Saw this little paragraph under Nyquist this morning in my ESPN Fantasy league. I think it about sums up what he's done for us during this playoff race. Nyquist scored both of Detroit's goals and went plus-2 during Tuesday's 4-2 loss in Columbus. Spin: He's got goals in six consecutive games now, with a total of nine tallies in that span as well as an assist and a plus-6 rating. The Wings have scored a grand total of 17 goals in their last six games, which means Nyquist's accounted for more than half their offense in that span. He's not a star in the making -- he's a star.

The fact is had Smith not made contact with the player skating in the net would not have been dislodged and the puck still goes in for a goal. To me it appeared watching it last night that the contact was pretty minor and Smith made an attempt to move out of the way, but the net doesn't go anywhere if his momentum isn't driving the other player in that direction. In the moment I was annoyed with it, thought the call was wrong, and I still don't agree with it 100% but I understand why it was called the way it was after watching the replay multiple times. More importantly, it's done and over with, it's not getting overturned at this point and the call stands. Nothing changes that fact. People are blaming Smith because it partially is his fault, but take him out of the equation, people are still pissed at Smith for not sticking to and covering his man as the goal is scored anyway. It's a lose lose situation for a defender. I'm more irritated with Howard's rebound control lately.

I would entertaining trying the top two lines like this Franzen - Legwand - Nyquist Tatar - Sheahan - Alfredsson It's worth a shot, at least try it for a period and see how it goes. Split up the energy guys with some of the vets and see how they work together. It can't hurt. Maybe toss Helm into that mix also, he wasn't bad tonight.

I absolutely see where you are coming from, and with a few more guys in the lineup i'd say definitely time for a healthy scratch wake up call. He's as streaky as they come, hes on a very cold one after a very hot one. We know he's capable of being a difference maker and a game changer, but that's not the Franzen we are getting right now. We need that Franzen right now. Options are minimal, otherwise he would get a mini-vacation i'm sure.

For me, at this point, I ask for who? Tootoo isn't going to play apparently so he's out of the picture. So it's pretty much Ferraro or Emmerton over Franzen. I keep Franzen in over those two. With a healthier lineup, I think a message sending bench move is appropriate. Right now it isn't.

If he was anticipated to meet expectations immediately upon call-up he would have been here much earlier. He's young, he's developing, he isn't NHL ready. He came in just to fill in for injuries, it was his first ever NHL game and he was probably a nervous wreck. I don't expect anything out of him right now.

Call me a homer but I see Smith bumping him and then making an effort to skate around him and not continue to shove him into the net. He was covering and sticking with his man, it was Atkinson's momentum that knocked it off I think it would have happened anyway without Smith's help.

Not making excuses for Mule, but at least be thankful he went on his tear right after Olympics and Nyquist went on a tear right after Franzen cooled off. Both guys playing like they did when they did is making a big difference in this playoff race right now.

Now that I know Sputman has photoshop skills i'm gonna start hounding him to sign up and make a few GDTs next season.
