bringing donuts, and in that case I have no information for you, and you may very well be correct, he might not bring donuts. ...therefore...if you cant see the benefits then...I do not know what to tell you but snarky comments do not further your cause. Also to those who think Hossa somehow slips during the playoffs his pts/gm only goes down .1 or so in the playoffs. Much better than many players. brutus

Damn! As much as I do not like you personally and feel like you are an....well better left unsaid...I must agree with you on this...feels like am I am agreeing with satan...I hate myself now Anyone who would take Franzen over Hossa is delusional, hell I would give up Franzen, Sammy, Lilja, and Hudler to keep Hossa. There are plenty of young guys coming up or that will be available to fill those roles. Giving the option of having a 3rd superstar forward on the team?!?!?...how many teams have the posibility if having 3 of (arguably) the top 20-25 forwards in the game...let alone the best defense...not many I can assure you. brutus

pray tell what are these theories...or are they just full of s?

HOW DARE YOU!! you SOB.... HOW DARE YOU bring rational and logical ideas and thought process into the "grit" discussion! I mean for real...what sort of asshat fails to see Mike's fundamental flaw and how it cost us our championship...oh wait nevermind about that but I mean look at how often fighting changed the tempo and complexion of our games last year...oh um yeah nevermind about that..look at how many of our top guys were injured because we didnt have an enforcer...er..um well...nevermind basically from what I have seen the grit slappies are insatiable with their desire for as they describe it "toughness"; clearly a word, term phrase they mistake for being able to fight... fighting is entertaining to watch but I dont feel we need to sacrifice skill for fighting and until we have the opportunity for a player with both I would prefer the former well over the latter...and clearly Babs, holland and Co. feel the same way. so if you disagree...suck IT! brutus

he closed the restaurant in Chicago when, a couple of years after he came here, business declined to the point of unsustainabilty and people were taunting, being rude and behaving like the asshats chicagoans are to his parents and family...no way in hell he goes back to the whiney er um windy city brutus

You're not making a very good case for yourself in the idiot department...see how I did that...I took your mistake and used it to exemplify the correct manner to use the homophone. Homophone is funny because the other guy said you have a boner for a dude...snicker...lol...hehe brutus

Hey Chris nice to see you can use dictionary.com...however not to burst your savvy internet research bubble but you seemed to focus on the wrong word in your searching...'connotations' to be specific...as is plainly evidenced by previous posters in this thread, there is a common association that is missed in the bare dictionary.com definition of the phrase 'hired gun' and that is that it is generally associated with a short duration. Let’s have some fun and look at your specific points attempting to refute my argument: Point 1. We will call it the professional killer argument. Your assertion is that a professional killer assumes a role that would be considered by the average person as taking or requiring a long duration. I think not! Point 2. We will call it fight or protect. Again, I do not view this as an argument indication a lengthy duration of time. I would view this as a short term assignment Point 3. We will call it power for others. Once the power has been obtained does the person in power need the presence of the 'hired gun' to maintain power...clearly not or the definition would include maintaining power as opposed to just obtaining power...again I think you miss on this one too. Point 4. We will call it the specialist argument. This is perhaps the only definition from dictionary.com where you may be able to find some legs to stand on...but I would say the part about resolving particularly specific complex problems renders in to the same interpretation. The duration of time service is required to perform the activity of 'hired gun' is certainly tilted for the shorter duration of time than the longer. When you juxtapose these against the average term of service of a typical NHL player I believe you will find it is still inappropriate to call Shanahan a 'hired gun'. brutus
-
it may not be a big deal but it is an incorrect statement. The term 'hired gun' holds connotations of someone coming in for a short term and leaving to do the same thing somewhere else...it is simply factually incorrect to label Shanahan's time with Detroit as a 'hired gun'...no big deal...perhaps you are too lazy to realize your error, but that does not make it a correct assessment. brutus ps. like another poster before I was so glad to find that this was not a bring Shanny back thread....soooooo glad!

I would take either Fedorov or Bertuzzi back in a heartbeat...both have the ability to be game changers. Fedorov never looked good in any color but red and white in my opinion. For those who still hold a grudge against him leaving puhleaze....he had valid reasons. Maybe they did'nt pan out like he had hoped but he had to try...plus look at how he was in the end of the season with washington...he and ovechkin made a very dangerous tandem... Bertuzzi...well...with his injury issues it is always a risk...one I would be willing to take. brutus

Howards numbers in GR have kinda sucked...not major suckage but certianly not the kind of numbers that indicate a futre rockstar...I think this is a great move...good price and maybe motivate howard. and if howard washes out then ty can be a solid backup brutus
