Considering this game is over and finished with and the medal rounds begin in a few hours, i'm gonna lock this one up and reopen "The Official 2014 Olympic Hockey Thread" for further discussion as the medals get handed out this weekend.

Okay, do we feel better? Got a lot of it out of your systems, shake it off, take a deep breath and remember when this is all said and done what team we ALL root for. This hasn't gotten out of hand yet but it's approaching that line and i'm just going to make a friendly post here to say remain civil, after Sunday we are all friends again. 4-5 pages of justifying how a fan should act after a win is plenty, points have been exhausted, and we can return back to pleasant conversation about this game. And yes, I smother my pancakes and waffles with syrup. I am not from Canada. Your "bacon" unfortunately is a lie and misleading. That is all, carry on.

It was a good game, lot of pressure and excitement. I'm not too sure how interested i'll be in watching the Bronze game but likely will watch the game for gold and hope Sweden pulls through. I think Canada's severe lack of offensive production will inevitably bite them back in the long run and Sweden brings home gold. Canada gets their chances but can't put the puck in the net, 3 goals combined in the last two games and one of those teams being Latvia is concerning. I give them praise for moving on but they need to find a way to score goals if they plan on winning it all.

Goes to show that stats aren't everything. Shots 28 to 22, scoring chances 15 to 14. No part of that tells the story of how the game has panned out so far, Canada in the USA zone for a significant length of time and controlling the game as a whole overall. It feels like Canada has doubled up on everything so far from the pace of things. 3rd period on, come on boys get a goal here or it's a battle for bronze.

In Quick we trust.. this game could be a bit more lopsided right now.

Not the best PP effort i've seen...

Good luck to both sides, and remember, a lot of us are Americans, and there are quite a few Canadians here as well, but in the long run we are all Red Wings fans. Be mindful of that and respectful to each other as such, once this is all said and done we all pull for the same team and all still have to get along with each other (for the most part). Mods will be monitoring this thread as the game goes on, and still maintain that crossing the line from sportsmanship and friendly banter to viciousness and personal attacks will lead to warnings and/or suspensions. Let's keep this a fun event for everyone here, thanks.

No, I disliked him in New York and dislike him equally in Vancouver. Over opinionated coaches that stir the pot don't interest me. The person below me has stunned someone by never seeing a particularly popular movie.

I remember when the Clarkson fad was big around here, a lot of people were angry when we didn't get him. I was against this from the get go and i'm really glad it didn't happen, turned out to be one of the biggest busts and worst contracts handed out during last offseason's market.

Maybe Chelios will re-sign for another 2-3 years if that much cap opens. We could always give a call to Kozlov and Modano to see what they are up to also.

Lines are in anticipation of Pav returning, it will be known after morning skate if he will indeed play in this game. If he does, I gotta say I personally love the look of those top 3 lines, and our boys are finally returning to full strength. LETS BEAT FLORIDA THIS TIME! They have had our number this season for whatever reason, there is no way we drop another one to them. Wings take it 5-3. GO WINGS!!

I don't see any reason why the USA can't defeat Slovenia. it is hockey after all, so who knows but I anticipate a decisive victory. As much as I love the Wings and the fact that they are primarily on the Swedish roster, the patriot in me can't help but pull for the United States in this competition. It's been a great tournament so far, looking forward to seeing how it develops. -

Sherlock - PBS's Masterpiece Mystery!

Yeah I mean the show is brilliant, it really is. The wait between season 2 and 3 was very painful, and we still didn't get a straight answer about how the conclusion of season 2 was pulled off... I also like the fact that episodes are 90 minutes so each is like a movie because of the quality of story and acting, you forget you are watching a television program, it's just that good. I just want more Sherlock over a shorter span of time. -
NHL players will not participate in 2018 Olympics (Mod Post #99)
MabusIncarnate replied to DatsyukianDekes's topic in General
This has been stated numerous times in different Olympic threads lately, and I will repeat what the other Mods have stated in this thread as well. Keep threads on topic, and keep political discussion out of them. No politics. Politics and political discussion of any form is prohibited. Keep it about hockey, keep it about the NHL, and do not derail it further. Thanks. -
Sherlock - PBS's Masterpiece Mystery!

Three episodes only is a bit of a tease, I wish they would extend it to 6 at least. This season was a bit different, had some unique twists and I enjoyed it as much as any previous but I am always left wanting more by the end of it and don't feel entirely fulfilled. -
Good for them, take some time off, get a tan, and don't drink the water. As far as where they are or where they might be staying, I have no idea and i'm not entirely sure if that's something they would disclose. I've never been there myself. This reminded me of a old photoshop I made a while back, dug it up for the occasion. Not any of the guys above but still reasonably humorous.

In my opinion it loses a tremendous amount of entertainment value overall but I can understand why they are pulling out. 2014 may be a historical last year with NHL players being involved, enjoy it while it's here because who knows when it might happen again. -

I'm a late nighter, and I was up last night watching the Sweden vs Japan women's game. I gotta say, comparatively speaking and considering the last time the Japan women competed and were outscored 45-2 in the games, they were reasonably impressive last night. The final score was 1-0 which is by no means a blowout. Sweden played a bit better and controlled a lot of the game, but Japan stuck right with them for most of it and it was a relatively entertaining 3rd period. The fact that I was watching Sweden vs Japan women's hockey also speaks volumes about how eager I am for Olympic hockey this year. I'm pretty excited for the men's events to begin. -

Its the opposite during modern hockey, how excellent Howard was last game is already a distant memory and it's back to bashing. The harsh life of being a goalie on fan forums. -

Everything in general, the frustration of the fans, the tone of the forums lately, and the players not involved getting a break. Howard likely won't be playing much either. As much as I love the NHL and the Wings I welcome the break to watch a different kind of hockey for a couple of weeks. -

Tough break. Bring on the Olympics, maybe the time off will do some good. -
Nope, but i'm hearing mixed reviews. I'm not big on the pay-per-month subscription types of games like WOW so it's likely one i'm not going to get into myself. I found a pretty excellent alternative for those of you who have played and beaten Skyrim inside and out.. it's called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It plays more like Fable as a 3rd person action RPG but has the depth and massive scale of Skyrim. The game is enormous, there are countless amounts of things to do, it has sagecraft, alchemy, blacksmithing, and just about everything else Skyrim has to offer. I am currently 30 hours into the game as I picked it up for $10 a week ago, and I have only seen 1 of 5 regions of the game and feels like i've barely scratched the surface. For anyone looking for another tremendously sized RPG to get into it I can't recommend it enough, I am personally loving the game and not sure how I didn't get into it earlier. Downsides are the storyline is a bit weak, there is repetitiveness in quests (as with most if not all RPGs) and it isn't nearly on an epic of a scale as Skyrim. With that said, it's everything I always wished Fable would have been and it's quickly becoming a console favorite of mine. Give it a look.
